This is what my MC's Grandfathers dining room looks like.Image

“Well I think I will leave you to it then Hikaru,” My grandpa nodded and a single maid who brought in a big red box. “I knew it was your birthday Hikaru so I got you a little something,” my grandpa left me alone with my present the maids curtsied and left as well, as soon as the door shut behind them I opened the big red box to find a small black puppy probably a black lab mixed with some other breed of dog, it hopped out of the box, onto my lap, and licked my face clean. Also hanging in my room was a rusted short rapier probably sometime from the 14th century, I played with it for hours playing fetch or tug-a-war. I tried on all the clothes that were on my bed I was used to Target, Walmart, and JCPenny not some Italian brand with the latest trends. Then a knock occurred on my door and my grandpa proceeded to enter, “Dinner is in an hour, if you’re hungry flying always starved me.”

“Ok thanks! I’ll be down in a bit,” my grandpa started to leave, “wait!” I said quickly.

“Thank you, grandpa.” He smiled ant turned back into my room, he sat down on my bed, and petted my new puppy.

“Your welcome Hikaru I see you have been enjoying my gifts?”

“Ye, yes sir.”

“ There’s no need to be proper son just because we are in Italy you don’t need to” he tried to finish before I interrupted him.

“Italy! All this time I’ve been in Italy! I thought we were in Germany or Greece of Paris or something, but Italy I’ve always wanted to come here!”

“Oh I know”

“ You bought a villa in Italy for me?”

“ Of course I have villas everywhere in Europe.”

“ yo- wha- wha- Really?”

“Of course our entire family is from here besides it’s so beautiful I can’t leave even If a try. There’s something about this place that’s well let’s say magical.”

Dinner was nice, we had every food I could even name and even more! The dining room was gorgeous it had gold and red designs on the walls and two different doors leading into into the room. It had dark red curtains laced with gold and candles were lit all around the room. During every meal there was a small orchestra of older teenagers. I was there for weeks always going places having fun swimming in his own private part of the ocean, sometimes I forget my parents aren’t here with me I’m so glad I live with my grandpa instead of some orphanage waiting to be adopted by some other family. Sometimes me and grandpa will go to a show on broad way on his private jet or a trip to the Eiffel tower, or maybe even to the pyramids where ever we went we always some sorta special passes to a VIP tour or when some important part of world history is closed we can go in anyways.

One night grandpa was sitting at his desk in the main living room. A room lined with gold and red curtains, “Grandpa?”

“Yes Hikaru?”

“I need to confess to you, I treated my parents like someone I hated I was rude and cruel to them when they had given so many things and cared and loved so much for me. And now their gone I wish I could have a second chance, I wish they were here with me now with you and me forever, one big happy family,” tears rolled down my face as I told him this he was staring at me like he was disappointed he sat up came towards bent down and reached his hand towards me.

“Hikaru, I love you more than you can imagine,” he wiped my tears away helped me up and hugged me just as I did to him the first time I was here. “Hikaru, I think I should show you something.” He walked over to his work desk, opened a drawer, and pulled out the little gold pocket watch my father got me, “I’m not sure if your father has given you this yet he handed it too me.”

“He has, but how did you get it now I thought it was at my burned down house,” I said still crying.

“Well I had my men look around for it I didn’t want to lose it or miss out on teaching you. Good than you should already know about its extremely powerful wonders,” He answered.

“You mean to tell me that it’s real? And it can actually travel through time?”

“Of course it can, I don’t think your dad was trying to pull a birthday prank on you!” He laughed silently.

“Well he told me what it does not how to do it.”

“Well great then this will be my second time teaching someone,” He replied.

“You mean you’ll actually teach me how to travel through time?”

“Why not? I had fun doing it with your father it should be fun again.”

“Great! What are we waiting for!”

“You mean you want to do it now, Hikaru its one in the morning,” he did that evil chuckle of his again.

“Anything to get my parents back grandpa, anything,” the word raced around in my mind, “anything, anything, anything, anything,” again and again. I thought to myself silently would I do anything to get them back would give the world? I would, just to see them for one small minute. They gave life to me, they did everything for me they loved more than I could imagine. And I love them for that but I made them do more than they needed too. I felt terrible like the world was going to end because of me, and only I can stop it, I felt like Atlas the Greek titan holding the world on his back. One slip and we all die. As I thought this tears came rolling out of my eyes and I couldn’t stop them. My grandpa was still looking at the pocket watch sitting down by the fire once again.

