My Cup of Tea

I really like poems that are conversational and easy to read. I don't always go for emotion in poetry, just beauty and sometimes that makes my cup of tea not suitable for others. My poetry reflects that. I try to create an interesting vivid picture, and express my idea as clearly as I can for the reader of the poem.
I like poems that can keep my attention and have an open conversational dialogue with the reader. One of my famous people idols is Billy Collins for just that reason.

Things to Avoid Sticking in My Tea

I don't like it when poems try to confuse people, or try to make puzzles out of themselves. For me, it's kind of like giving someone a jigsaw for Christmas, and taking out the last piece. Poetry is already enough of a puzzle. Our goal, in my opinion, is to make it clear.
I am not currently in a romance novel, so reading super romantic poems is really not my thing. All of the super romanticist poems feel overdone to me, so I have a hard time ignoring that. That being said, if you have a more realistic romance poem, I'm more than happy to take a look.

Extraneous Lines

While I accept stylistic choice as a reason for avoiding punctuation in poetry, I will have you explain your choice in a more in-depth manner than 'because I felt like it.' I enjoy lengthy conversations about stylistic choice regarding punctuation in poetry, so it is a hard to avoid this conversation with me.
I also enjoy lengthy discussions about other poetic devices, and structured poetry.
I am not a published poet, but I am working on it.
I am in college. I have received my associates.
I have studied poetry for around six years.

What I have Apprentices Do

I'm very open with my apprentices and I like having them do things like write new poems from a different perspective on an old poem, write structured poetry, write things they avoid, and playing with poetry on Pirate Pads.
One of my favorite pass times is to write poems back and forth with people from YWS on Pirate Pads, so we're likely to jump on Pirate Pads/WordFeed Pads/Titan Pads at some point in time together if you are my apprentice.

I am currently most available after 3, Eastern Time.
There are other ways to contact me aside from just YWS and those will be provided once a mentoring is set up.

I am currently willing to take on two apprentices.

A little about me...

I love fruits, and I love to goof around and have fun and discuss poetry and literature over coffee and biscuits, and to find something that rhymes with batman that isn't "fatman".

I'll be a mentor, but I'll also be a friend. Poetry gets personal, and getting to know one another can help us grow as writers and as people too.

I've written lots of poems and hosted many poetry workshops for YWS. For me poetry is about inspiring your reader and burning a hole in their hearts. It's about a love of language, and expression through layers in language, and that's what I will focus on.

Mentoring

So many people approach poetry with fear, sticking their toe in the water and afraid to take it further, but I want to be able to grab them by the hand and cannon ball together to create a big splash.

As a mentor, I'll be happy to read and review your poems, but also offer a hand to help develop your skills and your own style further. I'll be happy to teach, and also happy to learn from you. Whether you would like to co-write, or learn about different aspects of poetry, or share each other's lists of favorite contemporary poems to read/prowl around at our leisure -- I'll be here 11PM GMT, 7PM EST.

Very pleased to be a mentor, and I'm pretty open to anything. As Hannah quite aptly said: "I have no illusions about being some kind of expert." I do have an extensive vocabulary however. She and I differ.

Dutifully Reporting Stuffs About My Revieworship (See how that kinda says "review" and "worship"? That's fun.):

I'm a rather technical reviewer; I don't usually tell you whether you are "telling a story" well. I just like nice sounds.
On that note, I like rhyme, alliteration, lyrical...
But I sometimes balk at free-verse. Sometimes I just don't find the flow like I do with more traditional poetry. (I'll still try free-verse; Aley has been trying to break me of my rhyme pattern. -.- It's hard.)
I'm long-winded. (Can you tell? Maybe not...)

I typically write the same sorts of poetry I detail above, with the exception that I am always trying to escape my comfort zone.

I'm pretty much always on YWS, even when I'm not. This web browser tab never closes. That may not always be true, but it's July where I am, and nothing else happens.

Uh, I'll skip that bio I guess?

Hey! I'm Dreamy, Dream, Or DreamWriter and any other nickname you can come up with that I like.

Here's the deal: I am someone who likes poetry to the bone. My first real peice of work was poetry. I love poetry, but I know there would be no poetry without the writer. So as your mentor I would make sure to try to help you bring the poetry out of you.

I hope that didn't sound too weird. You see, what I mean is, I want the poetry to flow, fresh out of your mind. Everyone who really has a passion for writing could write poetry, it's just based on the way it is written.

