Hello and welcome to YWS! I'm Saen. If you ever have any questions, feel free to come to me.

If I can't answer your questions, or I'm not on when you have one, you can always ask the users whose names are in green (moderators) or red (administrators). Other users would be happy to help as well.

Also, here's some helpful parts of YWS that can help you understand how things work on the site:

    Welcome Mat
    Knowledge Base - YWS
    FAQ
    FAQ For New Users
    YWS Critique Sandwich

There's also a really cool part of the site that I suggest checking out! It's called the Storybook section of the site, and it's a place where you can collaborate with other writers in roleplays or even full-blown stories. I've been in a lot of them before, so please don't be afraid to ask me more about them if that seems like something you'd be into.

By the way, what type of things do you like to write? I'm currently writing a fantasy novel, but I'm also a big fan of poetry and short stories.

    IgniteTheStars Hi and thank you!
I kind of don't really have a preference, I guess, but I do prefer short stories more though (not enough patience to plan out a novel HAHA). I try to write for all genres, though not all end up that well...
I wish you luck in writing that novel, from my experience they are kind of hard!

    For reference

Radrook wrote:Here are some more interesting facts concerning the genre of Flash Fiction. Notice that there is also a fifty-word one and a seven-hundred and fifty-word one.

    1. Flash Fiction = 1000 words
    2. Sudden Fiction or Micro Fiction = 750 words
    3. Drabble = 100 words
    4. Dribble = 50 words

    Some history on Flash Fiction

In the United States, early forms of flash fiction can be found in the 19th century, notably in the figures of Walt Whitman, Ambrose Bierce, and Kate Chopin.[9]

In the 1920s flash fiction was referred to as the "short short story" and was associated with Cosmopolitan magazine; and in the 1930s, collected in anthologies such as The American Short Short Story.[10]

William Somerset Maugham was a notable proponent, with his Cosmopolitans: Very Short Stories (1936) being an early collection.

In Japan, flash fiction was popularized in the post-war period particularly by Michio Tsuzuki
