She looked at the old woman expectantly.

“Why not?”

“Oh?”

“He’s never had you over?”

Jerica drew a breath to respond, then remembered she wasn’t supposed to know. So she shrugged and took another drink of beer.

Oh. Right. Her privilege was showing a bit. Still. Ash didn’t seem the type. Especially not against one of Loquitur’s friends. “Worth the risk, I think.”

“Worst he could say is no,” Jerica encouraged, thrilled with the idea of Loquitur getting yelled at.

“Well, he did.” She took another drink of her beer. She was definitely starting to feel it. And should probably stop soon. Or at least shut up. Maybe she should ...

“Mm… wonder if it was worth his daughter.”

“And yet Loquitur decided to get involved with him,” she sniffed.

Jerica nodded in agreement. “Or, you know, talking out their problems like big boys. The whole lot of them. Not throwing tantrums.”

“That’s shitty,” she said again. “Meanwhile Loquitur and Ash are keeping their own hands clean, of course.”

Jerica blinked. “That’s shitty.” The brothers kept falling even lower in her estimations.

Jerica cringed and nodded sympathetically. “…wait Loquitur’s best friend enlisted against him?” Drama.