Like I had said before:

Poetry is almost like a song in a sense, if it is not read right/depicted right, it could be unpleasant, but just changed a bit, with a different tune, it would be wonderful.

That and, sometimes the best poetry comes out raw. So don't be afraid to just pour your heart out, and then we can work on the editing.

My review specs: This is actually on my review page. If anyone would like to get reviews from me I'd like it if it could be posted there. (Unless of course you're my mentee.)

1. I'm specific. - If you want to know exactly what you could possibly do to change your poetry/work, I will let you know. I often give a few examples along with my critique. And if I don't have sufficient examples, I often don't give that critique, or say so.

2. Explanations. - I will always let you know why I am saying something, or offering some advice. I do this, because (here I go explaining) I don't like it when people give me reviews and don't be specific, or tell me why they expect something to change. So in order to make sure you know exactly why I am giving an advice, I'll explain. If my explanation is not adequate you may PM me and let me know.

3. I am usually emotionally connected to a work. - I consider this a strength because then, if I like it I will try to (if I can) go in depth and explain why I do. Hopefully that will allow you to know what you do good, and it can even help you to know what you should keep doing.

Random things about me:

I love cookies and the color yellow.

I am both a hyper extrovert and a timid introvert.

I like to get to know the artist before I judge the painting.

I dance in the rain whenever I feel like it.

I am someone who eats popcorn and chocolate.

It's good!

What I love about poetry is how it speaks, so I like to "speak".

And that's all I can think of at the moment!

When am I on?

Much like Skorlir above me I am pretty much always on YWS, haha, especially because I'm in summer, but starting next week I think it'll be leaning more towards the evening time (GMT+8) or Hong Kong time. Which would be easy to track if you're Eastern, for I am exactly 12 hours ahead of you. So, when it's 11pm here it's 11am for you guys.

I have been writing poetry for just over a year and a half. I tend to write the more simple, emotional pieces, so of you write complicated poetry I am not the guy for you.
I love reading and writing poems that have a clear meaning behind them and are emotionally connected to the poet, though in saying that I don't mind reading more complicated pieces.

I write poetry as a way of expressing myself, mainly because I am terrible at talking about myself. ( The reason that this has nothing to do with the sort of person I am). For me, poetry is one of the most beautiful types of art forms, yet I hate poets who are extremely pretentious.

I never really edit my work, and the least amount of changes the better I find a poem to be. But in saying that if it has obvious grammatical mistakes that it needs to he fixed, and fast.

Mentoring and reviewing

Mentoring:
I am no expert so our relationship is going to be more like a friendship. You will help me and I will help you. This way we can be equal and it will increase the chances or bettering your poetry.

In no way am I going to force my style of poetry on you, I will work with you to better YOUR poetry. But at the same time, I will get you to experience writing in different styles. But we will always come back to writing how you want to write.

Reviewing:
I tend to review most types of poetry.
I tend to stay away from specifics in the poem. I tend to focus on the overall poem, and what could be improved as a whole.
Though I do point out certain things within the poem that will help give the poet a guide as to what needs to be improved. If there is something that I feel needs to be given attention I will point that out too.

I am on quite a bit, and am GMT +8. If I am going on a holiday or simply can't be on far a while I will let you know.

I am currently free with no apprentice, so feel free to PM.

Hello Lovelies!

My name is Victoria and I have been writing as long as I can remember. I began writing poetry several years ago, and I haven't stopped. My poetry crosses genres. I write everything from romance to science fiction. When it comes to poetry I am very flexible, but I find a lot of my work having a dramatic feel. A lot of my work is personal and metaphoric.

I love to work with other writers and be a help in any way I can. Whoever my apprentice may be I will look at them as a friend. As many have said before me I am no expert, I just love to write. My apprentice can expect not only to work on poetry but to actually be friends.
When helping my new friend I will use many methods to assist them in their writing. Expect to use titanpads or a similar site frequently. I will ask for a new poem once a week, this requirement will be better explained if you chose to be my apprentice. Expect to be given unique assignments such as writing in the style of a famous poet or rewriting a piece in a new way. Most of my poetry is influenced by music so a common request will be a piece that is written as a companion to a song. I will be available to review your works and to assist you in writing new works.

I am on daily for several hours and am EDT. There are several ways to contact me and those will be discussed with my new friend. My time will slightly decrease when school begins but I will still be reachable.
