There was a rustling in the underbrush. Kivvien slowed, reaching for his wand.

The forest was quiet, almost too quiet, and the air was growing cold.

Kivvien was glad once more for the quiet, and he turned his attention to the sounds of the forest around them.

"Many scholars have lost their sight and found ways to continue their work without creating an abomination."

"Your very existence is enough of a condemnation of your master's honor."

"Frankly, I think not. He is a dishonorable man, regardless of his skill."

"If one wants a way around the rules they can apply for exception," Kivvien said dismissively.

"Nor do I. There are protocols for a reason."

"So he is reckless."

"What was it then?" Kivvien may have gotten himself in a worse situation than he thought.

"Employing an assistant had to have been a better option than knowingly getting banned from the college."
