Rhoswen breathed deeply, trying to block the picture of Cal's bloody corpse out of her mind. She'd been through this scenario a thousand times, she could handle any torture that was thrown at her.

A tall woman, papers in hand and half-smile on her face. "Hello, dear. Rhoswen, correct?" She sat down, giving her interviewee full attention.
-
Rhoswen stared straight ahead, unblinking.
“What’s it to you?” -
“I’m your interviewer. That’s all.”
She smiled.
“Now. How about you tell me about yourself?” -
“I don’t like anything. I don’t love anyone. There’s nothing for you to take away from me so don’t even try.”
Her snow-white skin seemed to glow in the overhead lights. -
"Hmm. Well, you seem to be misunderstanding the point of this."
She leaned back in her chair.
"I'm simply here to talk about you. No taking away anything, just talk. So, Rhowsen, where are you from?" -
“Talaq.” There was no point in lying but she wasn’t going to make it easy either.
-
"Can you tell me anything about Talaq?"
-
“It’s hot.”
Rhoswen was uncomfortable, she couldn’t read this woman like she normally could and she wasn’t sure of her intentions. She tugged on a loose curl. -
“Did you live with anyone?”
The interviewer still wore her sweet smile. -
“Not anymore.” A lump formed in her throat and she turned away.
-
"Would you want to elaborate? It's alright if you don't, dear."
The interviewer put down her pen. -
“Cal's dead.” She whispered.
-
“Oh. I’m sorry for your loss.”
