Death came to me like the wind. Lights and sounds blared all around me, so at first I didn’t even realize He was there. He came up behind me and I felt a chill. The icicles cut to my bones and I tried to run. I wanted to be anywhere but here. Yet, I did not want to leave either. I did not want Him to take me, so I wanted to stay in this disaster. People were screaming and I wanted to stay. I looked down. I watched one of my tears fall and disappear before it hit the pavement. The night air had been warm and held the moisture of a rain that is just about to fall. All I felt was the cold that Death brought with Him.
I gasped when I saw Emma. She had come for me. She was just barely too late, though. I tried to run to her, but I could not leave the spot where I stood. I tried to call out to her, but no sound left my mouth. I refused to turn around though I could feel Him behind me. Emma was here now. I would never leave as long as she was here with me.
The first drops of rain fell, but I could not feel them. They passed through me and gathered on the pavement below. More of my tears fell and disappeared on the street. Finally I turned. I turned walked into the waiting arms of Death.
