Akira glared at the Vegiemon while Renamon studied them. "What do you want?" Renamon asked, her voice even and calm. Veemon and Salamon shuffled, getting into a better position to attack.
One of the Vegiemon spoke. "Why do you disturb our home? Our master has said that those who disturb him are to be destroyed!"
"So, who would your master be?" Akira asked it.
A rustling from behind them stopped the Vegiemon's response as Jake appeared behind them, Gabumon beside him.
"About time you showed up," Akira said lightly, her eyes still on the Vegiemon. Sure enough, the Vegimon took advantage of the distraction to launch an attack.
"Many suffer from the incurable disease of writing, and it becomes chronic in their sick minds." —Juvenal (AD 60-130)
"Vegiemon!" Akira exclaimed as the five digimon advanced towards the group. The first three Vegiemon rushed forwards, charging towards Renamon who crouched down in a defensive position.
"Be careful, Salamon," Luna warned as the fourth of the digimon extended its tentacles in an attempt to wrap them around its adversary. Salamon dodged out of the way and then turned to bite her opponent's tentacle for a second time.
"Bad move, runt!" the Vegiemon exclaimed, dragging Salamon towards him.
"I'm going to head-butt you into the real world!" Veemon exclaimed, rushing to the rescue.
"V headbutt!" Veemon slammed head-first into the Vegiemon holding Salamon. The force of the attack loosened the digimon's grip on Salamon and threw it into the air.
Jake shouted, "Gabumon, attack!"
"Right! Howling Blaster!" A blue fireball shot out of Gabumon's mouth, hitting the airborne Vegiemon and burning it before it could hit the ground. The digimon exploded in a spray of pixels, reforming as a digiegg a few moments later.
Jake saw movement to his left and turned to see another Vegiemon charging him. "Gabumon!"
"Horn Attack!" Gabumon pierced the digimon with its horn. Same as the first one, the Vegiemon turned into a digiegg.

"Gotcha! Petit Bite!" Salamon barked as she attacked the closest Vegiemon. The Vegiemon attacked Salamon, slapping her with a vine. Salamon barked and attacked the Vegiemon, causing it to turn into a Digi-egg.
"This one's mine!" Veemon declared, launching himself towards one of the Vegiemon who had just been thrown through the air by Renamon. The dazed digimon stood up, wobbling back and forth as it attempted to regain its balance.
"Vee headbutt!" Veemon shouted again, his skull impacting with the Vegiemon and driving it up against a tree where it splintered into pixels that reformed to a digi-egg.
"Yay, way to go Veemon!" Rydia cheered as Renamon threw the two remaining Vegiemon to the ground.
"Diamond Storm!" she declared. A cloud of spikes materialised above her head and she threw them towards the digimon, causing both to shatter and revert to digi-eggs.
Akira gave Renamon one of her blink-and-you’ll-miss-it smiles, one of her rare lapses into affection. “Great job, Renamon,” she told her partner and best friend, her eyes showing something strange. She turned away before anyone could see what she knew her eyes would betray.
She studied Luna and Rydia, standing by their Digimon partners, from under lowered lashes. Neither they nor their partners showed any sign of injury. She knew that her constant checks to make sure everyone was alright were strange, but they were her team, the closest thing she had to a family now.
She turned to study Jake, the sole male member of their team. Standing beside Gabumon, he was doing the same as Akira, checking everyone for injury. Akira knew that Jake took his unofficial role as leader very seriously, and that if anything happened to any of them, he would beat himself up, thinking it to be his own fault.
When his eyes turned to her, their eyes met. Akira mouth twitched into something resembling a smile. “So, what’s the situation with Bakemon?” she asked, her voice returning to its brisk self.
"Many suffer from the incurable disease of writing, and it becomes chronic in their sick minds." —Juvenal (AD 60-130)
"Not good," Jake replied. "I don't know how he's doing it, but most of the digimon in this forest is under his control."
"How is that possible?" Rydia asked. "It's just a Bakemon. It's only a champion level and doesn't have any kind of powers to control other digimon."
Gabumon looked up at his tamer. "Maybe the digimon of this forest are being affected by something else? Maybe Bakemon is being controlled by something just like everyone else?"
"That may be a possibility, a scary one at that," Jake said. "Either way, we have to stop Bakemon. He's the one causing the most damage to this sector."
Akira grabbed her digivice and called Haruka. "We found Jake, what's our next objective?"
"I'm picking up Bakemon's signature, he's about half a mile north from your current position," Haruka said. "Find him and take him out. Once that's done, secure his digiegg and wait for evac."
"You heard her," Jake told everyone, "let's go find Bakemon."