“Aww! Here we are!” My grandfather said in a grim, scratchy voice. He opened the front of the watch, and turned back the hands from one month before today.

“I don’t understand, I tried doing that on my birthday and nothing happened, they didn’t move.” I said

“Someone has to teach you first Hikaru,” he said in his old man voice. He handed me the golden piece of junk my dad got me. “Hold on Hikaru.” To what? I thought to myself then a flash of green fire burned me to ashes. But before I knew it I was home on my birthday just getting up from bed.

Unbelievable! It worked! I travelled through time! I hustled down the stairs as I heard my parents in the kitchen, I burst into where they were at, completely out of breath. Sighing, I managed to spit out some of the two words I told my parents before they died, “Oh good morning parents!” I said happily. I never called them that, “parents,” only mom, or dad. I went through all the things I did the morning I lost them. I opened the present, I let my dad teach me how to time travel, I also fixed our fuse box that was broken that burned down my house. I was late for school, Again (If you ask me the best part of that morning was missing school.) So, as I did before I headed home, no cop cars, all kids I saw outside before were inside doing boring old school work except my class they went to the dumb old pasta factory, the only difference was seeing a ambulance go down the road that I was walking on. The sirens were blasting on and off, on and off, on and off (it was quite annoying from my point of view.) I got home as fast I could and thankfully my house was NOT burned down this time. I busted down our front door to make sure my parents were home, I yelled there mom and dad over and over again and again. I headed upstairs, and there they were, covered in each of their own blood, bullet holes through their heads and guts. Our house was trashed there were footsteps of blood all over the house from the killer of my parents. I went down on my knees and cried for hours. They were gone for the second time, They are dead for the second time, they don’t exist for the second time. The only other people who knew about time travelling was my family and the only people who are aware of the time travelers time jump (that’s what it was called when you travel through time) was my grandfather. Again I went back to his house and told him what has happened again to me. He told me that he had met me before I came to live with him (the first time) he said I had already tried to save my parents 69 times. And that it was destiny that they die. I asked him why I didn’t remember it he told me that my father taught me how but not the right way. My father taught the incorrect way. “Great then I’ll keep trying until they DO come back!”

“Not such a good idea,” my grandpa managed to get out.

“What do you mean not such a good idea?” I wondered.

“Well you see, we can only time jump 70 times, then you can pass it one to your children.” He answered me.

“What! You mean to tell me that I can only time jump 70 times! Why didn’t you stop me before!” I said in anger.

“I tried, but you didn’t listen,” he replied.

“Why only 70 times?” Then my mind was racing, only 70 times.

“Because, the first Hikaru Tomoko was number 70! Just like how you are number one,” he answered. Then I thought to myself only 70 times. What would I spend my last time jump on? Something important incase our house gets burned down also? Nope that would probably just be destiny. Maybe I’ll save it and give my future son an extra time jump. You never know when you might need an extra one just like I do. “This is insane,” I thought to myself. Only 70 time jumps! It should be unlimited! I feel so alone like there is a hole in my heart, my biggest part of life is gone forever and its destiny. They are never coming back, and I will never see them again, I feel no point in living anymore. What’s a twelve year old boy without his parents? Nothing, an orphan, I feel like I don’t exist anymore, that other people feel this way but I’m just not important for their precious time. Better I die then me I treated them bad, not them what did they do to deserve this? It should be me up there in heaven. I did everything wrong. Not them. My grandpa told me that I have to do all 70 time jumps by the time I’m 27 year old if I don’t it will be like I never existed anymore. Wait! That would save my parents if I never existed then if I never played with our fuse box on April fool’s day (by the way, I played with it so we wouldn’t be able to turn on our electric fire place.) Then the house would not have burned down so then I would be able to save them! But not for another 13 years. I can’t wait that long, 13 years, what am I supposed to do until then? It’s too bad I can’t jump forward in time. I starred back at my grandpa, with tears rolling down my face. This is what it must feel like when god saw Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit, and if it wasn’t for them there would be no sin in the world.

