The Angelic Letters
By: Samuel Swanson
The Following is a letter from Michael, archangel and leader of the heavenly host, in response to a letter received from his friend and fellow archangel Gabriel, who is now a professor at a college in the heavenly realm asking advice on securing human salvation.

Dear Gabriel,

It is hard to express how delighted I was to receive a letter from you last week. I apologize for not replying earlier, our former friend and colleague’s incessant attack on our father’s beloved on earth has required my immediate attention. How we could use a soldier of your caliber on the front lines again to secure the protection of our human friends from our fallen brethren down below. However, in regard to your student’s question on a human’s insatiable love of reading I am honored that you revere my opinion so highly. It is possible to argue the case from either side, but in all my years of experience I have found that this human quality seems to work in our favor. No doubt the enemy will try to use this curiosity to present them with many false ideas and harmful ways of thinking, and present them with facts in order to win him over to their side, but in the end this only wins people ephemerally. We must give our human friends more credit; they are not nearly so superficial when it comes to choosing life philosophies as the enemy would have us believe. What our enemy fails to realize is that we have them beat on both the religious and scientific sides. It has always been my policy to encourage that gift of curiosity that our father has given the race of humans it is our job to protect. It is wise to allow them to discern for themselves the right path; this inevitably leads them to our side.
However, there are rumors that the infamous Screwtape from below is aware of this fact as well, and has been encouraging his own students not to tempt humans with false knowledge, but rather, to discourage there love of knowledge altogether. This guile demon has realized that human apathy wins more to his side than arguing against us, for he knows well that the foundation of our arguments is far stronger than his, and he also knows that by creating indifference in the human, he takes away our chance at arguing our case. This innovative technique is far more effective for securing the damnation of human’s souls. If the demon you are facing has employed this new method it is imperative that you swiftly counterattack by stimulating their mind with as much knowledge as possible.
As always, it is a great pleasure hearing from you. I look forward to more letters from you, and sincerely hope this letters gives your students insight and prepares them for the work they will do for our father above after their graduation. I wish you and them the best of luck.

Your friend and colleague,
Michael The Archangel

Hi there
I like this, a lot. Wow. Your vocabulary is magnificent, I feel like I am watching a movie when I read this. I can tell you are really creative basing on the general idea and where you are taking this. Because most short stories I have read almost talk about the same thing which is getting old. Have you ever thought of maybe turning this into a thought provoking novel maybe? It could be a hit. Great job. :)
The best is what you make it!

Hello Swanee!

Welcome to YWS!

So, this is a very good piece. I like it. Now, here are a few comments:
I apologize for not replying earlier; our former friend
Should be a semi-colon.
How we could use a soldier of your caliber on the front lines again to secure the protection of our human friends from our fallen brethren down below.
I'm confused by this line. You need to rephrase it.
It has always been my policy to encourage that gift of curiosity that our father has given the race of humans it is our job to protect.
I don't understand the underlined bit. If you mean, 'It is our job to protect it,' it should be another sentence.
I look forward to more letters from you, and sincerely hope these letters gives your students insight

Good job with the letter. If you smoothen out some lines, it will be very good.

Keep writing.

I really enjoyed reading this. The title is very good. I liked the theme I have often thought of making a story with angels in it but I have no idea how to go about it. You seem to know what you are talking about. Keep it up. I look forward to reading more of your pieces. :D
