I drew this a while ago, it's of an actual mask that I own. Unfortunately the feathers didn't come out too great...The poem, on the other hand, I wrote not too long ago. It was something that popped into my head and ended up becoming one of my favorite poems that I've written.
As I sit upright in my bed, the night drags on and morning feels like an eternity away
My mind ponders and resents the time when I will have to wear my mask
I think about those who believe they know me when in actuality, they know nothing about me
Once someone is in my presence, the mask is placed
A smile is glued onto my face
The words that come out of my mouth are created from somewhere within me
Neither from my heart, nor mind
I've been hiding for so long that I'm losing the essence of myself
I just have one question
Why do I wear this mask?
Is it because of my fear to show the world who I am?
Am I really that much of a coward?
I hope for the day where I can take off my mask in full confidence
Where I can show the world who I really am
When I can be me without fear
I'll wait for that day but until then,
I will remain the same
Masked from the world, and even masked from myself.
