Behind the shadows, chapter 1,The Jungle of Hulm, part 2

(Continuation from: Behind the Shadows, chapter one.)

I can do this she tried to convince herself. But it was no use the darkness of the forest took all hope of crossing out of her. It was to late to turn back now, she had to continue. So on she want.

To keep her mind busy, she thought of her family. Her mom was a faelier, or at last from what father had told her. It was probably true because her skin was very pall, her almond shape eyes and she was short in a fragile way like all fael people. The funny part is that she dark hair unlike the faelier who had white her at birth. She must have inherited that from her father.

Had never known her mother, who had die three month after giving birth. Edwin, her father had taken her to the citadelle. There he had given her to the care of his younger sister. At the age of seven, Edwin decide that it was time for to learn the art of fighting. He taught her to fight with all different type of weapons, to ride and to use a bow and arrow.

Edwin took car mostly of her training himself, at the exception of wane he was call by the emperor. As Irina grew the emperor ask for Edwin more and more. Edwin was a close friend of the emperor and leader of the black legion. Her father was often gone secret mission and Irina stared to miss him more and more. Soon enough she started to which to go with but every time he refused saying that it was too dangerous.

One year wane she was about to turn eleven her father left for a very long time. And wane he came back he had seemed worried. He told her to prepare herself for a long journey. Irina had rejoiced thinking she would finely go on an adventure, but he had brought her to this slave farm. Were she had stayed a year, working every day to make that fat, rich, and arrogant farmer even richer.

“One year. So much time wasted.” She sight, “ I’m sure father didn’t know how the farmer would enslave me.”

She had spoken out loud and the words echoed between the trees. She realized that it be wiser now not to speak at all in till she was well out of the Jungle.

That is if I ever get out of this place, she thought full of gloom. She continued her endless walk deeper in the wood. The shadows of the trees seem to be moving with her, as if there were human. But as she walked deeper and deeper the light faded, and so did the shadows. Irina was soon in total darkness. The only light that was to be found came from strange plant glowing in the darkness.

What is scarier, thought Irina, seeing shadows or not seeing at all.

Of course she had no answer. So she turned her head over her shoulder to see the path she had taken, only blackness were there.

To Irina it seemed that she had been walking for hours but she couldn’t really tell because it was impossible for her to see the sun. Irina had the most unpleasant feeling of being watch. It made her really uneasy and scared her, but she no other choice then to continue.

As her eyes became to adjusted o the darkness, she became awarded of many pair of red and yellow eyes watching her. They were all around her, encircling her. She ignored them since it didn’t seem that they wanted to attack her.

Her mind was now focusing on the best path to choose. She had heard tell of the jungle of Hulm. Most of them talk about Black spirits that trick you into following them in till you were lost.

Irina didn’t believe all those tell. And anyway even if those spirits existed they would be capable of luring me. I have a took good sense of direction. She thought. All I have to do is keep walking west.

It was getting harder for Irina to ignore the eyes, for more came every minute.

At last they don’t bloke me off. Remarked in her head, they move off as I come.

As soon as she finishes her thought, she regrets even more then ever having passed by the forest. Two huge eyes were right in front of her blocking the way. They were way bigger then all of the others and were ten time brighter.

Irina was paralyzed. If it a tiger maybe, maybe I have a small, but if it a bear or worst an elastic bear; that you know nothing about, you are dead.

“You were dead from the time you put your foot in this forest.” Said a little voice in her head that always seem to appear when she was panicking.

I know, just shut up. I’m trying to think. It really could be anything but anything…

“ Let’s see what we have here!” A voice said cutting short her thought. Irina almost fainted from fright. Once she was over with the shock. Irina manage to say:

“ Who… Who are you? What…. What do you want?

“What do I want?”

The voice was booming in the dark.

“ I think you know perfectly what I want!
