"My opinion on the process hasn't changed," he said, "but it's been done, and sentience has been born from it, so it mustn't be undone."

"You were created by an enhancement of the natural process," he said dismissively.

"I have yet to meet such a rule that hasn't at some point been broken by nature itself."

Kivvien sighed. "You very clearly are. Homunculi are rare, hardly a thing is known about their variety and possibility. Maybe you are the first to be sentient, but you are."

"Why not?" he asked, just to entertain the stubborn humunculus.
