Those big round blue eyes staring back happy and inocently, and the bold print above it written "Missing Young Girl" My little sister five years old staring at me wherever i looked, lampost, fences, speedlimit signs. She would always be five years old to us even though today if she was here we would be celebrating her sixth birthday.
I blinked back the tears that were threatning to overtake me and looked straight ahead past the fluttering signs and towards my house at the end of the street.
It was lit up like a christmas tree. My family hardly ever went to bed before midnight if
at all. My brother, Will, was usually first but you couldn't really say he fell asleep he usually passed out. Sometimes on the couch or on the floor infront of the couch. The stairs in the kitchen. Anywhere that wasn't his bed - he never made it that far.
I flicked the indercator on and waited for the one lone car to go past. It took its time slowly creeping along, peerving in the windows of house - invading there privacy. As soon asit had gone around the corner and disapeared with a flick of an indercator, i pulled into the driveway of my house. You couldn't tell from the outside that hearts were breaking, a family crushed beyond repair.
The house was two stories high with a big front door and a double garage. The top story was all glass and all the curtains were open, apart from one. No one ever went into Peytons room and since she went missing at night the curtains have stayed closesd. It use to make me feel sad to go into her room when she first went missing. The feeling of guilt always washed through me, slowly dripping into my blood stream until it was all through my body. If i had just let her stay in my room like she asked...
Seeing all her toys piled in the corner on her beanbag where she last chucked them, or the game of "Last Card' set up in the middle of the floor that Will and her were playing the night before it happened. Who knew that she would never be able to finish that game. The feeling of emptyness was so strong that it practically suffocated you.
But know unbeknown to anybody but me i often sneak into her room at night - after cheaking all the windows are sealed shut, and doors locked - and cuddle up in her bed till morning. It was where i could feel her with me the most, making it feel possible that she was actualy here once.
Hope you enjoyed.
