“It’s… interesting, I guess. I mean, you have to keep doing what you do, or else Thomas falls apart. We’re basically what keeps him going.” Erin shrugs.
-
"and how did you end up with that job? what happens to you if Thomas dies?"
-
“I dunno, I just… appeared, one day. And if Thomas dies…” Erin pauses, their carefree attitude faltering. “…well, I guess we’d all die, too. According to Logan, I’d apparently be the last one to go…” She seems uncomfortable with this.
-
"How many of you are there, exactly?" Maura frowns thoughtfully.
"And.. what does the inside of Thomas' mind look like? Is it similar to reality or more fantastical?" -
“Ehh… lemme see here…” Erin thinks for a moment. “About… 17? Maybe 20? Idk, you start to loose track after a while. And the mindscape… well, it depends, I guess. Like, the mind palace, where we all live, is kinda like a regular house, but places like the imagination are definitely more fantastical.”
-
"Huh. Neat!"
"Who are you closest to there?" -
“…” A soft smile appears on Erin’s face. “…Emile. My husband. He’s not actually a side, he’s a figment of the imagination, but… god, he’s so sweet…” He blushes, seemingly happy just to think about Emile.
-
"ah so you are tied to someone. how did you meet?"
-
“Tied to him..?” Erin seems confused. “And how did we meet… well, it’s kinda sad, but long story short, the imagination split in half, Emile lost some of his friends, he managed to get to the dreamscape, where all the dreams happen, and I found him just crying there.”
-
"You live in the mind palace, get married, and are able to.. pass away. Does that mean you're alive in the way real-world people are?"
She pauses, trying to find a way to word her question. "Like- I don't know, do you need to eat and sleep? Do you get older? Were you born, or did you just pop into existence the way you are now?"
Maura smiles sheepishly. "Sorry to ask so much all at once! I'm curious." -
“Yeah, pretty much, I’m alive. I still eat and stuff. I don’t really need to sleep, since I’m pretty much the embodiment of it. And like, some of us sides age, some of us don’t. I’m one of the sides who doesn’t.” Erin shrugs. “And you’re fine. Believe me, I’m used to it from all the time I’ve spent with Emmie.” They grin.
-
"Huh. So every side is different. Are there any rules to existing in Thomas' mindscape? What do you guys do all day?"
