"I'm dead. I'm dead." I repeated looking around. I was lying on the floor in the garden underneath the lemon tree. Two figure's were approaching me, one was a girl, the other a boy.
"Oh Steven, wasn't that game we played so fun?" The girl chirped twirling around in her flowered white dress.
"Yes Ashley, that game was most fun, wasn't it?" Steven said taking her hand and placing a kiss on it.
"Hello Andrew, fancy seeing you here." Ashley said tipping her head down with a curtsy.
"I was just out taking a stroll looking for you as a matter of fact." I said taking her hand and leading her to the stone bench beneath the lemon tree.
"Now, now brother, don't be greedy." Steven said, sitting down beside her taking her other hand.
"Oh, I am parched." Ashley said placing her hand to her forehead and leaning forwards.
"Here take some of my blood." The words came from my mouth without ease as if this had already happened before. Taking my forearm she sunk her fangs into it and drank slowly. I could feel her growing stronger and her pleasure from doing this.
"Take some of mine too." Steven thrust his arm in front of her and she drank it gratefully.
"Now you both must have some of mine." She said slitting both her arms. I drank her blood as Steven did too. Ashley smiled, I stared at her beautiful face, her brown curls caressed her face in such a gentle way and her brown eyes were encased with beautiful lashes. I turned abrutly from the scene as gunshot was fired in the distance.
"Oh no." She whispered, "Oh no!" Grabbing both our hands she fled from the garden with both of us trudging close behind. We came to an edge with the archway that was the only exit to find it surrounded by men with guns and stakes, wooden stakes. The guns were probably loaded with wooden bullets too.
"Hello Miss. Vampire," One of the men said pointing his gun at Ashley and firing, the bullet landed in her stomach spilling out blood. "Are these two vampires too?"
"No, leave them and take me, I'm the only vampire."Ashely said stepping forward holding her stomach with one hand.
"No Ashley, they'll kill you! Take us too sir, we aren't vampires, but we both love her." I said stepping forward with her.
"Count me in." Steven said grabbing Ashley's hand. Yanking us roughly the men pulled us along to the barn that belonged to the man next door.
"Alright, all of you in there. Go and join the rest of your vampire friends." The man said holding a torch. "Alright guys, thats the last of them, set it ablaze." Grabbing torches the men closed the doors and locked them.
"Andrew, Steven, I love you both, but you must leave! You are humans, and in a few days you'll be dead. And I'll eat you, this fire won't kill me, but the lack of blood will." Ashley said. "I think that there is a hole around here somewhere, you must escape through it, I'll come with you if I must."
"You must." I said bravely, I could already smell the smoke and I could barely see a thing. "Come Steven, I think there is a hole over there, I used to work here for a while and I remember seeing one."
"I found it!" Steven yelled. Hand in hand the two of us ran towards his voice. "Climb through there, Ashley, you go first. Then you Andrew, I'll go last."
I watched as Ashley scurried her way out through the hole, her hand popped back in and heaved me up. "I thought you would find the hole." I turned and saw the man who had talked to us earlier aiming his gun at me.
"No stop!" I yelled, but it was to late. Steven had come up from the hole just as the man had fired, the bullet plunged into Steven's heart and I heard his piercing screams.
The man wasn't done though, he aimed his gun at me and fired. Bullets plunged into my heart and I fell to the ground in pain. "Leave them alone!" Ashley lunged forward, her fangs sticking from her mouth. The man was faster though, grabbing a stake from his bag he plunged it into her heart just as she reached his neck. "Oh,no. Steven and Andrew, I know you probably can't hear me but when you wake up, you'll be okay. Kill this man, and drink his blood and you will live forever. I love you both so much-" Ashley strangled, but she was cut off, she was dead. The last things I saw as I took my last breaths was the man throwing Ashley's body into the burning barn and walking away with a smile of triumph on his face. Then everything went black and I heard voices calling to me in the darkness.
*********
"Andrew! Please wake up Andrew! I need you!" I screamed pushing him hard on the chest, tears were streaming down my face. "Steven, he's not moving. He's really dead this time." I placed my face in my hands and looked away from his unmoving body.
