As midnight creeps
As a part of the world blissfully sleeps
He steps out of his sanctuary effete
the night being his allegiant shield.
A sadistic smile plays 'round those lips bloodless
His sapphire eyes malevolent, merciless.
This apparition of Adonis with perversity unparalled
Scours the countryside isolated
In the quest of a prey unescorted.
Suddenly there appeared:
A dame virtuous and fair
Lost and disoriented she seemed.
Betraying anxiety and dread
A strange foreboding eating her chest
A prayer on her lips deep set
She jaunted forward with a hesitant step
The night, wild and unbridled
proclaimed the game of chase and survival.
The predator surveyed his prey, his victim
Anticipation writ on his features Grecian.
As wily as a cat,
As agile as a hare
He charged towards her with lightning speed
hardly leaving her time
to ingest this spectacle
nefarious and bizarre
In a pool of blood
The casualty lay.
And the night regained its countenance
Placid and sedate.
The fire quenched
The frenzied passion subdued
The creature of night
Returns to his haunt
Only to materialize
When darkness dawns..