One year passed since then. A year of sorrow, or anger, and of sadness, one year of grief. I never once smiled since then. I still went on those mini vacations around the world with my grandpa. But nothing ever cheered me up. My dog Gracie(that’s what I named her, after my mother) Is growing big and strong, we would always play fetch or tug-a-war or some dog game. Every day all I would do is sit around the house or go on walks all around the property that I lived on, Gracie would always tag along. I think she could sense my sadness or something because when I’m feeling really down she’s always there to comfort me. My Grandpa would always do things with me maybe sometimes he’ll go on my walk with me or just be there when I need him. I was thirteen now. In that year of agony and pain I managed to save up some of my own money to visit my old home town, to see some of my old friends. I didn’t want to use my grandpas money because this is something I wanted to do myself.

On the way back to my home town, Johnston, on the private jet my mind was thinking about my parents, not about anything that’s probably going on in my home town in Iowa. When I got off the jet I walked about 20 miles to my old house. It was for sale, it looked just like it did when I lived there in fact I thought about buying this house. But maybe not it might bring back to many memories or sadness and sorrow. But I did live here and I liked the area, so I did. I started moving in the house in about 2 months from when I bought it. It was good to be back I even smiled more and more every day I did miss living with my grandpa though. He still comes to visit a couple times each month. It does me good to see him, it brings back the memories of our trips and vacations. I loved him so. Even more than my parents. I never talked or thought about them anymore. My head soon filled with love and compassion, I gave half of my money to the Children’s Hospital in gilberta they need it more than I do. They need more money to help the kids than I need to buy a Nuclear bomb. Where ever I went I always road the same skateboard I had for three years or walked. That day I went to the Johnston skate park where me and my friends would always mess around. I remember the first time I went there I was with my mom and my little sister, I looked like one of those skate wanna-bes. But after going there for five hours whenever it’s hot out gets you into practice and good shape. Never slept very good until I skated much which for sure wore me down. So that was my day to day life skate and argue with my parents and skate. My friends and I would always skate around the college university here in Johnston, it was a lot of fun because of all of the obstacles (Humans.) All the kids at the skate park were pretty rebellious, they would do things like drugs of even lose their virginity at such an age that I am at.

I decided to walk all around town, relive the sights and maybe even see some of my old friends again, of course I’m not going to tell them all about me time jumping and stuff other wise they would just think I’m crazy. I went into City Hall to check out if they have any jobs available, because starting to think that I’ll get a job here as a desk helper or something. Since I thought i’m going to be living here for a while I thought I might as well buy some stores. So I bought Target, Walmart, and a resturaunt called Black Market Pizza only in Johnston. It was so good to be back. I invited my grandpa to come and live with me, and so he did. We were so happy here, so peaceful, so quiet, and so relaxing. I woke up this morning to hear the words “Happy Birthday!” from my grandpa. He got me a new jet black Ferrari. The engine roared like a lion. a year ago exactly, my parents died. They left this world for another, always gone, always sad. I had fun with grandpa though. We went to New York for the weekend and saw the play on “Mamma Mia” on broad way. Again we went on our little vacations in Europe or Africa. The only thing that matters to me now is being with my grandpa. As long we are together I’m happy. I always thought It would be cool if I could time travel forward in time.

I can only imagine traveling INTO the future. Incredible would be amazing I could get rich from betting on horse races or boxing or something. But impossible I thought to myself, I mean I think my grandpa would have told me. That got me thinking. Is he not telling me something? Is it a secret or forbidden? I’ll ask him. “Hey Grandpa, can I talk to you for a little bit?

“Sure Hikaru, How may I help you?” He answered.

“Umm is it at all possible to time travel forward in time?” His face went grim.

“Yes, yes it is.” He said sadly.

“Really!” I cried.

“Yes but Hikaru you must listen to me, it is forbidden to do so!”

“But just imagine all the money you could have.” I said greedily.

“Hikaru! Listen to me! This is forbidden, you think It didn’t cross my mind! Well it did! And I am, I am rich that’s how I got all my money.”He barked.

“What? You did it? You did something you are telling me not to do!?

“Yes, I broke the guidelines. I did it, and I am so unhappy with myself.”

“You?! You did it! You who taught me all about time jumping.”

