Well, now that series nine is almost over, let's talk about it! What are your theories on the Hybrid, Gallifrey, or Ashilder? What were your favorite episodes? How heartbreaking was a certain episode that shall not be named?
Obviously, spoilers will abound. I'd rather we didn't have to use spoiler tags, so if you aren't caught up and you want to stay unspoiled you'll probably want to stay off this thread until you are.

And, just to kick off the discussion, I thought I'd post some of my own thoughts.
Overall, I've really enjoyed this season, probably even more than Season 8, though I have wished Clara had more to do. The only one I didn't really like was Sleep No More, mainly because the monsters were ridiculous. However, I don't think this era of Doctor Who is ever going to be my favorite - it's just not quite my style in tone and theme. I think I'll always love 11's fairy-tale era more. Regardless, it's still fun and awesome.
Story rankings are rather loose, but here we go:
1. The Zygon Invasion/The Zygon Inversion
2. Face the Raven
3. Heaven Sent/Hell Bent (likely to change as I've only seen Heaven Sent so far)
4. The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar
5. The Girl Who Died/The Woman Who Lived
6. Under the Lake/Before the Flood
7. Sleep No More
I can't praise Zygon Invasion/Inversion enough. I think it's one of my new favorites. I love how it built on the 50th and the Osgood stuff and the Doctor's speech were all just awesome. The acting was amazing too - I kept forgetting that Clara and the rebel leader were being played by the same person. I think they did a pretty good job too of making it clear that this wasn't all the Zygons who felt this way - most of them were happy to let Zygons be Zygons. (Sorry, I had to. xD)
What I'm less enthused by is Ashilder. I don't know why, but I haven't warmed up to her as a character at all, and I find the technology that made her immortal a bit gimmicky. I mean, the exploration of what happens when you have immortality is pretty realistic/logical, and she's a strong character, just not one I like particularly much as a person. Strangely enough, I'm much more willing to forgive her for the stunt she pulled in Face the Raven than what she did in The Woman Who Lived. Probably because in that case her motives weren't entirely selfish. -
Ahhh, rankings always frustrate me, since my opinions change so much
I think Ashildr is really interesting. Mostly because every time we see her, we've skipped a few hundred years of her development. In The Woman Who Lived, she said she was the Doctor's friend. In Face the Raven, she may not even have remembered any of that. I'm not sure if I like her as a person, but I certainly appreciate her as a character.
I've loved Clara's development this season. Last season, we saw her trying desperately to keep the two sides of her life under control. This season, we see the consequences of her becoming less attached to her life of Earth; more Doctor-like. Her decision to take the shade from Rigsy was kind and compassionate, and actually clever given what she knew, but it was also impulsive and reckless. She made a gamble with her life and she lost. However, I feel that her story isn't entirely over yet. Guess I'll have to wait till Hell Bent to find out.
I agree with you on Sleep No More, Books. I didn't really understand what was going on, and didn't really feel like rewatching to find out. That last shot of the guy's head falling apart was really creepy, though.
Heaven Sent was just amazing. Would have been even more amazing if the BBC hadn't decided to spoil their own cliffhanger. -_- Rewatching it is a lot of fun, if you get the chance. You end up looking at it in a different light. Suddenly, the Doctor talking to that skull becomes a lot more disturbing. And when he says he will "never ever stop" looking for the Time Lords, you realize that he wasn't exaggerating. What's really sad is that the Doctor isn't given time to move on from Face the Raven. Every time his new self arrives, the grief is still fresh. :'(
It's a little weird how late in the year this season aired. Like, we're already getting promos for the Christmas episode, and the finale hasn't even aired yet! XD Any opinions on River's return? -

It was one of those mind twist episodes and I think it really worked out this time round. My thoughts probably aren't making sense seeing as I am fangirling a lot. But I like that Clara is around for a bit longer and everything. Although we do know she will be out for good, she can stick around a bit longer. She's grown on me.
I sorta like that for once, The Doctor is the one who doesn't remember... -
For a second, I had thought that Clara was going to turn into Donna 2.0 but I guess not! It was still an amazing conclusion, and I absolutely love the new sonic! I can't wait untill christmas!

Oh. Oh my. I just finished watching Hell Bent. Not sure what the episode was but the scenes between the Doctor and Clara were lovely, and very heartbreaking. Can we please have a Clashildr spinoff now? And the Christmas special looks hilarious

OH and Clara's theme on the guitar was a little bit meta but a nice touch nonetheless. I've always wanted characters to be able to hear their own incidental music so there I go

He did exactly what I wanted! I posted on another forum the other day that I was hoping he would basically depose Rasillon and the other war mongrals and "fix" Gallifrey and he did! And it was epic!
It does kind of feel unfinished, though, but I really like the parallel of him stealing a TARDIS and running away again. And I bet Peter Capaldi was over the moon about basically being in the 1st Doctor's TARDIS.
Clara though... ;(
I wouldn't have minded if she had just died and not come back, because her death was so true to character, but I think this was very true to character as well, so I'm all right with it. If not more than a bit heartbroken. The whole scene in the diner was just so sad, especially since we all thought at first that it was either one of Clara's echos or her after she forgot him.
I'm not so keen on her going off having adventures with Ishildur - I'm just not a big fan of Ishildur and I think Clara having basically an unlimited amount of time to fly around in space before dying diminishes the effect. But it is also pretty cool.
I really want to know how that managed to be the diner Amy and Rory were in if it's also a TARDIS...
