  1. Nyx sat in the back corner of the tavern, pulling the cape she had borrowed from Camerlin tightly around her shoulders in wait of the person she was to meet.
  2. "Hello," said the young woman who opened the door and stepped into the room. She pulled out a chair across from Nyx and took a seat. "I'm told you're who I'm supposed to meet. I'm here to interview you, so this should just cover some basic questions."

She smiled and opened her notebook.

"So. Let's get started. How about we begin by asking you your age and where you're from?"
  3. Nyx looked at her quizzically for a moment before answering, "I'm 15 and I'm from Quart Ran, Outer Realms"
  4. "Okay," the interviewer comments, taking down some notes. "And what is it like where you're from? What's the area like? What are the people like?"
  5. "Most of the people suck except for the ones that don't. The area is fairly decent I suppose I've been worse places." she shrugged and crossed her arms
  6. "So tell me about the people you actually like," the interviewer presses with interest. "And then, what about the ones you don't like? Why is that?"
  7. "I like most of the people at the Quart School. The people I don't like I don't like because they're prejudice pigs who try to hurt or kill all the people like me in Quart Ran despite the toleration laws that were passed 12 years ago"
  8. A second interviewer enters the room and swiftly seats himself next to the first. The thin, silver-haired man seems slightly out of breath, and flashes Nyx an apologetic smile. The battered-looking nametag at his breast reads "Cade".

"Apologies for my tardiness. I'll be assisting in this interview."

He sneaks a peek at the female interviewer's notes.

"Hm.. And who are 'people like you'? Why the necessity for toleration laws?"
  9. Nyx drew in an exasperated breath "I don't understand the digging into my personal life but if you must know the people I like generally refers to anyone at the Quart School for Elemental Arts I can't really afford to dislike any of them. If you wanna get more specific it would refer to Camerlin and other select members of my unit." She paused for a moment to collect her thought "The toleration laws were necessary because without them Sparks and Peculiars were being murdered left right and center. It was a sin for us to exist."
  10. "Well, this interview is for the sake of picking you apart and 'digging into your personal life'. We're finding out just what kind of person you are, Nyx. But rest assured, nothing you say here will leave this room."

The interviewer puzzles over her response, absently tapping his pen against the rim of the tabletop.

"Camerlin. Sparks. Peculiars. Your world is quite the mystery to me. Pardon my bluntness, but what exactly are you? Why would it be considered a sin for you to exist?"
  11. Nyx laughed "I am what is called in my world, my home, as a Spark. Thats the more official term though some people do call us Peculiars. Years ago we were considered magicians, wizards, weilders of magical abilities. That was before people actually learned there was no such thing as magic and that the root of our power comes from the sparks which exist at the very core of our being."
She leaned back into her chair and put both of her gloved hands on the back of her head.
"As for why its a sin for me to exist, it isn't really although some think it to be. Its odd to find people like that in the Outer Realms. Some people still consider Sparks to be dark wizards, weilders of dark magic, bearers of evil... the names they give us go on endlessly,"
  12. "That's unfortunate. But times are changing, I assume, if there is now a recognized school for the elemental arts, and laws in place to protect people like you."

"Tell me about this school, and Camerlin. How long have you been a student there?"
  13. "I've been a ward of the now headmaster since the day my parents were killed. I was three. It was the night the toleration laws were passed. Camerlin he's... my best friend. I've known him since we were five."
  14. Cade nods, musing over her words.

"So the school is all you know. Your parents are... gone, and judging by the fact you were taken in as a ward, I'd guess you have no other living relatives. Were your parents attacked for being Sparks?"
  15. "The school is all Sparks but not everyone is an orphan. I have no other living relatives. My parents were attacked for attacking Sparks, a spark i.e. me."