When I left from arguing with my grandpa missed a train so I rode my bike around town, I rode up on the wall right by a busy street. There was a 2 foot wall beside dividing me from the road, I popped a tire on a sharp rock, my bike started to swerve side to side, the front tire hit the small wall and I fell off onto the road. If today was your last day would you make all you can of it? If I didn’t argue with my grandpa I never would have missed train or a cab, I never would have died, It is my fault now. I’m dead just like my parents. I was sorta happy about it now that I will be with them. Right before I hit the ground I time jumped, so far back I went all the way into the past from prehistoric time to medieval times, Revolutionary time, Civil War time, WW1, WW2, Vietnam, Japan, the assassination of JFK ,Obama becoming president, to the assassination of the assassin Osama Bin Laden, I had travelled through all the time periods in the world. Then I was in a field of grass as far as the eye could see. A mans voice was the first thing i heard, just like my fathers voice, he said to me, “Welcome Hikaru i've been expecting you for some time now my friend." I turned around and a younger version of my father. Looked like he was in his mid-20's wearing a black fall coat with a white v-neck underneath, and black jeans. "My name is Hikaru the Great," your really great grandfather.

"You gotta be shitten me." i said in a excited yet nervous tone.

"I beg your pardon?" He asked

"Oh nothing it's just something we say in the present time." I answered.

"Well then, I have summoned you here for your Tomoko test."

"I'm sorry? Did you say test?"

"I did indeed, you see every Tomoko must pass a test in order to come to live here in this paradise only then are they a true time jumper. I must leave now Hikaru. Time, the only unstoppable thing never ending, never beginning and never tempered. But once a generation, Time will stop, at the click of clock. Be careful my friend, this test will not be easy you will have great temptations do not fall into them." He was gone, just like that he was gone.I was teleported back to the street where I had fallen to my death. I looked around to see cars crashed into each other and into the curbs of the road. I could hear abulance's racing here. I got up with a limp and walked away. There was a crowd around me looking at me.

"Did you see that!" a child screamed.

"He should be dead!" another stammered. I ran for it, I ran far and hard. Until I ran into a tall man.

"Sorry sir!" I said in a rushed voice. I ran on until i heard the man speak my name.

"Hikaru?...is that?...is that you?" I turned around and saw the him...I saw my father. I didn't know what to say. Was this a ghost?

"Dad?" I finally squeezed out.

"Yes son it is me. Hikaru I don't have much time I need the pocket watch, now or else your mother and I will never be free." He said in a demanding voice as if he cared more about this piece of junk then he did about me.

I pulled the pocket watch out of my pocket, slid it behind my back, turned the hands, clicked it, and said "Go to hell."

This was an interesting continuation. I liked how he learned how to work the watch, but I think that things went a bit too fast in this chapter. I think that you should slow things down so that we can appreciate this story more. Because this is a cool plot and I would totally read this as an actual novel.

My first thought at the beginning is that I still stand by my idea of putting the last paragraph of chapter 1 as the first paragraph of chapter 2. It just makes more sense, as the start of chapter 2 is basically a continuation of the paragraph in chapter 1.

Throughout this whole chapter, I've found that you need to work on your punctuation. There are several places where you're missing a period or a comma. If you have trouble with that sort of a thing, there are a ton of awesome articles on grammar in the Knowledge Base. They might be of some help.

Also hanging in my room was a rusted short rapier probably sometime from the 14th century, I played with it for hours playing fetch or tug-a-war.

The underlined clause seems out of place with the rest of the paragraph. Because you go from a puppy to a sword and then back to a puppy. At least, I hope that the protagonist wasn't playing fetch and tug-a-war with a sword or using the sword to play fetch or tug-a-war with the puppy. Antique swords are not puppy play toys. So, you might consider moving that to some other part of the scene.

During every meal there was a small orchestra of older teenagers.

This is an odd detail that was never really explained. I'm sure that your protagonist would find a small orchestra of older teenagers to be a strange thing if he was a normal American preteen, but he seems to just accept it as a background feature. Plus, it almost seems as though the grandfather is keeping them as slaves if you don't explain it.

One night grandpa was sitting at his desk in the main living room. A room lined with gold and red curtains, “Grandpa?”

Your main character just suddenly pops into the scene. I would suggest maybe describing what he was doing in relation to the grandfather. Plus, it almost seems as though the room was speaking with the way you set up the dialogue.

he was staring at me like he was disappointed

What is he disappointed in? Sympathy I can understand, but he should know that the protagonist was just a kid and kids always misbehave with their parents.

