Once the horses had a chance to drink and they refilled their flasks, they made their way down the stream until they reached a lake. The lake was just as the name implied, as clean and clear as a crystal. The full moon reflected perfectly on the water's surface.

As the others made a camp fire and got ready for bed Luke stood by the water's edge, gazing out into the crystalline lake. Raven came to him a few minutes after they set up camp. "What're you doing over here?"

"Just thinking," Luke said.

"There's something I've been meaning to ask you," Raven said.

Luke turned his head to look at her. "And that is?"

"Back in the cave when we were fighting the Husk something happened to your weapon. At first I thought you were just using your magic to surround it with electricity, but then I realized it was something else when it changed size. What was that power you used?" Raven asked.

Luke closed his eyes and let out a long sigh. "I do not know. It was spontaneous, the power. It needed a place to go, and when I took my sword it rushed down my arm and into the blade." He opened his eyes then. "It has never happened to me before."

"Do you have any idea what it was?" Raven asked.

Luke bent down to pick up a pebble and started rolling it in his hand. "I have heard of events in the past where men of battle were given the power to defeat their enemies, but once the battle was over the power was gone. They did not call upon the power, or even knew where it came from in the first place. I believe these momentary rushes of power are gifts from our ancestors."

"What do you mean?" Raven asked.

"The human race was not always like this," Luke told her. "We used to live in metal cities with houses that reached the clouds. We even had chariots that could fly, or so I've heard. The Husks themselves are proof of our history because they are creations of man. Some of our ancestors used them as servants, others as soldiers to fight in wars. The race of man had, indeed, lived life in the utmost of luxury."

"What does that have to do with what happened in the cave?" Raven asked.

"Our ancestors ran tests and experiments on other humans in an attempt to augment their own abilities, to make them stronger. It is a possibility that this is why we can use magic. What happened in the cave was most likely a side effect of the experiments our ancestors preformed that lasted through generations. More powers may come in time." Luke looked at Raven again. "We have all been growing in strength, whether we know it or not."

"So, whatever happened to our ancestors?" Raven asked.

Luke sighed. "No one knows for certain. Some say our ambitions finally found their limits and society crumbled. Others say we forgoed the need for technology and degraded back into ancient times." He threw the pebble he was holding into the lake. "Whatever the reason, this proves that the more mankind rely on technology, the more problems we will have to face."

The ground began to rumble. As if by reflex Luke unsheathed his sword and readied himself. Something was coming.

"What's going on!?" Raven yelled.

"Something bad is coming," Luke told her.

As if on cue, a gigantic serpent-like creature rose out of the lake. It's screech piercing the night.

Another boss? =)

Raven

I flinched as the screech rendered my ears painfully out of function. The horses, tied to some trees a short distance from the lake began to panic, adding their own sounds to the previously peaceful night.

"What is that thing?" Warren demanded, backing away from the water.

"A Leviathan," Luke replied worriedly. The creature shook its serpentile head and advanced towards us slowly, the mouth opening in a sadistic grin to reveal large, jagged fangs.

"I'm going to freeze the lake," I lum decided and he pointed at the vast pool of water. His brows furrowed in concentration as the liquid began to freeze, spreading from the shore towards the monster.

Ilum unsheathed his sword and created ice at the tip, "Warren, sling shot!" Warren waved his arms around lifting Ilum off the ground. With another violent gesture he was sent hurdling at the creature.

He cut alongside It and landed in the water behind it. Has He brought his hand up out of the water he froze it to create a platform. He knelt there starring at the beast. Something moved under him. The beast's tail came crashing out of the water sending Ilum flying.

Karana

"Ilum!" I screamed when he was thrown back into the waves. There went my own plan.

If I could just load a considerable amount of electricity into the water, we might have an opportunity to slay this thing! But as long as Ilum was in my line of fire...I couldn't do it! I couldn't hurt him!

I pulled out my bow again, and fixed three bolts to it at once. Maybe this would work...I flood the weapons with fire magic, until the heads glowed dangerously. If I could just get a shot and hit it...

I fired, and the arrows soared. Two of the three didn't make it all the way across the lake's radius, but the last one bounced off of the leviathan's scales. I hadn't made a scratch!

I had no other choice.

"Warren! Get Ilum out of there!" I yelled, throwing my weapon aside. "I want to try something, but get him out of the water!"

