My First Photography Post!!!

Hi! As the title says, this is my first photography post here at YWS! I know there are a lot of photos, but I wanted to keep them together because they all have the same colorful vibe. Anyway, enjoy and critique!

These pics are smokin' cool.

I have to say, normally when I see photography posts here on the site, they aren't normally this unique and diverse. Your angles here are beautiful, and the colors --magnificent. It appears like a few of these were taken in some artsy studio or other. At least, that's the impression I'm given.

The old bike on the first picture was truly the perfect subject I think. You have all these colors and paints and distracting objects in the background. you would think it's maybe a bit too cluttered to draw in a focused subject just properly. The fact that the bike appears so dingy and old and dirty evokes such an impeccable contrast here in the shot. I have no complaints to the way it came out. It's truly unique, so great job.

I don't quite get the second picture. I mean, it seems like whatever that swirly thing in the shot is is a piece of art itself, but all this shot looks like to me is a picture taken of another piece of art. There isn't any real artistic element to the shot itself, which is a shame. I would have liked to have seen something a bit more interesting, despite how interesting that little swirly thing seems to look. What is that anyway?

The perspective on the number 19 sign shot is pretty neat. There's that sort of dinginess that makes it stand out to the eye against the sky it's contrasting with in the background. The only thing wrong I feel with this shot is that there isn't much to really look at. It's just giant numbers. There's no real clue as to what kind of sign this is or why it says "19".

Your fourth image is rather interesting as far as the perspective goes. When I look at it it just seems a little awkward. Like, "what in the heck were you trying to attempt with this shot!?" But I think that's what I sort of like about it. It's just a close-up of a bottle with a rope tied around the neck, and then you have this very dry looking background. It sets off a certain mood that I can't quite put my finger on. Though it is interesting.

I'm not quite sure what's going on with this fifth picture here. It just looks like a bunch of messy over-sized spools without any thread on them. It is another grungy shot, which seems to go with the rest of your pictures really well. But as a shot by itself, I'm not really quite sure what to make of it.

I really like the last picture. It seems to be the only shot that makes sense when I look at it. You have the steps, but they're red and made of medal with that sort of garage print on them. I want to guess that they belong as steps to like a carnival ride or something, but I know I'm probably completely wrong. The way the sign hangs looks awesome. The little crossbones are cool as well.

Overall, I think these are some neat shots you've taken. Though a little random and grungy looking, that was probably what you were going for anyway. Definitely keep up the photography kick. I can see it probably interests you a lot. Nice work.

You definitely have some interesting concepts here, which is a breathe of fresh-air if anything else. I've gotten so used to nature shots on here that I started to forget people even bothered to take pictures of other things.

That being said, I give you a big thumbs up on the subjects. Now lets break these bad boy's, down.

Photograph 1:

Now, as much as the subject of this picture is... strange to say the least, there are many things you could have done with it. That and its interesting. Taking pictures of boring things can sometimes kill that spirit that makes a photographer unique.

Either way, I'm not particular about the shot itself. Maybe because it appears to be a little crooked? It definitely feels unbalanced as you have quite a bit going on in the left side that draws a lot of the attention away from the fact that this one was based around the odd lollipop creation.

That being said, I think I would have liked this better if there was less... stuff in the background. Maybe it against a white wall, or a decrepit wall as it doesn't look to be all that shiny and brand-new. If you cleared some of the junk out, I'm sure you would have a fantastic shot.

Photograph 2:

By far my favorite.

The look, the feel. The dusty looking, artsy feeling bohemian awesomeness that is this photo makes me one very happy camper. There are technical things I could probably point out but on a larger scale, brilliance.

Thumbs up from me on this one.

Photograph 3:

another one where the angle appears to be spoiling it. I feel like you cut too much off the 1 and left too much space around the 9. It seems kind of odd, in that sense.

Either way, the coloring is nice and vivid. Dynamically, though, I felt this to be one of your weaker photos.

Photograph 4:

I wish this was zoomed out a bit. It seems so... pushed in, like you wanted to go for something really interesting but you just missed it by a couple centimetres. Very, very close, though.

This is another one where I fear the background is also taking away from the immediate foreground which should have most of the attention. In that sense, as much as this is a lovely candid shot, I feel like it's a bit too crowded for its own good.

Next time, try focusing in on the bottle. If you do that, the background will blur out a bit which would give a very interesting look to this that won't make it feel overly full.

Photograph 5:

I personally love this photograph. I love the way you angled the shot so that everything almost appears to be coming in diagonally. Definitely one of the better ones, that's for sure.

A bit too much headroom, though. The positioning of the shot should be very articulated if you want to get a more professional looking piece. Of course, you could always trim this down a bit which would also work out to your favor. In any case, its definitely an interesting shot.

Photograph 6:

This one freaks me out in a good way.

Definitely interesting. Definitely fun. Its a photograph that almost tells a story which is what a good photo should.

I feel that maybe, though, you should have pulled back a bit. Not focused so much on the sign itself. The black will instantly draw the eye, anyways, so if you pulled it back a bit, we get more of an idea of what this photo means. Of course, that could just be me.

Overall:

Some of these show some promise. Learn a few rules, practice your technique, and polish them up all. You may find yourself taking even better photos next time you point your camera .

Firstly I just want to say I love the way you've done these photos you've chosen perfert angles to make different things stand out and its brilliant! I also love the way you've chosen things that arn't really seen as special or beautiful and than took the picture at an angle that made them look cool, brighter, nicer than people think!
Another think i like is that you have chosen one thing to focus on and but then the other things in the background still get notices and looked at! If some of these shots weren't taken properly people may think 'well why did you bother taking a picture of that' but you've done it well enough for people to see why you'd take at pictures of these objects!

Your very good at photography and you should keep going!!

i love these photos,specially the first two it puts art in a photo and colour i love the colour,you can never go wrong with bright colours in a photo.photo 3 is amazing since it's the red and the blue are contrast .The old bike in picture 2 is also great since it fits in with the backround ,with number 1 you could have done alot with like take a close up showing a little backround just enough to bring out the picture with the fading colours in the back and the bright ones in front.I love the close up in the rest and i think the green grass in photo 5 really a great colour to fit with the brown. Can't wait to see more...you can see my excitement through this picture
