I am from the past

by gillibeanski2011

I AM FROM THE PAST
I am from mud
Muddy red rain boots
Rain washing away all my worries
And summer’s flowers

I am from rejoice
The first glimpse of sun for 6 months
Playing in the sprinkler naked
We don’t care

I am from church Sundays
Finely pleated dresses
And my best mary jane shoes
Driving in our Chevy to church

I am from picnics at the park
Red and white checker blanket
And egg salad sandwiches
Sweet juicy watermelon

I am from the radio
Little orphan Annie
Daddy’s politic radio show comes on
8:00 bedtime

I am from homemade dinners
Fried chicken and corn
Mommy’s chair next to mine
Daddy leads us in grace

I am from goodnight kisses
Laying in my baby quilt
The smell of daddy’s cigar tells me something is wrong
Loud, arguing voices come from their room

I am from the past
A time where mommy was all I needed
Her and my china baby doll
Riding home in the golden Chevy

I have lived through much, and now I think I have found what is needed for happiness. A quiet secluded life in the country, with the possibility of being useful to people to whom it is easy to do good... then rest, nature, books, music, love for one's neighbor - such is my idea of happiness.