As they all headed north towards Bakemon's location, Akira fell behind the group to scout behind them. Renamon fell into step behind her. "You're worried," Renamon said, not a question.
Akira sighed. "Bakemon shouldn't be able to possess other digimon. No Bakemon has been able to do that before, and this one shouldn't be able to. That lends to Gabumon's theory that something is controlling the all of the digimon in this area."
"You're afraid of the unknown, then?" Renamon asked.
"Yes, very," Akira answered. They continued on the trek in silence, until Akira's ears picked up a noise behind them in the trees. Glancing back, she yelled ahead, "Digimon in the air!" she shouted up ahead.
"Many suffer from the incurable disease of writing, and it becomes chronic in their sick minds." —Juvenal (AD 60-130)
Everyone stopped and turned around, readying themselves for an ambush. A white figure flew out of one of the trees and charged Akira. Renamon had seen the attack, and moved in to protect her tamer. "Diamond Storm!" A cloud of spikes materialized over her head. She swung her arms forward, sending the spikes into the white figure.
The digimon that had tried to attack them was knocked to the ground by the attack. Now they could all see what it was. "Bakemon!" Luna shouted. "Salamon, attack!"
"Petit Bite!" Salamon jumped onto the digimon and sunk its teeth into its soft, sheet-like skin.
"Howling Blaster!" Salamon got out of the way in time before Gabumon's blue fire hit Bakemon.
"Vee Headbutt!" Veemon lunged at the digimon, landing the final blow with his rock-hard skull. The force of the attack sent Bakemon flying into a tree. They had defeated the target digimon.
"That was too easy!" Rydia shouted, positively joyed.
"Yes, that was too easy," Jake said. His voice was a little more worried than it should have been. "Why hasn't he turned back into a digiegg?"
Bakemon's body suddenly flashed with a brilliant light. His body lost its colour and turned into a polygon of thin green lines.
"What's it doing?" Luna asked.
Jake made a little 'tch' sound as he said, "It's digivolving!"
The green lines reformed into another shape that closely resembled the shape of a human body. With another flash of light, the digimon had finished its digivolution. Their new enemy was a Myotismon.
(If someone writes the finishing post of the battle, don't turn Myotismon into a digiegg just yet. I need to post his final words. It's important to the storyline.)

Akira looked up, her mind racing. How was Bakemon able to digivolve into Myotismon? This defeated all of the rules of Digimon that the Data Squad had taught her.
Since logical thought was out the window, Akira just turned coolly and yelled out to Renamon. "Renamon, attack!"
Renamon jumped in the air. "Diamond Storm!" She flipped the spikes at Myotismon.
Myotismon grinned cruelly and held up his hand. All of the spikes disappeared.
"Grisly wing!" he called. Bats flew from him and attacked Renamon, causing her to cry out in pain.
"Renamon!" Akira yelled as the bats attacked her digimon. She started to run forward to her, but someone pulled her back.
"Howling blaster!" Gabumon yelled, directing the attack at the cloud of bats attacking Renamon, disinegrating most of them. Akjira looked back. It was Luna that held her shirt.
Akira ran to the hurt Renamon as Veemon lunged at Myotismon. "Vee Headbutt!"
At the same time, Gabumon directed another attack at Myotismon. "Howling Blaster!"
Salamon chipped in with "Petit Bite!" and lunged for Myotismon, teeth bared.
Myotismon knocked away the attacks like childrens playthings. Akira scowled. This might be bad.

Gabumon charged the vampire digimon. "Horn Attack!" He jumped, his horn pointing at his opponent. Myotismon backhanded the little wolf digimon, sending it spiraling to the ground.
"Gabumon!" Jake ran to help his digimon, but movement from the enemy caused him to stop.
"Grisly Wing!" Another swarm of bats came from Myotismon, this time directed at Jake.
Jake shielded his face with his arms as the swarm of bats closed in. There was nothing he could do to stop the oncoming attack. In a last act of desperation, he called to his digimon. "Gabumon!"
The digivice at his waist flashed with a sudden burst of light. The light turned into a beam and hit Gabumon. Jake felt a rush of wind pass his body as the constant chattering of bats ceased. He opened his eyes and dropped his arms to see a large wolf digimon standing in front of him. The ground around the digimon was riddled with bats. The wolf digimon had stopped the attack. The digimon turned its head to look at Jake.
Jake knew those eyes. He could never mistake the eyes of his partner. "...Gabumon?"
"Salamon." Luna commanded. How could Bakemon digivolve? She thought angrily.
Salamon nodded and lunged at Myotismon, turning in the air to that she was now backwards, "Sala Paw!" Salamon yelled and kicked the vampire digimon in the chest, causing him to lose his balance and stumble backwards.
(Just because I want to keep the storyline interesting, I'm going to speed this up a bit.)
Myotismon snarled at the little digimon and snatched it up with one hand. Salamon cried out as the vampire digimon squeezed.
"Freeze Fang!" Garurumon jumped in and sank his teeth into the digimon's arm. Myotismon cried out in pain as Garurumon's teeth dug into his skin, sending waves of chilling frost through his body. It forced him to drop Salamon.
Myotismon punched the wolf digimon in the face causing him to let go. "Grisly Wi-"
"Vee Headbutt!" Before Myostismon could launch his attack Veemon slammed headfirst into his chest, causing him to stumble.
"Diamond Storm!" Renamon sent a spray of icicle spears to hit Myotismon. The ice shards shattered upon impact, some piercing the vampire digimon's body.
"Blue Blaster!" Garurumon opened his mouth and blew a stream of icy blue fire at Myotismon. The flames engulfed his body, so cold that they burned and seared. When the flames dissipated Myotismon collapsed.
"Did we defeat it this time?" Luna asked.
"Looks that way," Jake answered.
Myotismon let out a ragged breath as he struggled to lift his head to face the tamers. In a strangled voice he said, "You cannot stop the inevitable. Yggdrasil's will is the will of all digimon!" The digimon let out one more breath before his body shattered in a spray of pixels and turned into a digiegg.
(Just so you know, Yggdrasil is the supercomputer that monitors the digital world. It's to the digital world what God is to the real world, basically. Commander Sampson will tell the characters about it once they get back to HQ. If you want to read up on it, check out this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yggdrasil_%28Digimon%29 )
