The Sadness of Loving

A mother had a baby, her pride and joy.
Her joy was forgotten when she met another boy.
A boy who took her away, and beat her at night.
The little girl grew up with nothing but fright.
Mommy ignored the little girl, she didn't care as long as she was told,
"I love you." By all the boys in her world.
She wanted the attention, she needed it to live.
Did she know her daughter was now older than a kid?
That her baby grew up behind her Mommy's back?
That no matter what her little girl would never come back?
She was older in the mind, but young in the eyes.
Her mom went off and left her pride.
When Mommy came home she had a new lover.
A lover who looked nice, but only to Mother.
When the girl got in trouble that's when he got mad.
Was she really meant to call this man Dad?
He would lash out his anger with words and his fist.
She'd pray to God that he would miss.
"Don't hit me again, please hit the wall."
But then, then her body would fall.
He would leave her on the floor, where was her Mother?
Tending and loving on her baby brother.
The girl had to put her heart back together.
"Forget all the pain that he brought to you not your mother."
And now where is this girl?
Trying to live in a tiny world.
She's trapped in her house, she never can leave.
Its this man, this man she's always begging to please.
She prays every night she won't be like mother.
Begging for love and forgetting another.

I love the idea of this poem, that a person only has so much love and when they give it to the man in their life they have nothing left for their child. It kind of sounds like every daughter's worst nightmare. That being said, it was a bit confusing at times-- the use of the pronoun "she" left me wondering whether or not certain parts were talking about the mother or daughter.

I understand it now, but this part is especially a problem area. If you could just stick to one title for both of them, like "mommy" and "daughter" and try not to use she it would improve this poem exponentially.
Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart.

Thank you! It's actually a true story.. Ha. But anyway, I'm thinking about changing it up a little bit! I'll have to look at it and change it a little! But thank you!

The poem is really very well written. The rhymes added to its sophistication. And if it's really a true story then I'd say such women are a curse to the world. Nevertheless, I love your poem. :-)
Imperfection is beauty,
Madness is genius,
And it's better to be absolutely ridiculous
Than to be absolutely boring... :-D

This is a house of homes, a sacred place, by human passion made divinely sweet.
