Hello
Maybe this has been pointed out a dozen times before but...getting published is hard
It is HARD! You just never know what they want. I mean I will get excited to see an email from a publishing company until I discover that it is a regret!...it has been years now and I am still getting regrets. This time I submitted a novel into a local writing competition. I'm not even hoping for much...Anyways, someone just please tell me, what do these people want?

Plain and simple? Good writing.

Spend a lot of time making your first few paragraphs perfect, as those tend to be what the whole manuscript is judged upon.

This thread in Writing Tips offers publishing advice.
A writer is a world trapped in a person— Victor Hugo

Ink is blood. Paper is bandages. The wounded press books to their heart to know they're not alone.

I tell the neophyte: Write a million words–the absolute best you can write, then throw it all away and bravely turn your back on what you have written. At that point, you’re ready to begin.
— David Eddings
