Amore Impossible (Chapters 7&8)

So, Mikko and I have been working on this, and we wouldn't want to change a thing in these chapters...

Marco is Mikko's chapter, and Drama's chapter is Anna.

Chapter 7:

Marco

“Don’t fall back, Marco.” Chieros said to me over his shoulder. It was very early on a Saturday morning, so I was not fully awake, but I managed to catch up to him. Chieros was a tall man with long legs who liked to take wide steps and walk rapidly at the same time. His black cloak and hair were flying behind him and his heels hit the school’s wooden floor rhythmically; whilst I was walking with many worries travelling through my head like, what were the Letums up to now? Had they really found out about Anna and me? I tried hoping and thinking positively- what she would always tell me to do, but the worst of thoughts kept creeping into my mind.

We arrived at the main entrance of the school, facing the pouring rain coming down on the morning. He took out his wand, nudged me to take mine too, swirled it in the air three times and said: “Portium.”

Within two seconds, my feet fell suddenly onto the marble floor of my home. 'El castillo del Rey' it's referred to as by the Letums and many other wizards. It's the famous Letums' meeting place and I could tell that's why we were there.

The Letums were holding a grand meeting and I had a feeling I wasn't called for nothing, but because they needed me to be there- must have been part of father’s ideas to keep the family name running through the history of Letums who defend the purity of wizard blood.

But I didn't want to be there. All I wanted was to be by Annalane’s side, to talk to her, to let my hand go through her hair and to kiss her softly.

Nevertheless, I didn’t show any of those emotions at home. I daren’t for there were very powerful wizards in my presence and to accidently let my facial expression give me and Annalane away would be fatal.

Mother also disapproved of me being there and strongly refused I took part in that meeting but I had to play along and stand firm to her, tell her that I had to be in that meeting room. It was an act, of course because I didn’t want to know what terrible things they would be plotting, but at the same time, I was curious to know. Could it have anything to do with Marcotts? That was a stupid question that ran through my anxious mind for I knew that was the main reason they called for meetings. Whether I liked it or not, I had to take part in that meeting to know what was going on, for Annalane’s good.

That same day, in the late afternoon, I returned to school with Chieros by the same way we ahd arrived. “Portium.” We both said and landed in the school’s wooden-floored lobby. Everything seemed exactly the same as it had always been- the never-ending wick of the candles just kept on burning and burning. They burned along with my heart that was carrying very sinister news for my loved one.

Where are you? I called for her using mental telepathy, but I got no answer. I said it over and over again, until it drove me crazy to not hear her reply. I never thought I’d say this, but when I saw her two friends walking along the corridor to the infirmary, I was relieved because they surely knew where she would be.

“Hey!” I shouted to them, taking that enemy's voice I was obliged to take when talking to them.

"What do you want del Rey?" Sebastian said, using a defensive tone.

"Where's the marcott?" Saying that hurt me terribly.

"Leave her alone, del Rey." Peter talked this time, his eyes full of hatred. If they knew...

"I'm just asking where she is. You're usually three, aren't you? The marcott-girl always protecting you." I sniggered. A day with Letums managed to bring back the old Marco.

They turned, ignoring me, though I could see that Seb really wanted to punch me. They kept on walking towards the infirmary and then it hit me: that's where she was!

As soon as the clocks struck one minute past midnight, I slid out of bed and went to see her. Nobody ever walked on the infirmary corridors after 7pm, so I knew no one would catch me. Unless, of course, the nurse or Potentintilum, who would personally check up on students.

Luckily, I managed to slither around corners without getting caught and finally made it to her bed. I didn't want to wake her. I watched her sleep- as innocent as a baby, taking little, quiet breaths. her skin was as pale as the soundless and plain walls of the infirmary surrounding us.

I leaned in, close to her face to kiss her cheeks that had lost their rosiness and whispered heartrending words of love. And I cried. My tears were in her long, golden hair and I prayed that they sent her my messages.

I love you. I love you. I love you.

Chapter 8:

Annalane

When I woke up, my back was stiff, and I felt as if I hadn't moved in several days. A face was staring down at me, his brow furrowed in worry.

"Marco!"

"Shh. Spark don't talk it's almost midnight."

"What happened? Where am I?"

"Your in the hospital wing. What happened Spark? Gorgeous, what did you do?"

The pet names were so good to hear, both of them at once. "I wasn't feeling so great, so I tried out a spell. It worked, or so I thought. But then I collapsed. Seb brought me here." I tried to sit up, but Marco pushed me back down.

"You're still weak."

"I am not!"

"Spark, look at yourself."

Looking down, I was suprised to see that I was imaciated, and my hands were pale and shaky.

"How long have I been in here?"

"Two or three days."

"Oh."

"Oh Spark. Silly girl."

I smiled and reached up, touching his cheek. "I missed you."

He grinned. "I have a suprise for you Spark."

"What?" I look up at him, my smile growing. Marco's suprises were always the nicest.

He held up to slips of paper, and I looked at them. Tickets to the masqurade ball. "Oh. We can't Marco! You know it's not possible!"

"Why Spark? Everyone will be in masks. There isn't any reason they would find us."

"But, Marco, what if?"

"Don't what if me. We come to the ball, I dance with the dashing young girl the whole time, no one knows who we are, and we get to meet in a public place for once."

Millions of reasons to say no flutter through my head. I look up, opening my mouth to tell him it's not possible, and I see the hopefullness that is shimmering across his face. He really believes that it would be okay, that nothing would happen.

"You know I can't say no too you, Marco."

He grins, and kisses my forehead. I'll see you tomorrow night then. And he is gone, with a flutter of fingers on my cheek.

I stand in front of the mirror, my hands shaking with fear. My dress, strapless sweet heart neckline, Red silk with black lace overtop, flared at the bottom. My mask, which fixes to my hair with pearl topped hair pins is black lace, covered in little velvet flowers. No one would ever suspect it was me who was hidden behind this mask. It wasn't me. The one I had told everyone I was wearing, a fluttery blue dress and white mask with fur, hung against the door. No one would know.

I walk out, the mask pinned already. I don't speak to anyone, just nod, and start walking towards the bathroom door. Only Marco knew what I was wearing. I had described my mask and dress to him in great detail. Mental telepathy would help too.

I was in the hall outside the bathroom, and walking down it, towards the great staircase. I could invision him, in a plain black mask, a black flower stuck to his robes, his dark azure eyes scanning the hall, looking for me.

Hurry up, I hear him grumble in my mind. He always did hate dressing up. For the hundreth time, I wonder why this is so important to him. And, for the hundreth time, I answer myself, that he wants at least one experince that's normal and not hidden.

I start walking down the stairs, my skirt swishing over the grey stones. I see him, over the heads of everyone else. His pale skin shining, dark hair messily shoved back.
