Citrine Manda CitRINe

Return to Lux Academy

Creator: Spearmint
Roleplay: Lux Academy
Nickname: Rin

Name: Citrine Manda CitRINe (C or Rin for short) (yes, his name is styled like that, caps and all. and yes, his first name is the same as his last name, other than the capitalization)
Age: 18
Pronouns & Sexual Orientation: he/him, pan

Appearance: Rin stands at around 5'7" and is of an average size, though more muscled than the average person due to training to become a Darksbane. He has rust-colored eyes that look more tangerine in the sunlight. His shoulder-length hair fades from indigo at the roots to a deep purple at the tips and is usually tied back in a small ponytail. Rin's typical outfit is a beige hoodie and dark purple or black jeans, and in general, he prefers comfortable, neutral-colored clothing. Boots (he has a set that matches his eyes) or sneakers are his footwear of choice. Rin's gaze can feel unnerving, as even when he's not actively looking at something, his default expression is focused. This has led to a few awkward situations where people have mistakenly thought he was staring at them, while he was actually focused on the worlds inside his mind.
Thematic: A spray of mist from an orange freshly peeled, refreshing and acidic at once. Light through deep green leaves, dappled circles of shade.
Aura Color: Shades of orange ranging from a dark burnt to a bright neon orange, overlapping in smooth layers. Slivers of chartreuse and lime green forming angular shapes among the waves of orange.

Fighting Style: Rin's weapon of choice is a spear. He's practiced until he can move fluidly with the spear, directing it as effortlessly as if it's an extension of his arm. Rin wears medium armor and either deflects attacks with the shaft of his spear or, if necessary, takes calculated hits on his armor to gain an advantage on his next thrust. He attacks with precision, dissecting each battle situation as if it's a math problem.
Armor: Rin uses medium armor. The set he creates will likely be plain but sturdy.
Magic Attunement: Light, has dabbled in Obsidian
Weapon Preference: Spear.

Personality: Like citrus fruits, Rin can be acidic at times. He won't hesitate to give his unfiltered opinion if asked. But, well, people tend not to ask. In that case, he's fine with living in his own world, constructing elaborate buildings and dramatic landscapes in his head. He can work with others if needed, but he tends to complete his part of the work precisely to the requirements and not one bit more. Truth be told, he finds the non-human world to be more fascinating than conversing with others. (Once he spent four hours watching grass grow in lieu of playing videogames with his cousins.)
If he is dragged into a dull conversation, he will make random remarks on things he's found that others find boring in order to return to his more interesting thoughts. For example, he might admire the shape of the clouds and go on a tangent about different levels of the atmosphere. He is woefully unprepared for what might happen if the other person happens to share his interests, or if they speak about something actually interesting.
Personal Strengths: Rin can see the beauty in pretty much any inanimate object. He'd compliment the unique texture of decaying leaves or the aesthetic cracks in a dilapidated building. If he cared, he'd notice and remember the littlest details about others. If he was more empathetic, he'd use his eye for detail to ensure others around him felt comfortable and appreciated. Unfortunately, that is not the present Rin. Present Rin is excellent at visualization and sketching, however. He is also good at analyzing battles, and will honestly admit to mistakes in the hopes of learning and preventing similar mistakes.
Personal Weaknesses: Rin... isn't so great at seeing the beauty in his fellow humans. He finds social interaction pointless, and even if he were lonely (which he isn't), he doesn't think it's worth the time and effort. Why spend time awkwardly struggling through conversations when one could be designing a gothic cathedral or an expansive botanical garden in one's own mind? Although his main magic attunement is Light, he is rather unpracticed with expanding his aura to protect others. When in battle alongside others, he's aware enough to not get in the way, but he hasn't truly achieved synergy with any team. If the team were to be compared to a machine, Rin would be the odd addition on the side working with, but not in, the machine.

Backstory: Rin grew up as the second-youngest child in a family of four children. His mother was from an upper-class family, while his father was an artist who'd changed his last name to CitRINe, with the RIN capitalized, as part of his brand. As a child, Rin was never quite sure why they'd married; they didn't seem unhappy, but neither did they seem to be as affectionate as they acted when they invited other families to their house. As Rin's maternal grandmother became more involved in their lives, however, he began to glimpse the picture: a rebellious child rejecting the stifling nobility, a traveling artist escaping his past, and a feeling of, if not passion, at least loyalty.
His grandmother didn't believe the love story. But Rin's mother was firmly entrenched in her new life. So she determined to at least raise her grandchildren right, and so while Rin's mother was at work for her charity and Rin's father was at his studio, she would train the children. Rin showed the greatest aptitude, and so as the years passed, more and more of her attention was concentrated on him.
Rin didn't mind the attention much. There was something soothing about practicing with a staff, and later a spear. His grandmother didn't waste time with small talk. Here, he knew exactly what was expected of him, unlike in conversations with their complex, unspoken cues.
He never really thought about what he wanted for himself, and his parents seemed content as long as he wasn't unhappy. Perhaps it was a sort of compromise for his mother's life of freedom-- letting Rin's grandmother guide Rin. When his grandmother suggested Lux Academy, he agreed.
Connections to Lux Academy: None.
Personal Goal: Rin isn't quite sure what he wants, but he enjoys learning more about the world. At Lux, he wants to study the architecture of the buildings and continue to hone his battle skills. After Lux... well, if he's going to be a Darksbane anyways, he'd like to know the truth of what's going on in the Rupture.
Personal Secret: Rin has occasionally wondered whether he's an extraterrestrial. He's never really been able to connect with others his age (or of any age, really), and the natural world always seems to surprise him with its wonders. Logically, he knows that's highly unlikely, but he can't shake the feeling of being different.
Personal Fear: Being lost. Having no idea what to do next, or what's expected of him, or what the right thing to do is.
Other: Rin does, in fact, enjoy eating mandarins.
