Darkness creeps up my wall as my Father shuts the door
The night light does nothing but light the little corner is occupies
I snuggle deeper into my blankets, trying to avoid the creatures lurking in the shadows
My blankets become nothing more than a little sheet protecting me from the monsters
There breath is sickly sweet as they breath on my forehead that is still revealed
I can just imagine there twisted, fanged smiles snarling gruesomely at me
As I peek out of my comforter I see nothing but the whiteness of my walls
The Night has obviously found a hole so it can seep into my room
Whiteness turns to black as I shove the blanket back over my head
My world is dimmer and dimmer as I fade into a deep sleep
But, there in my dreams too
They're are tall lanky ones with sharp nails attempting to grasp me
But then there are also chubby short ones that are also running after me but not as fast
This whole world is sick and dark
I stumble over tree roots as I race through this damp forest
The laughter and screams grow closer as I grow weaker and slower
There are suddenly claws all over me as I thrash violently under them
NO! I scream out and then suddenly I am in my bed again, safe and warm
My Father slams the door open and rushes over to my bed
"Are you okay?" He asks carefully
I nod weakly as I see the morning sun beaming through my windows saving me from the lurking monsters
Father smiles back at me and kisses me on my forehead
"I love you father." I giggle in joy
"I love you too honey." He replies and leaves the room
When I roll over I see my closet silently creeping open to reveal a long pointed smile
We shall never forget 4-20-99

Nice one except that your 'there's should be 'their's and 'breath's should be 'breathe's. Hope you got me. :-D The drama in the poem, the climax was well-described. How a simple nightmare was depicted in such an unique way was impressive.
"Whiteness turns to black as I shove the blanket back over my head
My world is dimmer and dimmer as I fade into a deep sleep"---Over here, 'whiteness' could have been replaced by 'white' or maybe 'black' by 'blackness' just to make it sound good. And in the second line, 'is' can be 'gets' to be more grammatically correct. ;-)
Hope you keep writing many such wonderful poems and keep improving. Good luck, neonwriter. :-)
Imperfection is beauty,
Madness is genius,
And it's better to be absolutely ridiculous
Than to be absolutely boring... :-D

Hi there. I could relate to this at some point because I had actually written a poem like this and it was regarding of my fear of the dark. I found yours are quite good but it would be great if you separate the lines with stanzas..you know, with some punctuation. That will increase the quality of your poem and even more rhythmical. But on top of it,this is a good piece. Keep writing! :)

Overall, I liked this poem. I'm sure most people can relate to the fear of the dark. As a child I was terrified. It captured the the readers imagination. Nice description of the monsters. I think that perhaps the poem could have been written in a more 'child like' voice, simply to show how vulnerable the child is. I also think that you could elaborate a little more on the fear. Still, its easy to read and relate to. Its definitely not boring. Good job. Keep it up! :)
