"You're a First Rate Geek" (You Belong With Me PARODY) Edit

by JaneThermopolis

Published April 23, 2010

A parody of the song "You Belong With Me" by Taylor Swift. Not meant to offend any geeks/nerds/trekkies.

Verse 1:
You're on the phone with your gamer friend he's upset,
he's going on about shooting the alien's head,
because he doesn't get the video game like you do.
You're in the room it's a typical Tuesday night,
you like to play World of Warcraft past midnight,
but no one gets you like the other nerds.

They wear robes,
but you have Spock ears,
they have light sabres,
and you travel through light years.

Dreaming of the day when you'll wake up and find that, Princess Leia,
will want to smack your behind.

Chorus:
Can't you see that modern society has shunned you, you wear huge 80s frames, so why can't you see you're a first rate geek, you're a first rate geek.

Verse 2:
You get homework done before everybody else,
and then after to decide to calculate pi,
in order to get accepted to M.I.T.
And you've got a GPA that makes you the smartest kid,
never failed a test that's brought your grades down.
You say you know how to hack MySpace,
what are you doing with my emoticon face?

They wear robes,
but you have Spock ears,
they have light sabres,
and you travel through light years.

Dreaming of the day when you'll wake up and find that, Princess Leia,
will want to smack your behind.

Chorus:
Can't you see that modern society has shunned you,
you wear huge 80s frames, so why can't you see you're a first rate geek,
you're a first rate geek.
You stand by your collage of comic book characters,
all this time you really didn't know,
weakling,
you're a first rate geek,
you're a first rate geek.

-Instrumental-

Bridge:
Oh, I remember you playing Halo 3 in the middle of the night,
it's the game where you can commit murder and watch characters die.
You play the Star Wars score on your electric keyboard,
and fight Darth Vader in your dreams,
you think you know where you belong,
and that's perfectly fine with me.

Chorus:
Can't you see that modern society has shunned you,
you wear huge 80s frames,
so why can't you see you're a first rate geek.
You stand by your collage of comic book characters,
all this time you really didn't know, weakling,
you're a first rate geek,
you're a first rate geek.
Oh, Chew-a-baaa-caaa.
You're a first rate geek,
oh, you're a first rate geek.

So, I hoped you guys liked it! Comment, click the like button???? Thanks for reading! :elephant:

Well the positive for sure is you made me laugh... as was the purpose of this whole song.
Creative, absolutely, and well written at that. Work on the flow a little it tends to get wordy but overall
I like it, but unfortunately.. I like Taylor Swift a little more P:

This was pretty awesome!!!! This came close to making my day. Yet I must sadly say one thing, at some points the flow was off from the song, I know someone else said that, but I have to say it too.... =P.... But over all, totally GREAT! Keep writting!

Hello!

This was so cute and funny.

Dreaming of the day when you'll wake up and find that, Princess Leia, will want to smack your behind.
This made me choke on my coffee! It was so hilarious I laughed so loud.

I won't tell you that you need to fix the formatting, because everyone else did that. So I'm just going to say: Good job!

I always love things that talk about geeks, as I am a proud geek myself, and know a lot of people that are. I find this is a pretty accurate portrayal of a video game geek, so good job on that. The thing is, your lyrics don't exactly fit in with Taylor's. What I mean is, you sometimes have more syllables than the original, and sometimes you have less. It disrupts the flow and makes it feel awkward. I suggest going back and editing a few things here and there to improve. I suggest listening to the original as you edit your parody, so as to get the rhythm/syllables and such perfect. Other than that, awesome song! You should get someone to sing it and put it up on YouTube. I can certainly see it going viral :)

Hey JT!

I really liked it. You could do with a few touch ups to get the rhythms right.
Can't you see that modern society has shunned you, you wear huge 80s frames This strikes out, especially the 80's glasses line. Also; I think it would be better if it was 'modern society's shunned you.'

Good work, anyway.
Keep writing!

I loved it and it made me laugh! However, like some other people have already mentioned, the rhythem was awacard in spots.

This was really amusing! I'm no lyric expert, but there were two things that stood out to me in this.

1. The formatting. Please take the time to format this correctly; like lyrics should be. The first verse is the best out of all of them, but they should all be set in stanza's.

Example:
Verse 1

This is my song
It's so pretty
Lalala
Pretty

Chorus:

Yay pretty song
Pretty pretty song
Horray!

Yeah that was a lame excuse for a song, but you get the picture. Try looking at other lyrics and format yours accoridgly.

2. Flow. Some of the lines just didn't flow right. As it's a parody, the rythems should match up as closely as possible to the actual song. There were several lines that I felt had an extra word or two, and others that I felt could have used another word. Try listening to the song and saying your lyrics with it. If it doesn't flow right, try rewording.

The humor is great, just touch it up a bit to let it shine!

First off, please, please separate the chorus out into a stanza-looking thing. It makes it soo much easier to read and if it is in the block paragraph it's difficult to interpret where the lyrics fit in with the real song. My favorite bit was the light sabers and light years rhyme. My other suggestions are that you work more with the rhythm in some lines because in some parts the humor is great, but it doesn't fit well. That sort of throws it off for me. This had fantastic humor though, nerds are great subject matter to work with and I'm a nerd so, no offense taken. Nice job!!!!! :)
