Darunia Vain

Return to Seven Deadly Sins: The Storybook

Creator: Mageheart
Roleplay: Seven Deadly Sins: The Storybook
Nickname: Runi

Name: Darunia "Runi" Vain

Role: Dragon's Sin of Wrath

Race: Demon Clan

Fighting Style: Runi favors close combat, using a combination of her flame magic and sacred weapon. One of her favored attacks is one where she coats her short sword in flames. Those who have seen her use her magic have noticed that there's something dark about the flames, but they can never put their finger on what that would be.

Sacred Weapon: A violet short sword she calls Onyx. Its alternative form is the necklace she's almost always wearing - a violet gem hanging on a black cord. All Runi has to do is coat it in her magic for it to activate.

Gender: Cisgender woman, she/her.

Age: Your guess is as good as hers! Runi estimates that it's somewhere in the thousands, but she doesn't know the specifics.

Appearance: Right now she's chilling as a human, so she looks like a somewhat small twenty-five year old woman. She's got her dark purple hair cut into a cute little bob, and her eyes are a pleasant shade of gold. She's definitely on the tall side. Her body is clean and relatively free of blemishes.

Her outfit currently consists of a black tank top, light purple jacket with t-shirt length sleeves, gray shorts and black boots. She also has on her sacred weapon in necklace form, and is wearing black fingerless gloves. Those who get a good look at her hands would note the callouses, but most contribute those to her instrument playing.

Speaking of instruments, she keeps them in a black case that's constantly on her. It looks like it could house an arsenal of weapons, but the black container on her back holds a variety of musical instruments. The most notable are her guitar and flute.

Like her canon counterpart, her tattoo is located on her right shoulder, and is usually hidden underneath her sleeve.

Though the color scheme may sound intimidating, there's just something about Runi that makes her appear friendly and lighthearted - but, if you do get her angry, she does seem very, very terrifying.

Personality: Runi has an incredibly casual personality. She seems to be able to befriend everyone, even the most hardened of people. If she likes someone particularly well, chances are that she'll invade their personal space - it's a sign of endearment from her.

She also has a habit of hiding her personal troubles. On one hand, this means she's been bottling up years of negative emotions. On the other hand, she can easy focus on the needs of her team when the situation calls for it.

Up for Romance: She is! She's panromantic.

Backstory: Runi's story truly begins with a human woman named Nissam. Nissam, a skilled magic user and avid historian, befriended Runi when both were relatively young. The two traveled Liones together and eventually grew so close that they made a magical bond that could only be broken by the death of one party. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that Runi had a crush on Nissam; she always admired her and her abilities.

But then an artifact in one of the ruins corrupted Nissam. She became cold and harsh, ordering Runi around without a single regret. Eventually, the woman Runi loved was gone, replaced by a cruel stranger that ruled over a region called Grimmore with a reign filled with injustice. The corruption and magical bond allowed Nissam to easily exceed the human lifespan, and Runi started to lose hope. The only opportunity for her freedom was to kill Nissam, but she could never do that - Nissam was the only person she had left.

Then she met Spinam.

Spinam, a traveler, wandered into Grimmore one day. The two quickly became friends, and, when Spinam's life was on the line, Runi killed Nissam to protect him. Now she was free, but Grimmore was without a ruler. Spinam, who had always been looking for a home, took up the mantle. He ruled for many years. But when forces from the outside began to affect him, he began to change - this change, however, was not magical. And while Nissam may have been cruel, he was sadistic, ruthlessly murdering those who dared to stand in his way.

After seeing him murder an innocent man in cold blood, Runi was enraged by the monster Spinam had become. Spinam - and Grimmore - was destroyed in a single night, engulfed in Runi's flames.

Seeking penance for her crimes, Runi became a Holy Knight of Liones. She quickly climbed through its ranks. Eventually, Runi became the founding member - and Captain - of a group called the Seven Deadly Sins. She loved every moment she spent with her new friends, and promised that she'd never let the same thing happen to them that had happened to Spinam and Nissam.

She was heartbroken when she gave the order for them to split up ten years ago, and wandered aimlessly through Liones for the next five years. Then she encountered a talking pig named Hawk, and helped rescue him from a group of people who had torn him from his mother - who was apparently an enormous green pig. (Runi still doesn't know the story behind the two, but she just rolls with it.) Runi eventually came up with the idea of the Boar's Hat, a restaurant on the back of the larger pig that could move with them. It would supply them with enough money to get by, and neither pig had objections.

Hawk became its mascot, and Runi plays the part of its head chef, performer and waitress. She's been running the place for the past five years.

Other: Like her canon counterpart, Runi can't cook to save her life. Her cooking has been known to frequently make people retch in disgust, and most come to the Boar's Hat for the drinks and music - all provided by her. She's an exceptionally good performer.
