Camp 2016: A Flight of Dragons

  1. so I kinda have a thread for this in Writers Corner but that's where all the official-looking stuff goes if you like official-looking stuff or whatever.

    most of what I post here will probably be very casual "ARGH"s and "AUGH"s and "UGH"s as I work through this novel in the month of April. since I'm also doing NaPo, my word goal will be set somewhere between 20k and 30k :3 if I land somewhere in the ballpark of 25k, I'm golden.

    I will also probably post snippets! because I scrapped the entire thing (15k of writing is dead and rotting in the original Scrivener file), I'm starting from the beginning and I'm going to make it my goal to write enough to give you guys at least one snippet every day!

    if I don't post a snippet a day, feel free to punish me by giving me a prompt or some sort of challenge to include the next day! also ask questions and stuff, but you can do that in the official thread, too.

    //end casual post
  2. so because I'm on a nice calm weekend, I'm going to try to get about 2k words per day and hopefully get 6k into my 20k goal on the Camp NaNo site. if I manage this, I'll make that entire progress totally worthless and change my stated goal to 25k (but I'll also count the 2k that I wrote in the last week of March because I'm a cheater).

    have the first of many snippets!

    “Finally.” Erakh was sprawled out on a cushion in the long windowsill, like he always was on sunny days, letting the light soak into his skin and clothes like perfume. He didn’t even bother sitting up when she walked in, just waved his hand towards the bottle of dark wine on the table. “I was starting to think my horse ate you.”
  3. I only got 500 words today because I'm suffering a pretty bad depressive episode.

    Snippet:

    “Firuz kept me company.”

    “Of course she did.” Rouzan barked a laugh, letting her arm unfold behind Katin’s head to hold her a little closer.

    For all that Firuz was the youngest, Katin could have sworn some days that she was the smallest—with how much the other girls liked to hold her and stroke her hair, she supposed they either saw her as a handsome prince of legend or some sort of little cat. She wasn’t holding her breath on inheriting a royal title.
  4. got about 500 words today, too. I'm glad I got that head start.

    «Nervous?» he signed with a grin. His hands didn’t waver for a second, and he hadn’t even reached for the first glass of wine yet. It must have been a good morning for him, but then, he wasn’t put to work the second he woke up.

    «A little.» A smile tugged at the corners of her mouth, but she shoved it away in favor of a blank face that wouldn’t get her lectured by the lady. She was good at making her signing look like casual movements, but it was still hard to control her expressions—a dead giveaway that she wasn’t just fidgeting with something.

I want to see people turn and writhe; make them feel things they cannot see and sometimes do not know.