"Callie, say something that would really make him happy. LIke say you're sorry, or-" Steven began.
"I love you! Andrew I love you! I love you! Please wake up, you're breaking my heart!" I screamed laying my head on his cold chest. "I love you."
"Really?" He whispered. His eyes fluttered open and he looked at me in amazement. "Really Ashley, you like me best?" He slowly sat up and placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Go along with it, he thinks you're Ashley. Act like Ashley." Steven said nudging me, he walked back into the house and shut the door.
"Yes Andrew, I choose you." I said helping him stand up.
"Permission to kiss you, my fair lady?" He asked bowing.
"Permission granted." I said with a curtsy, he placed his hands on my shoulders and kissed me, he pulled off and smiled. "That was nice, how about another one?" I said. He gladly did the same thing again except this time it was more passionate. Holdy eachother closely we pulled apart shaking violently.
"Thank you very much Ashley. You remind me of another girl I love, in fact you look exactly alike." He said smiling helping me up.
"Who is she?" I asked.
"Callie, except I love her more than you, when I kiss her I can tell she loves me back, but when I kiss you I feel nothing, because you are dead. I saw you die." His words were harsh and stilled the wind in the trees.
"You are right, Ashley is dead. But I'm not Ashley, I'm Callie. Steven just saw everything we did and I fear he is angry, you have to leave now!" I pulled his hand and ran towards the woods with him following close behind.
"Hello Andrew, I see you didn't keep your promise." It was Abby and she was grabbing Andrew from me. "I hate you, you slut!" Abby snarled looking at me.
"Leave Callie alone! I love her!" Andrew pounced on Abby ripping up her neck with his fangs. "Apologize!" His face was blood red from the blood pouring from Abby's neck.
"Oh Andy! I thought we went over this, I'm just playing a game you know!" She cackled throwing her head back. "I could kill you in a second."
"No you can't, Abby! Please don't hurt him!" I screamed, Abby had gotten free of Andrew's grasp.
Her eyes went blank and glassy and she whispered. "Callie, I'm sorry! But he is controlling me! You have to leave! Leave this town, and hide. I'm so sorry!" And with that she disappeared in a cloud of smoke.
"Come, Callie and Andrew. We must leave, I heard what Abby said. And I saw everything that happened. Don't worry I'm not mad that you kissed Callie, Andrew. I have our sacks ready, come on, we have to leave." Steven appeared through the brush and handed us two sacks. One full of clothing, the other full of blood bags.
Running to the car we all climbed inside, Steven taking the wheel. Pressing on the pedal we zoomed down the driveway and onto the main road. "Steven, where are we going?" I asked looking out the window.
"Somewhere far away from here, somewhere like Italy. We are going to my home town." He answered.
"No! We can't go there! Anywhere but there! Please!" Andrew pleaded leaning forward pulling on his seatbelt.
"Sorry brother, but this creature is obviously smarter than we think. But I don't think he know's where we are from." Steven answered keeping his eyes on the road.
"We need to go to Italy, Andrew. Please don't make this more difficult than it already is." I said looking back at him.
"No, I'm not going." Andrew said smugly crossing his arms.
"Brother don't be a child! We must do this to stay safe!" Steven turned abrutly taking his eyes off the road.
"Steven, stop looking at him, look at the road!" I screamed.
"Not now Callie!" He answered angrily.
"Steven, look out!" I yelled. He turned quickly as he slammed on the brakes slamming into a tree. The car flipped over rolling on it's side. I scrambled for the door handle crawling out of the car. I rubbed my face feeling it wet with blood. I examined and saw a piece of rubble move and Andrew crawl out. He was bloody all over his body. "Andrew, where's Steven?" I asked
"I don't know." He said falling to the ground.
"Steven!" I called, there was no answer. "Steven!" I fell to the ground, a fire blazing in a ring around me.
"I will always know where you are. Don't think you can run away." A voice boomed, it was the creatures. Probably the one controlling Abby. "Don't worry honey, Steven is still alive. I won't kill anyone, yet."
