The Incredible Hulk

I am monster. Very bad, always unglad.

Smash, Bash.

Me weak, you strong. Trash.

Puny human hurt Hulk

Destroy all who gets in my way

Before I get too weary again.

I feel...

If only I was given a chance

Basil

With scales binding across its coin tail ends, an animal hides in a tree, to eat off all the rodents that were brave enough to find what’s inside, fewer and fewer remained, and soon only the ruthless loner stayed, all day, all night, until one day the tree was split into threes by a lumberjack who along with everything inside, made be, and whatever survived was relocated in a cage plated with iron bars where it slitters and thrives, isolate and mean, and where a child can see its catty eyes, maybe all it needed was a name.

The Great Gazoo

Dance a triple left footed tango

Soar with the wind in perfect tempo and

Sing to the starry moon at night.

Love as if your heart reaches the heights

of your dreams and ambitions or whatever

you hold dear.

Then hold it nearer to whoever you

do, move closer, lean further in.

Make way for The Great Gazoo.

Sleepytime is Nigh

Super awake and dark outside

These are the worst of times

Sleep today. Sleep tomorrow

Sleep every day of the week

Don’t stay awake

Bad for the brain

Don’t eat late

Bad for the weight

Asleep from 9 to 5

Awake by day

I didn’t get to decide

Everything in its own time

Lions on a mound

Sleep is all we have

Literally makes the world go round

I have lost my mind

I’m extremely fucking tired right now it’s 5:49 right now leave me alone

Stupid Box

Dunce cap

Story breeding

Innate

Bottom fed

Bottle catching

Pig freaking

Mouth breathing

Perry Como

Ash smoking

Night glowing

Gay old time having

Merry Melody zapping

Recorded in front of a live studio audience

Stupid Box

You ruined my life!

Duh. Huh?

Poems are Dumb and I Hate Poetry

Back in High school with Mr. Lloyd

Real name, see if I care

Writing down slop on paper

I don’t give two bites

Eat my shorts

I give it a title

For the ignorant and dumb

I Have Poems

For the smart and intellectual

Internal Horadric Palindromes

For the correct answer

Hi AntonioVidalZ! Here to leave a review on your work.
Welcome to YWS! Hope you stay and continue to write <3

While this post in a collection of a few works, I will not be reviewing each one separately in a lot of depth but rather just give overall thoughts, feelings, and/or suggestions. I love collections and I think your title "Introduction to Poetry Works" does just that, as these pieces introduce us readers into your world of writing.

These poems have such a clear and continuous voice throughout. While it doesn't appear that these poems are tied together through meaning, they are definitely tied together through narration. These poems also do feel quite personal to you, the writer, as while poetry is often left to the interpretation of the audience, these poems give us a sense of you. Sometimes, writers and readers feel removed from the poem. You feel integrated within, which is only strengthened by that continuous voice. That is what made these collections most intriguing to me. Poetry is a small, small window into the life and inner workings of a person, and this collection of poetry allows us to see you as a writer and empathize in a way.

Whenever I read work that does feel quite personalized to the writer, my critiques become slim, as it no longer becomes a lens for me to search for grammatical or structural issues, but is simply a means of artistic expression.

My main suggestion? Keep writing. These works are clear and expressive without revealing too much but reveals enough to make sense to the reader and allows the audience to resonate with the poems and with you. While I apologize that my review does not include specific critiques, I really and thoroughly enjoyed reading each of these poems. I would love to read more and see you connect your work through your voice and tone.

Hey! Welcome to YWS! I'm not on here too often but I know a few writers who are, so if you want to get in touch with them you can reply to this to let me know.

Anyways, on to the Review ;)

I could tell this was an assignment and how the passion waned as you went.
The first three seemed genuinely inspired and creative. That's not to say the others were bad though.

Poems are often written about what we are feeling and what is going on around us and having a topic as relatable as being tired in the morning makes it even better. The last line of that poem made me smile (I hate getting up at 7am much less 5).

I'm not much of a poem writer myself and don't quite understand all the rules of poetry but The Great Gonzo had a great rhyme and word choice that was as dramatic as the character it described.

For me poems are about rhyme and feeling and the poem that evoked the most feelings out of me was Basil. It was a bit confusing (like most poetry) but the words still painted a beautiful picture in my mind of the wildness of nature captured and confined. A powerful creature caged for a child's enjoyment.

As for criticisms...

You probably already know this, but the last poem could use some work. But even in that poem there are things that I liked. The comparison of dumb to intellectual and using large words like Palindromes in the context for which you wrote the poem is very good.

Overall I enjoyed your poems and hope you continue writing. My biggest advice would be that your life can be a great canvas for poetry as well as other media you've read/watched. Forcing yourself to write (like with an assignment) can help you practice but the best writing will always be done when you are inspired.
The more you write the more you will find that you have a unique creativity inspired by what makes you, you.
Let it flow bro ;)

May blazing dragon-fire light your path and ignite the flames of your inspiration.
