The word triggered another rush of words from Rea. "An archivist? What's that? Do you collect books, lore, knowledge, dredges of civilizations long lost to the endless march of time? ...

Rea's mind failed to register the implications of this revelation for a full ten seconds and she remained beaming at the stranger, mug long forgotten amidst a flurry of paper. ...

"Rude, yes," Blaze replied absently. When at last a slightly drunk straggler staggered into the alleyway, he pounced forward, diving for the man's legs.

"I'm sure they are. That's where the kidnapping comes in."

"True, that," Blaze replied with a frown. "There's certainly an influx of cultures here that feels unnatural. Maybe we should ask some of the locals?"

"Irrelevant. What matters is that we aren't from this world, and for some reason we're here now. Have either of you experienced something like this before?"

Rea watched the exchange, breathless with excitement. "Rings? What rings? Are those the things the local folk were telling us about? How do you use them? Are they like Waystones? ...

"I'm pulling your leg, that's all," he said with amusement. "I'm not into torturing people for no reason."

"Good, that's settled," Blaze muttered. "I vote that we kidnap a local and force information out of them."

"I see. I assume neither are you are from this place either. In that case, would you like to stick together to see what we can make of this situation?"

"I don't think Hades has anything to do with this place,though," Blaze said comfortingly. "Where are we, incidentally?"
