The Story of You and I
started not so long ago.
In fact, only a mere
eight months before.
Our story begins
With a lonely girl
And a shy boy.

Desolate and distraught, the lonely girl stood.
She stood wondering and hoping, pondering and dreaming
When will my prince come? When shall I be nevermore companion-less?
When shall I be freed from this eternal wait?

With these thoughts, she strolled slowly to her seat
Only to find a boy there.
Her friends objected; they did not know him; they did not want to
He calmly left his seat for the girl
The girl, baffled, muttered a low and humble 'thank you' and took her seat

The boy would not meet her eyes,
for other than being considerate and gallant,
he was terribly shy.
The girl could not properly see his face;
he refused to meet her eyes.

The class was to watch a humorous nutrition documentary.
The girl and the boy laughed in unison; and for once,
their eyes met, and she saw him for the first time.
Straight, honey-blonde hair, cadet blue eyes, pale, almost pink skin
So much more different than her dark brown eyes, dark, curly hair, and olive skin.
She immediately felt a deep attraction to him, but did not recognize the feeling
and dismissed the thought.

"You must not think these things; you will only break your heart,
Besides, that name has brought you unfortunate luck before," her mind said.
But her young, naive heart said,"No. This could be something."
She ignored both and decided to get to know this attractive stranger.

What were only minutes felt like hours.
Every breath they drew, every word they spoke felt natural; perfect.
What were only hours, felt like years.
Later she would find, these 'years' would never be enough.
Admiring and almost dumb-founded was his look
How it made her go weak...
How he made her laugh!
She would giggle and laugh at each joke
His voice made her feel safe; shielded; loved.
Little did this, now very smitten, lonesome girl know,
the shy beautiful boy did indeed return her burning ardor.

One warm, bright May afternoon
The girl walked with her friends
They beckoned the boy over, or rather dragged him.
seeing no escape, this once shy boy overcame his shyness
" Will you go out with me?" he asked
She nodded excitedly and said, "Yes."
"Did she say yes??" he repeated in disbelief to her friends, half to himself
"YES!!" she shouted jubilantly
They gazed at each other, smiling.
Finally knowing that the boy liked her the same way
she adored him.

The first days were blissful.
They would just stare and stare for long periods of time
and were content with that.

The girl was scared though.
She did not know how to love him;She was not ready;
No boy had ever loved her back!
Slowly, she distanced herself from him.
She still cared for him;
She just did not know what to do.
Farther and farther away she pushed herself,
until things started falling apart.

He had promised a kiss
But she had to leave
The girl waited for him afterwards
Waited for that one, first, special kiss
The kiss that would prove their love
That would prove
that they were meant to be together
and that they both still cared for each other.
So she waited for him, hopeful.
He never came.

Being human, her first instinct was to blame.
She blamed him for their problems
His fear of commitment
When the only one afraid and at fault,
was her.

The boy would no longer talk to her.
They smiled from time to time, but that was that.
She missed the sweet sound of his voice.
His arms protectively slung around her shoulders.
It was over for them.
The girl was lonely again.

She felt no pain. No regrets.
She did not miss him.
She felt fine.
She did not care.
She was better off without him.
But that was not true.
She loved him.

She truly loved him too much.
All that was left of her
was a numb, cold, tired shadow
of what she used to be.

She woke in a cold sweat.
She cried many, many tears in vain.
No bitter tears would bring him back.
All she could do was taste the salty tears
in her mouth,
wallow in self-pity,
and miss him terribly.
Because she would never be with him again.

Eight months have passed
From May to January
The poor, stupid girl still loves him
Still loves the taste of his name on her lips
Still looks at him the same way
She did eight months before.
But now, all she has are broken dreams
and thoughts of
what could have been.

So love him,
Treasure him,
Do not lose him.
Do not be afraid; let your heart guide you.
For one day, it could all disappear.

Maybe this is the end of our story
Maybe it is not.
You and I have shared many memories,
Much too special to let them fall away.
We are friends now;
That is all we'll ever be
But I still await the day
your cadet blue eyes and honey-blonde hair
returns to me once more
and begins another chapter in our story
In which we are together
And my dreams of you
become reality.
"Everybody stares, as she goes by
'Cause they can see the
flame that's in her eyes
Watch her when she's lighting up the night
Nobody knows that she's a lonely girl
And it's a lonely world
But she gon' let it burn
, baby,burn,baby"

Wow...Beautiful. It almost had me in tears. Reminded me of my own lonliness and how I am just another person looking for "the one" . How one day my prince will come (or not...) . The love you put into this poem of yours was so pure and innocent. I admit that it was quite long, but it was a good read. Keep up the good work! :)

It's a beautiful poem, it really is. Didn't quite have me in tears but very close to - divine imagery, very nice. 'Cadet Blue Eyes'..... I loved that, I could just imagine these huge bright blue eyes. Anyway, back to the review. Yes, the poem is long and it did put me off reading it, especially at 3am. So I'm sort of half asleep and everything seems a bit blurry so excuse the horrible spelling mistakes in this review, your poem doesn't deserve it.

Keep writing,

It was just so touching. And the best part, it ends in a very poetic way. I loved the ending..that desire, that hope. Nice descriptions and word-choice. Good work! :-)

Thanks :)
@Crimsona:
At first I didn't think cadet blue was a very poetic type color and it didn't sound very pretty. My sister was the one that helped me come up with the color description and when I looked up what cadet-blue looked like, I saw my sister was right. Those were DEFINITELY his eyes:) Your spelling errors were-- you had none! lol Anyways thank you!

@Anwesha:
Thank you all so much! :) Lol yeah that was definitely some hopeless hope at the end! I LOOOVE your signature:)

This is the color I meant to describe. They are almost exactly like this except his eyes have a more surreal quality that looks like an ever-burning fire.....
They GUARANTEE an out-of-body experience! they're amazing!

Love is a difficult word sometimes. Sometimes it's over used and sometimes not used enough. You have to be there and witness it for yourself before you can truly tell which it is.

I quite liked your poem here. It's a story that's well worth sharing and I might share my own that's somewhat similar someday. Keep up the good work:D ~C.C.

Wowee... such a beautiful story with a tragic ending. Its really long but if felt like a short story/ poem thing, but I liked it. I've never read one of those before. I think the story is so sad and sweet and I loved how first the girl talked about herself, and then was like... setting a warning to all us about guys and stuff. I found that really smart.

Love you Angie <33333
