Excellent uses of music in movie scenes

  1. The title is pretty self explanatory. What are your favorite uses of music in movie scenes?

    I have three.

Spoiler alert to those who haven't seen it. But yeah, this is oddly beautiful.

Brian Eno's The Big Ship in The End of The Tour

I can't find a clip of the ending on YouTube, but this song goes well with the image of David Foster Wallace dancing in the church and is probably the last moment in theaters to make me cry.

    Another recent one
Starman by David Bowie in The Martian

    Self explanatory.
  2. The only reason why I saw the Scott Pilgrim movie was because Beck did the Music for it.

While it did not sound like typical Beck-fare (which I would've been disappointed by had I not fallen in love with the film), it awakened a craving for super lo-fi sounding stuff.

  3. Side note; I had no idea a Liars song was used in 50/50
  4. There's probably millions of films that have excellent control over the music they choose in each scene, but the director that pops to mind for me is Xavier Dolan. He seems to know exactly what he's doing with his music choice and it always makes the scene much more effective.

Here's one from Laurence Anyways, using Fever Ray's 'If I Had a Heart'

And another one, using Moderat's 'A New Error'

  5. I think Umbrella Academy does thus very well. I watched only first season yet, but the soundtrack is just…great!

My one true aspiration in life is to make it into the quote gen.
