The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathon Stroud

Just finished Ptolemy's Gate yesterday... Is anyone else in love with this series?? Seriously, I haven't really heard people talk about it but I personally loved the imagination and complexities involved. Plus, who doesn't love Bartimaeus' humor? So, fans out there because I know there has to be some, who's with me?

When I read the last sentence, I wanted more. Hence my oh-so-brilliant idea of a Bartimaeus rp. So I just want to know if other people enjoyed it as much as me and would like to develop their own character and stories. I think the way it's set up lends it for that easily, and I'm intrigued with the idea of making my own demon with all their own forms, and exciting accomplishments throughout history.

Anyways... good series. Highly recommended.

This is basically my favorite series of books... ever. I've almost never laughed so hard at a book, and barely ever come to love a group of characters more. And the story and characters and world were so much more developed and complex than most fantasy authors dare to try for... Jonathan Stroud is basically one of my writing gods. XD

I agree, Jonathon Stroud is AMAZING. What's weird about this series though is that I rank it up with the best of them and hardly anyone's ever heard of it. But the people who have heard of it always think it's fantastic.

So anyways, I went ahead and created a roleplay site based off it. It's called Outside the Pentacle and some really awesome people from Proboards Support worked on the banner and a special code that allows... *drumroll* Bartimaeus-esque-footnotes in a post! I'm pretty excited about that system, it'll give the demons that feel.

Enough advertising, even though I'm super excited about that. Everyone I've talked to about the series says Bartimaeus is their favorite character, which doesn't surprise me- he's pretty awesome. But people's least favorite are a little bit varied. The most common, it seems, is Jane Farrar. (Wonder why?) Some others were Lovelace, Makepeace, and Nathaniel. Nathaniel drove me nuts in the 2nd and 3rd... So yeah, someone come and discuss with me, please!

The Bartimaeus Trilogy is so much better than that sparkly drivel known as Twilight. It's very high up on my list of favorite books. I hated Nathaniel for most of the series, but then at the end, oh my gosh. Ptolemy's Gate made me weep.

Stroud is a funny guy too; his NaNoWriMo emails were great.

Bartimaeus' humor is simply amazing. Sarcastic in an endearing way, like House, but not.

I love the Bartimaeus Trilogy. I only read it because it was the only thing in the caravan I hadn't all ready read but by the end of the first book I was hooked so I had to borrow the other two of my brother when he had read them (which took a million years). I think my fav character is either Kitty or Bartimaeus because I like the way Kitty fights for what she believes in and because Bartimaeus is just funny.

Bartimaeus was a character that was just so refreshing to read. I mean, it was really clever, witty, and the way he bonded with Kitty was just really sweet. My favourite out of the three books had to be the last one - for the first time I totally fell in love with Nathaniel's character, I understood why he was the way he was in the previous books and it was really sweet to discover his new found respect and even attraction towards Kitty.

All in all, the money I spent on this series was well worth it. It's definitely a series that's up there with Harry Potter - one that is timeless and one that you can read again and again without getting bored.

I was waiting for someone to post something about these books.
I LOVE THEM. Seriously, they are very, very good. They are extremely clever and witty, and sweet at times, but not soppy. Soppy is gross. Bartimaeus is not gross.
The first time I knew about them was when I asked my friend what she would like for her birthday. She said 'the last book in the Bartimaeus trilogy, I can't remember what it's called'. So I looked in Whitcoulls, and I found it, and I bought it. Then my friend told me to start reading the trilogy, and I fell in love with all three of them.
Hehe. That's all I have to say.

I love that series. It made me laugh and was, pretty much, the first epic series I ever read that wasn't sappy. Bartimaeus is one of my all-time favourite characters, and I love his attitude towards Nathaniel and the other djinn. His sarcasm in a life-or-death moment made these books worthwhile.
One of my favourite parts in these books was the bit in The Amulet of Samarkand when

Bartimaeus beat up the messenger imp and made it call him a different honorary name every time it spoke...

it was so awesome.
As well as making me laugh, these were also kind of sad(but without being sappy, again) in places like the end of Ptolemy's Gate when

All in all, though, this books ROCK.

I love this series. I first read them when I was 11 or 12, and didn't fully understand; all I remembered was that Bartimaeus was funny. I picked them up again just recently and have fallen in love with them. Every time I finish Ptolemy's Gate, I always heave a sigh and think, "That was a good piece of work."

On a side note, has anyone read "The Ring of Solomon" yet? It's a precursor to the trilogy; Bartimaeus narrates his time spent in Solomon's service. I was extremely excited to know that another Bartimaeus book was out.
