What Christmas Is Really About

People tend to forget

What Christmas is really about

~

They say

“it’s about the pine tree

And the beautiful decorations”

“about the thick snow

Laying on the street below”

“Of course about colourful fireworks

about giving meaningful gifts”

“about feasts, mistletoes

And Santa Claus”

“Not to forget chocolate milk

With the mini marshmallows”

If you look closer,

you’ll see that Christmas is simply about

the ones you share bread with

The ones you keep in your prayers

The ones you love

The ones who stood next to you

Through thick and thin

The ones who accepted you

Just the way you are

The ones who were your sunshine

On your rainy days

~

~ That’s why we celebrate Christmas ~

Hey again! Wow, another lovely poem of yours :D I'm so glad I found this, even if it's only August right now xD I will follow the message of this poem and have Christmas in my heart all year round haha! Let's jump right into the review!

This poem really speaks about the true meaning of Christmas. You begin by going through a lot of different things that people do around the holiday, season, detailing things like giving gifts or the snow or having big feasts. You talk about a lot of external things, such as things that we can buy, or accomplish or beautiful trees that we can have in our home. But this isn't the true meaning of Christmas.

If you look closer,

you’ll see that Christmas is simply about

I like how you use the word simple. We don't need to do something crazy in order to see the tenderness that is available to everyone. We just need to stop. We need to pause and listen to the silence. It's very simple, to feel the love.

I love this quote:

The ones who accepted you

Just the way you are

The ones who were your sunshine

On your rainy days

I think this is so true. You really touch on the message of love. The message of things that are felt the heart, but not seen with eyes. Things that cannot be bought with money, but can only be bought through heartfelt connections, acceptance, and unconditional love. This poem is so simple, but it has a wonderful message behind it. I found that your words were very simple, just like the message that you shared. But they were tender, and I felt them deeply in my heart, and this makes me wanna be a better person. Overall fantastic poem! I can't wait to read even more :D

Your friend,
Ellie

I should request more reviews of you, reading them makes my day better :D I'm so glad you enjoy reading them Ellie. I'm glad our LSS is also a poetry one ;D

Hiya! Ley here to review.<3

First impressions... I love anything holiday related, so this caught my eye right away. I also wanted to mention how aesthetically pleasing this format is! I also enjoyed the premise of this poem-- and how most people think of the wrong things when it comes to Christmas.

When I was reading this I felt... Nostalgic, Happy, Spirited. This poem projects feelings of hope and holiday cheer! I also like the little Christmas Tree emoji at the bottom xD

My favorite line/quote is...

“about the thick snow

Laying on the street below”

I'm not sure if this was an intentional rhyme, but I enjoyed it!

Some things I would change would be... Absolutely nothing! I found nothing wrong with this poem-- no grammar mistakes, no technical mistakes, nothing :)

Overall... I really enjoyed this poem! I don't see many Holiday poems on YWS so I'm super glad you shared this :D it was the perfect poem to release in December. Happy writing and Happy Holidays!

With Love,
Leya

Hello there, human! I'm reviewing using the YWS S'more Method today!

Shalt we begin?

Top Graham Cracker - This poem tells of why Christmas is celebrated, the real, true reason that lies in everyone’s soul.

Slightly Burnt Marshmallow - I thought that this poem was fine, but if you wanted to, you could add how even on Black Friday, the start to Christmas, is a mess for everyone. This is just an idea, though.

Chocolate Bar - The last line in particular was my favorite. When you say that those we love is the reason Christmas is celebrated. Many people focus on the material aspects and not the heart of Christmas, which is about spreading love.

Closing Graham Cracker - I’ve enjoyed reading this Christmas poem, it really captures the spirit overall!

I wish you a lovely day/night! :>

What a great poem! Even though the message of "Christmas is about family, not presents" is one as old as time, by the second verse, I was almost tearing up just from your vivid word choice and the imagery it conjured. Especially that last line; "The ones who were your sunshine, on your rainy days." It just feels like a metaphor that has a lot of depth and meaning, and for lack of a better term, it hits hard.

Overall, this is a perfect Christmas poem, especially for those having a particularly stressful or hard holiday season (a LOT of people these days), and I feel like reading this would be just the thing to give those people a smile. I know it worked on me!

Wonderful work ~