“He has, but how did you get it now I thought it was at my burned down house,” I said still crying.

You know, I had honestly thought that the protagonist had picked it up when he was back at the house in the later half of chapter one. You might want to go back and add in exactly why he didn't take it.

In that part of the story, you might benefit to actually adding in speech tags to the dialogue, so that your characters aren't floating heads. This is a pretty surprising conversation for your main character, yet it's hard to tell how he's reacting to learning that it really can travel through time.

“Someone has to teach you first Christopher,” he said in his old man voice.

The grandfather really didn't teach Christopher how to use it. He just sent Christopher back in time and that was it.

I would actually like more detail at this point. I think you need to slow the story down at this scene. He just regained his parents, I think that he would react much more powerfully than spitting out normal words. He just had the tear wrenching scene with his grandfather about how he missed his parents, I think he should carry that through this scene. He should be overjoyed and a complete wreck.

“Oh good morning parents!” I said happily. I never called them that, “parents,” only mom, or dad.

I'm not quite sure how this is special. Calling your parents 'parents' is like calling a spoon a 'spoon.' It's something that, while you might not say it in normal use, it doesn't really become that much more special than anything else.

I opened the present, I let my dad teach me how to time travel, I also fixed our fuse box that was broken that burned down my house.

Two things that I would like to point out about this sentence. One, if he let his dad teach him how to time travel then wouldn't he learn about the '70 times only' rule? And two, how did he know how to fix the fuse box?

Beyond that, why doesn't Christopher tell his parents that they died? They know about time travel, we can assume that his dad has time traveled himself, wouldn't his parents be okay with learning that their son had traveled back to stop them from dying?

he said I had already tried to save my parents 69 times. And that it was destiny that they die. I asked him why I didn’t remember it he told me that my father taught me how but not the right way. My father taught the incorrect way.

Okay, now him only remembering going back in the past once makes sense given how the grandfather was the one who did it that time, but now I have some more questions. Why didn't the grandfather teach him the right way after the second time it happened? Why didn't he teach him when he sent the protagonist back in this chapter? Why didn't the kid ever tell his family that they kept dying?

“Because, the first Christopher Sienna was number 70! Just like how you are number one,” he answered.

This part is confusing. How was the ancestor number 70 while the descendent is number 1? And what does that have to do with only time traveling 70 times? This needs some clarification. Other than that, I do kind of like how there is a limit on time travel. It's pretty cool.

My grandpa told me that I have to do all 70 time jumps by the time I’m 27 year old if I don’t it will be like I never existed anymore

This part totally got lost in the wall of text. I say new paragraph and turn this into actual dialogue. I mean, this is an important thing and it can get so easily lost. Beyond that, you need to explain exactly why and how this happens, even if you only know this in your head. How do they know all of this anyway? What were the trials and errors that got them all of this information? That's something that you need to figure out.

I woke up this morning to hear the words “Happy Birthday!” from my grandpa. He got me a new jet black Ferrari. The engine roared like a lion. a year ago exactly, my parents died.

This part is a bit confusing. You say that the protagonist had turned 13 earlier in the story - and I really think that you need to slow that part down instead of having it whizz by - and then here you say that he's turning 13 at this point. If his parents died when he was 12, then a year later he would be 13. Beyond that, 13 year olds can't drive Ferrari's.

I can only imagine traveling INTO the future. Incredible would be amazing I could get rich from betting on horse races or boxing or something.

I think you also need to clarify this part. I'm guessing that you meant travel to the future, see a race and then travel back to the past to place a bet in the present. I think it's a lot more simple to see the results of a race in the present and travel back to the past to place the bet. So, I think you need to clarify this.

Right before I hit the ground I time jumped, so far back I went all the way into the past

I thought he only had one trip left? A bit of an inconsistency here. And after that, things got a bit random.

Seriously, I think that you need to slow this whole chapter down. Take it one scene at a time and give each scene the proper attention. I think that you have too many things shoved into chapter 2 and it's making the story suffer. Take your time with each part and you'll end up with a wonderful story.

I do really like your plot, but this chapter just has too much in it. I think that it could be improved and turned into an awesome story. So good luck with your writing and continue to work on this story, because it's a good story underneath all of the work that needs to be done. PM me if you have any questions. :)