Ilum felt himself flung out of the water and landed head first on the beach. He coughed sand out of his mouth yelling at Warren. Turning he saw Karana focus he power into electricity and sending it into the water. The beast shrieked out and dove back under water.

"Did I kill it?"

"No," Ilum stood up, "You only pissed it off."

As if he had said a magic word the creature shot up and shot water at Karana through it's mouth. Ilum jumped to catch her and was send flying back. The beast went to attack again, but Ilum formed an ice shield around the two of them.

(This is what Level 3 magic should look like. I would also like to announce that I am officially a Master of the Forum! All your base are belong to us, run home.)

Luke watched as Karana and Ilum were thrown back by the creature's jet stream. If they were going to beat this monstrosity they were going to have to use a little more than a jolt of electricity.

Luke focused all his magic into one attack and sent a beam of electricity into the clouds. In seconds the clouds darkened and began to grow in thickness. Bolts of lightning began shooting out of the cloud in all directions. The largest of all the bolt struck the mighty serpent in the head.

The Leviathan let out a pain-filled screech as it fell back into the lake. After a few seconds it came back to the surface and let out an ear-piercing scream, its fins stretched out as far as they could to show its anger. Luke had done some damage alright, but not enough to kill it.

Raven

The creature surfaced again, drawing its thick, leathery lips back in a wide grimace as it raised the tip of its tail out of the water.

"Let's combine powers," Karana suggested, stepping towards Luke who began to nod. Then the creature's tail lashed across the land, faster and more dangerous than any lightening they could conjour. It split the ground beneath our feet, creating a channel that was rapidly filled with water from the lake and seperating us. On one side of the ravine were Ilum, Karana and Warren. On the other, Luke and me.

"Do it now!" Luke commanded and they attacked the Leviathan from both sides - Luke aiming for the sky and Karana the water. At first it writhed and screeched but it did not hide and then it charged down the channel - too close for Luke to continue his attack - and slithered out of the water. It turned and slithered towards Luke, fangs bared and tail poised. I stepped closer to him, raising my mace with the hope that some sort of defence could be mustered.

(That's seven posts so far. Eight more to go before we can finish it off.)

The giant serpent lunged its head like a cobra and brought its fangs down on the two. Luke and Raven managed to jump out of the way before they were caught in the Leviathan's jaws. Its head smashed into the earth, breaking the ground and ripping up soil.

As it brought its head back up to attack again, Luke felt something strange. Seeing the earth ripped up by the creature caused something to stir within him, something familiar.

Luke got to his feet and readied his magic. Instead of using it to conjure electricity, he spread his power through the ground around him, grabbing the earth with his magic. The earth began to crack and rumble around him as his magic pulled rock and stone out of the ground.

With a flick of his wrist, rocks shot out of the earth and smashed into the Leviathan's head. The creature screeched as a small trail of blood rolled down the side of its snake-like face.

Luke's knees suddenly became weak. He collapsed to the ground and began heaving for air.

Raven came to his side. "Luke! Are you alright?"

Luke replied with a breathy, "Too... tired..."

Raven

I bent over Luke, reaching for his arm.

"Raven!" Karana screeched and I looked over my shoulder to see the Leviathan returning for round two. Suddenly its body swayed in a huge gust of wind and a light dousing of fire danced across its scales. The creature snorted and seemed to decide that the threat from our side was over, turning instead to face the others.

I hurriedly knelt down next to Luke and turned him onto his side before laying my hand firmly on top of his and delving into the fabric of his very being. What I sensed was a great weariness and a sort of emptiness as if he had drained himself. I pushed my magic into him but the void rejected it and I realised only his own power could fill that hold. Instead, I concentrated on his physical form - a few scratches and a strong case of exhaustion that I could only partially decrease.

Ilum cursed under his breath as the creature turned toward them. Warren and Karana both readied them selves for when it was going to attack. Ilum looked at his hand forming ice around it. If Luke could do that then...
Placing his hand on the ground he focused on the creature.

Ice began to form at the monsters lower body. Soon there was enough ice to stop it from moving. "Now Warren, compressed your air and fire!"

Warren clapped his hands together and drew them back. Slowly pressurized wind began to form at his palms. He brought his arms forward sending a large ball of spinning air at the beast. It hit him square in the chest and sent it flying back into the water breaking the ice.

