Yo.
Spoiler
“It seems that you aren’t going to obey to my rule.” Sappo suddenly intervened. “Very well, then. You shall feel my wrath!” the giant frog placed his arms above his head.
“Brisk Breath!”
Before Sappo could do anything else, Anolk rapidly unsheathed his sword and unleashed a blade of air in his enemy’s direction. Sappo put his arm in front of his face in a protective fashion, but when he opened his eyes after the assault, Shirlu and Derlassia were nowhere to be found.
“Where is she…? WHERE IS SHE?!”
“Somewhere lost in the ocean.” was Anolk’s reply. He pointed his blade at Sappo. “My name is Anolk of the Wind, and I challenge you to a duel, Sappo! If you lose, you’ll have to renounce to your task! But if you win, I can tell you where the one called Derlassia has been put!”
“…Very well, little warrior. Sappo would have trouble finding her now, anyway. Prepare yourself!”
Anolk sheathed his blade, letting his hand hover around the scabbard. A tiny grin appeared on his face as a tense silence fell on the battlefield. Anolk closed his eyes as he gripped the handle of his weapon, remembering Lady Smiteve’s words.
“Now, let us review the properties of this Flytta, my boy. It is a dagger enchanted with the forging magic that we Bukkies use. Remember that the longer your Flytta is sheathed in one of the scabbards, the more efficient the weapon shape it takes will be. If any of them breaks, you will have to revert the Flytta back to its original form and sheathe it until the broken shape is repaired. And, as you’ve discovered yourself, you can use any magical power source to help you in using the Flytta. Which is why, when you get out of here, you MUST get your precious Ring back. It is best if, while the Flytta is recharging, you have a backup weapon to use in case of trouble.”
A gentle light shone discreetly behind Anolk. The new, red-colored jacket the Bukkies had made for him had been upgraded with a special spot in the back where he could insert the Wind Ring in, and have it in direct contact with his skin. No matter how much Anolk moved, it wouldn’t come off. So, Anolk confidently opened his eyes once more, locking them on his new opponent. It was time to put his Flytta to test again – and this time, using every shape he had in his arsenal. It was always strange.
How dreams never seemed to last, no matter how long they were.
How their source remained unclear, and their purpose, uncertain.
Yet no matter how peculiar they became, it didn’t seem possible to do away with them.
Comfortably leaning against the rail of her ship’s starboard side, Valcoo had, of course, heard the familiar sound of her Gourmet Blade’s wings long before they had reached the ship. By the time Shirlu stepped back inside, holding a new figure in his hands, Valcoo kept her promise and began laughing at the fact that Shirlu had indeed gotten wet.
“Hate you too, Luna.” Shirlu exclaimed, giggling along, ignoring the drops of water falling from his hair and clothes. “But, I suppose I kinda deserve it for not being careful enough.”
“Nah, you’re fine, Gourmet, I’m just being a jerk.” Valcoo admitted, bowing ironically. “Now then, who’s that scrawny kitty?” she added, approaching Shirlu as he gently allowed Derlassia to put her feet on the ground. She gazed up, and her milky white fur suddenly seemed to take a grayish shade as she sustained Valcoo’s analytic glare, trembling shyly.
“No, that was a loaded sentence.” Valcoo continued, looking down at her. “I am talking to you, and am waiting for an answer.”
“U-Um… My name is… Derlassia. That’s all I remember.” Derlassia breathed, visibly intimidated.Valcoo grinned. She couldn’t help but enjoy the difference in height, and the difference in behavior. It wasn’t often she could strike fear into others – not because of rumors, but because she was being herself. “Memory loss, hmm? That’s a shame, kid. About as shameful as that stupidly long name, but I suppose mine’s not too far behind.”
“I’m… I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be! You probably didn’t choose it. Another question, though. Why exactly are you here, instead of the other kid I was waiting for?”
“You mean… Anolk?”
Valcoo rolled her eyes. “Who else?”
“He… He stayed behind, on the ship.” Derlassia revealed. “To protect me.”
Valcoo frowned. “Gourmet, you may start speaking.”
“Sir-ranked Familiar.” Shirlu immediately specified. “Not sure why, but it had trapped this little angel inside a water-based curse. Anolk’s currently fighting it, and the idea is to move as far as possible while he does.”Havalpo chose this moment to approach the crew, a small smile on the face. “In case he loses, right?” he inquired, before gazing at Valcoo. “Are we following that plan, Captain?”
“You are the one guy here who knows very well that Anolk isn’t going to lose.” Valcoo replied with a nonchalant shrug. “As for you,” she continued, pointing at Shirlu, “you should be strangled on the spot for letting him fight a freakin’ Sir-Ranked all on his own...”
“Hah! Told him you’d say that.” Shirlu commented.
“...But I assume that’s what he wanted. He’s strong enough to do it, anyhow, so, we’ll just casually get closer to that ship. Not too much, though. Havalpo, raise the defenses, will ya? Wouldn’t wanna be a target.”
“Aye, Captain!” Havalpo exclaimed before running back to his position.
“Gourmet, introduce the place to our new guest, and deal with the memory trauma stuff – you know I’m not very qualified for these things. If you’re looking for me, I’ll be in my cabin. You’re dead if you don’t knock.”
“Got it!”
Valcoo performed a graceful turnabout and walked back towards her personal lair, closing the door behind her. As per usual, she hanged her wing-shaped blue cloak on her door and removed her boots, sighing with relief as her feet touched the cold ground below. She pulled out a pulsating red orb from her holster and frowned as it emitted a brief but vibrant light.
“...What do you mean, another one?” Valcoo inquired, staring at the object.
