How are you making out?
Are your ambitions reached yet,
or am I still weighing you down?
Did you see all that you wanted to see?
Did you travel all around?
Was leaving me here alone quite worth it?
Or is it nothing that you have found.
I've sat awake for days on end,
hoping to hear a word.
It's now been a year since I've heard from you,
and my dear, that's quite absurd.
It leaves me here to only ponder,
If you've found love again,
If she loves you the way I do,
If she knows where the hell you've been.
I'm tired of longing for the past,
Of which we spent together,
If it's over, please enlighten me,
I won't hold on forever.
If it's the end you wish,
Please don't be hesitant to tell,
If that's the case, I promise you,
I sure won't wish you well.
Cheers to you, my special man,
Hanging me to dry,
You think you were so slick to fool me,
You think I couldn't catch your lies.
Think of me while you lie with her,
Caressing her in bed,
I promise you with all my heart,
I will haunt you in your head.
I send you nothing but hate, my love,
I hope she breaks your heart,
I should have seen this sooner,
I hesitated from the start.
To bring this letter to an end,
I hope you've found a life,
One of which you're happy with,
By leaving behind your wife.
It would be rather spiteful of me,
To wish your plane will crash,
To hope you choke in your sleep,
Or come up with an awful rash.
Think of this as my own goodbye,
For you'll never see me again,
I promise that to you this time,
Because I've taken matters into my own hands.
I'm ending this, this painful life,
Of misery and waiting,
I hope when the news is broken to you,
You'll find it devastating.
The headlines will scream out to you,
"Young Woman Takes Her Life",
Because of you, my oh-so faithful husband,
You'll no longer have a wife.
Spoiler
I do realize that I totally changed the mood of the letter from the beginning to end, and before you point it out to me, I did do it on purpose. At the start, she was playing it nice to be polite, to make sure her husband had started to read it, but she turned the tables on him, by the ultimate way of leaving him. This isn't one of my best works, I wrote it around four in the morning, half asleep yet inspired. I'm not too sure if I actually like it or not.. I was actually thinking of turning this into a short story rather then a poem.