"Is it dead yet?"

Ilum stood up slowly panting. Looking at Warren he seemed exhausted too. "No, I don't think so. Stay on your toes."

Karana

"Try and conserve some of your energy. We don't know how long this thing can withstand - huh?"

I cut off my sentence as something felt horribly wrong. I could sense it.

It hadn't resurfaced, but it was coming. I knew it. Then, as if on cue, it leapt from the water right beside us, mouth gaping as it moved towards us.

"Move!" I managed to leap away as it bit into the earth where I had been standing. Ilum and Warren were on either side of its head. It snarled as it lifted its head again, moving to strike again...

I growled, focusing a magic into a swirling mass of fire thrice the size of my head. Now all it had to do was roar, and I could thrust this thing into its mouth!

It opened it jaws, inhaling deeply, and I threw it.

(Don't forget, you have advanced magic spells now. Of course, you can only use them once a day and if you use them you'll end up like Luke. Also, only four more posts to go before this thing is dead. Keep up the good work and I may shorten the length of the battle.)

The mighty serpent screamed as the inside of its mouth was scorned by Karana's fire. It whipped its head back and forth, as if trying to lessen the burning pain.

This gave everyone a chance to regroup. Warren, Ilum and Karana climbed over the torn up rocks and soil to get to Luke and Raven.

"What's wrong with Luke?" Ilum asked.

"I don't know," Raven told him as she held Luke's head in her lap. "He used a magic spell I hadn't seen him use before tonight and he was completely drained of energy."

"Well, whatever that spell was it was pretty strong," Warren said. "None of use were able to draw blood from the creature before he did."

Luke groaned as his eyes slowly began to open. "Luke! Are you alright?" Raven asked, worriedly.

Luke's eyes went wild as his stare went over Raven's shoulder. "Look out!" Everyone looked back to see the Leviathan crawling back out of the lake toward them. A blinding blue light began to grow from its mouth. Luke quickly got back to his feet. "Run, you fools!" They did as they were told and scattered in all directions. Luke and Raven went one way, Ilum and Karana went the other, and Warren ran off on his own.

A blast of blue electricity shot out of the creature's mouth like a cannon. The energy exploded as it hit the ground, throwing everyone off their feet. The blast left a crater in the earth the size of the Leviathan itself. Once the smoke and dust from the attack settled everyone was, once again, separated. Warren found himself face-to-face with the mighty serpent...

Lol. Sasquash hasn't posted in ages!

Raven

I scrambled to my knees, raising my head to see the Leviathan bearing down on Warren.

"Help!" he called, holding both long swords out before him. He crossed the blades in some attempt to shield his body. I cast my gaze around for the others. Luke was still grounded, too tired to get up and Karana and Ilum were much too far away. What could I do? I began to run but even as I did, I knew I would never make it in time. The Leviathan opened its mouth, sharp fangs descending towards Warren.

Ilum stood starring as Warren was dodging for his life. Placing a hand upon his head he tried to think. Karana yelled something before running after the beast. Ilum stayed put in deep thought thinking as of how to kill the beast. Raising his sword he gave a smile. All I got

Bringing the sword behind him ice slowly began to creep down the blade and out. It wasn't long until it had tripled in size, but still it grew. Everything, everything I got.

Ilum broke into a run at the creature roaring like a beast. The Leviathan looked at him and brought it's tail down. Just dodging Ilum jumped up onto the tail and began running up it. Once at the top he leaped into the air bringing the sword down like a hammer. The Leviathan's head was sent flying to the ground, but still had enough strength to hit Ilum out of the air sending him through a tree.

Karana

I hesitated; the leviathan was rising slowly, writhing in pain. Ilum had left a deep gash on the top of its head.

I froze. Ilum.

Where was Ilum?

"Ilum?" I called, moving away from the beast as it slowly recovered. It may have been a fool movement, but what if he was hurt? What if he was unconscious? I had to find him, to make sure he was okay. "Ilum!"

And I found him. He was barely moving, stunned at the base of the tree; cuts were all over his arms, and more blood oozed from a cut beneath his eye. I ran to him, putting my hands against his chest as he tried to get up.

"Easy," I breathed, relieved that he was alive but near panicking because I didn't know how badly he was hurt.
