I wonder what happens to love

I wonder what happens to love
that's been smashed and tainted and crushed.
Is it still passionate and full of hope?
Or silent…finally hushed?

I wonder what happens to love
after it's been pushed and broken and shoved.
Does it pull itself back together?
Or does it fade away into the dust?

I wonder what happens to love
when it becomes nothing but dirt.
Does it grow from the soil again?
Or does it dissolve into the earth?

I wonder what happens to love
which is all that a soul has to give.
Is it wasted and disposed?
Or is it given a chance to live?

I wonder what happens to love
when it's poor to the rich man's eye.
But even he can't afford
such a big and beautiful lie.

I wonder what happens to love
after its left us to the cold hands of fate.
Does it return once again
in the form of bitter self-hate?

Daddy Long Legs are more closely related to crabs than spiders and somehow the idea of crablike creatures with spider legs that have escaped the entrappings of the primordial sea and now crawl over land and can walk up and down walls and ceilings creeps me more than I can adequately describe.
