It went something like this: "Yes! I have money! ... Oh, shoot, now what should I spend it on? XD"
Books are a no brainer, but which books? After much internal debate and general indecisiveness, I decided to see if I could get some input from all the lovely folks here on YWS.
Any ideas/recommendations/whatever?
What I'm looking for:
I'm looking for something fantasy/sci-fi/steampunk-ey, I think.
Something clean. Vulgarity will be grumpily tolerated if neccesary, as will graphic sexual content (<- the latter will be met with significant grumpiness). I realize it might be hard to find an epically amazing fantasty/sci-fi/whatever book that doesn't have people swearing up and down and sleeping around... But that's all the more reason for you to suggest one if you know of one! 8D Violence... Violence will be met with enthusiasm. >:) lol
If fantasy, then preferably high fantasy, or if not high fantasy then at the very least GOOD fantasy. I've grown rather tired of the constant stream of vampire/fairy/whatever urban fantasy etc... (Not saying they aren't good, just saying that I'd like to spend the giftcard on something really new, and not the kind of book I usually skim past in the library).
In general, I'd like something where romance is more of a side note than the whole shebang. I rather like romance, but I'd also be thrilled with large, epic plots. Twists. The more elaborate and mind-boggling the better. >.<
Right now, steampunk is sounding very attractive, so... If you've got any suggestions when it comes to those... Yay!
Oh, and also, I've had a little temptation for fantasy/medeival-times nonfiction reference book type stuff. There's not much of a chance of me - a penny-pincher at heart - spending my money on them in a local bookstore (I actually don't buy books that often. Just get them at the library, etc.) so now might be a good time to get some... Any suggestions there?
There are a few possibilities I've considered already. Good books I've already read but might like to own, like Graceling by Kristin Cashore, or Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. Also, the first books in series that I somehow ended up owning the sequel in and not the first one. Books I've heard good things about but I'm not quite ready to buy myself...
I'm really seriously considering buying Beheamoth (the sequel to Leviathan). They're such good steampunk-ey books, with amazing art, and I'm actually quite a fan of gender-benders for whatever reason... XD And basically I'm really thinking of getting it. Except I don't have the first book, and it's kinda relatively new, so it might be cheaper later (not that it matters, self, because you don't usually buy books anyway) and they're going to get it in our library soon... But I really want to own something by Scott Westerfeld at some point, and Beheamoth... I'm really severely tempted.
As you might have been able to tell from my rambling, I'm an indecisive person who has no idea what to do with her lovely prize money. XD
Help? 8D
