Chapter 1
Chapter 10
Chapter 12
Its been about 3 and a half weeks since I last changed. I've been feeling sicker each day. Its like I caught a really bad virus. I weakly crawled out of bed and to the bathroom. I avoided looking at my reflection in the window because I knew what I'd see; a sickly looking girl with dark bags under her eyes and wild, knotted hair. I brushed my teeth rapidly and took a quick 5 minute shower. When I jumped out, I couldn't resist the mirror's taunts any longer and wiped the fog that had formed on it's face. Looking into my eyes, I was both shocked and horrified by what I saw. There in front of me stood a girl who's naturally tan skin had turned a freighteningly pale color, dark circles had settled under her eyes, and she looked like she was about to drop dead any second. I looked like crap. Period. There was no doubt about that! I shook my head and got dressed. I wobbily made my way down the stairs and to the kitchen. Something told me that the reason I was like this wasn't because I was sick- Its because I've been resisting the change lately.
The light itching feeling that I felt before I changed had turned into a constant burning. It felt like I was literally on fire at times! But through all that, I began to remember things that I hadn't realized had happened. I could think straight too. The change probably brought out the wolf within me and made it alter my feelings and actions. Like an example was the one time I had the perfect chance to escape, my mind got all twisted and I ended up walking back up to the house. There was also the feeling of whenever I started missing my parents or getting sad, I would suddenly get a happy feeling over nothing that overran the sadness. It was definetely abnormal. Either it was the wolf side of me that was doing this or something else.
The feelings I'd kept balled up inside me about missing my parents and friends rose up to the surface. An ocean of never-ending tears burst out of my eyes. Gut wrenching sobs burst through me, shaking my whole body along with it. The whole situation finally hit me. It always seemed like I was in a dream. I felt like one day I would wake up in my room and life would be how it always was before. I hadn't even had a chance to say goodbye. And what had Sage said that one day about my parents knowing about my situation? They couldn't possibly know. Theres only one way to find that out if what he said was true though. To visit them my self.
I picked up my bookbag and stuffed all the food and water I could find into it along with my couple pairs of clothes, A couple useful, interesting-looking books I'd found on the bookcase, and a blanket. I was about to walk downstairs before I remembered I would probably need matches and my notebook- It'd be a crime to forget those items. It'd be death for me.
I slung the bag over my shoulder and walked down the stairs casually. As I neared the door, it swung wide open and in stepped Silo. It seemed like I hadn't seen him in forever. I eyed him nervously and pretended to be going into the kitchen. He grinned at me freely and said, "How are you? You look like shit by the way."
"Hm, nice way to greet a firl Silo," I replied, trying to act as normal as possible.
He shrugged innocently. "Just saying. Are you sick or anything?" My smile faltered a little and I glued my eyes to the floor.
"No, I just haven't had enough sleep lately..." I fumbled with my bag, pulling out my notebook. I sat in a seat so my back was turned to him and grimaced. This would happen to me! I started up on a new drawing, pretending to be far away in my own world. I could feel his gaze on my back and flinched a little, hoping he hadn't noticed it. After a few more agonizing seconds, he left. I could hear his heavy steps crawling up the stair case. I gulped and waited for a couple more minutes before putting my notebook away and heading once more, to the front door.
This time, no one bothered me as I exited the house, headed straight for the woods. I wouldn't stop until I reach home! I thought, determinedly. I scanned the area, keeping my head low. There was no sign of anyone from my so called 'pack'. They definetely weren't my pack now! I growled under my breath, still angrier than ever. I jogged through the forest, keeping a steady pace. If I ran into one of those Blood Fang pack people, I'd punch them and run. End of story. They were probably made up anyway, staged actors those messed up werewolves paid so I'd stay with their band of freaks. Who knows what they were planning to do if I stayed!
When my lungs were burning so badly that they felt like I might burst and my legs were shaking from the running, I stopped. I leaned against a near by tree, gasping for air. This would be an acceptable reaction if I were sprinting throughout the forest at top speed for 10 minutes but no, I jogged through the forest for 10 minutes. Either I was insanely out of shape or not changing had made me weaker. I picked the 'I'm insanely out of shape' one and flopped down on the ground. Who wouldn't be if they didn't have gym in school to keep them somewhat in-shape?
I decided to take a 3 minute break. Which turned into a 5 minute break. Then, a 10 minute one. I finally forced myself up with a groan and decided to walk. Id get back home even if it were to be in a weeks time! I thought to myself. I walked for what seemed forever. My feet were already sore and I'd JUST begun! To all the rapers and creepers out in the forest, I probably looked like I was shouting, "HEY YOU. YEAH YOU. I'M ALL ALONE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FOREST AND NO ONE KNOWS WHERE I AM OR CARES. COME AND MURDER ME!"
Luckily I had pepper spray in my pocket. Ooh, I could pepper spray those little Black Fang wolves like there was no tomorrow! Oh, and then run like hell. A smile pulled at the edges of my lips from the thought then disapeared as I realized my situation. Ehh, I get distracted waayy too easily! I thought, glaring into the forest. Thats when I realized my mistake. I should have left the house when it was dark or was at least turning dark. Not in the middle of the day! I sighed, whatever.
A long while ago, I'd gotten tired of walking and I still am but the fear of the unknown (Well, not exactly the unknown, I just wanted to sound cool) kept me going. Who knows what could be pursuing me, waiting for me to sit down before it strikes. I was clumsier than normal, maybe because I was nervouse but now I had to keep watch of where to step. I felt like a drunken person trying to walk in a straight line but wasn't able to. Not that I knew what that felt like. I gave up walking decided to set up a place to sleep. I looked around, not sure exactly what to do. I dug up a little hole of dirt, wanting to create a fire. I had picked up a few matches from a droor in the kitchen. Plus it was cold, I could almost feel winter coming.
After I'd succesfully made a hole filled with leaves and other things I could set on fire, I let the fire lick at it until it took a bite. The fire soon engulfed the hole and shot warmth to me. I gratefully fed it more twigs. The hole wasn't very big but big enough to give me atleast some warmth but it was small enough to not attract unwanted attention. It would be easy to get rid of too. It was still light out but the sun was starting to set. I ran frantically around, looking for things to set on fire before the day's light ran out. When it got darker, I'd atleast made a pile that would get me through most of the night. I fed the fire slowly, waiting for it to almost die out before I gave it more of it's life source. I'd gotten a couple big branches that I snapped into smaller pieces to give to the fire. That added a few more hours to it's life. When the pile was close to gone, I fed the fire loads of grass that didn't do much.
I sighed and gave the last of the things to set on fire to it then went out in search of more. It was close to pitch black out here, the cresent of the moon gave off a gentle light that let me make out shapes. That would be tomorrow. The only way I knew this was because I had to do a project on the moon one time, found it interesting and stored it in my memory. I snatched up whatever I could as fast as I could, never wandering too far from my fire. When I collected a pile that looked like it'd be able to last about an hour, I went back. I was exhausted but I had to keep the fire going. We were eachothers life source. I fed the fire to keep it full while it fed me warmth and the image of protection. It was nice but I wasn't really safe. After a couple of hours(That felt more like days), I saw a peek of sunlight coming up. I smiled. I laid down on my rough blanket and the instant my head touched the ground, I was fast asleep.
