So, the title is a working title. This is a new story idea I came up with a month or two ago. I already have around 5k written on it and I'm looking forward to
I'm really busy this month and probably won't have a lot of time to write, so I'm keeping my goal low again, like I did when I participated a couple years ago.
Goal: 15,500 words (500 words a day)
Already Have Written: 5k
Story Synopsis:
(Sorry this is kinda long. I haven't refined it yet.)
On Malia Hayes' sixteenth birthday, she blows out her birthday candles and wishes for one thing--the same thing she wishes for every year. She wishes to exist.
Malia is flesh and blood, no different from her parents or brother, but in the eyes of the government, she was never born. And if they ever found out she was alive... It would be the end of everything.
The world is dead. Toxic. Covered in a thick acid fog that kills everything in its path. And it would have killed off the human race, if it weren't for the shining dome city of Alridge where the remaining two million humans live under this dome together, not just surviving, but thriving. Advanced technology, frequent scientific discoveries, the best of education and the highest of standards. But for this way of living to sustain, there must be laws. Strict laws. Like only being allowed to have one child.
Malia is a second child. Or, as the government would call her, a CIB. Child illegally born. She's never left her house, never seen the dome city in which she lives. But everything changes when a patrol does a surprise sweep for CIBs and finds Malia, along with four others who had also been hidden away their entire lives.
The government does one of two things with CIBs. Terminates them, or enslaves them. After all, they can do whatever they want with you when you don't exist. But Malia's not about to let that happen, especially not with the knowledge that the government has been lying, and that the acid fog might be nothing but a lie.
With time running out, Malia must escape and convince the others like her that their best chance of survival is outside the dome. And if they're the only ones with the knowledge of the fog being a lie, then it's they're responsibility to pull back the curtain on the Alridgian government and show everyone that the CIBs weren't the only prisoners under the dome.
