Romance In Arena
a one-act play

Prologue

Two great clans battled for decades
In the cursed kingdom Lucha del Mar
Where streams crimsoned with bloody blades
And earth reddened more near than far

The sky darkened sending flames
The sea raged breathing its out
Blood-bathed knights of great names
Devoured by worms wandering about

Years and years witnessed the clash
Brutally ripping whole families
Blood ties burned to ash
Save only one couple to release

The innocence of youth defying falsehood
Seeking to purge the evil soul
Converting hatred into brotherhood
And love stood triumphant over all

Scene I

(within the land of Darko in the palace of Dastan, the sun shines over the chamber of
Lady Verona with its glimmering beams touching her face to rise from a deep slumber)

Lady Verona:(drawing off the curtains) Good morning my lovely birds, could you
Keep a secret, (stroking a sparrow gently)I’ve dreamt the most
charming dream of my life, it Was a huge feast and I was wearing a
dazzling dress with diamonds Allover it and papa was holding my
hand escorting me to my long-Awaited husband Lovlance whose
father was smiling joyfully to us And all the guests were so happy,
even the poor(laughing), they Were collecting the decoration
flowers throwing them at us merrily

(Enters Pathos)

Pathos:Good morning my little bud

Lady Verona:oh Pathos please stop calling me little bud, I’m twenty now, you
Know, you could call me a blossomming bud(laughing) that
Would be better.

Pathos:as you wish my dear, I’m sorry if it annoys you, but (touching her
Cheek) I only call you this because you’ll always be my baby, my
Little child whom I raised by my own hands after your blessed mother
Delivered you and died instantly (sobbing).

L.Verona: NO pathos don’t cry, (patting her) I’ve never doubted this fact, you’ve
Always been my mother thanks to whom I’ve become this fine young
Woman, who knows, without your tender, sound up-bringing, I Might
Have become a…. a.harlot, oh, pardon my tongue, (a rebuking look is
Shown in pathos’s eyes) . Oh Pathos those tears are too harsh for me,
I don’t want to be a cause of sorrow to you..

Pathos: no, no darling don’t you ever say this, you were the candle to light the
darkness of my past life and still are, I can’t live without you (they
embrace passionately).

Interesting, I would love to read the rest of it, if there is more. It's a very good storyline, and the wording of the characters is magnificent. Keep up the good work and try and improve the best you can. I didn't see anything wrong, but read it over and over again and you're bound to find something you don't like. It's part of improving.

H delicacy!

Okay, so I don't usually read plays but this was very good. I learnt a lot about the characters and understood your background. There are only a few things I think should be corrected:

Delicacy wrote: Good morning my lovely birds, could you Keep a secret,

Shouldn't there be a question mark?

And I suggest that you read through this yourself because there are quite a few places where you put caps in and the shouldn't be there. If thats a play thing and I'm wrong then just ignore me. I know almost nothing about plays!!!

But I loved the prologue and it was a very good first piece of work :)

Looking forward to reading more of your works on YWS!
