A heavy heartbeat of horror
Test tubes clattering, clashing
Tumbling, spitting, spurting
Rainbow juice leeching
Kissing the tips of my toes
Bare feet exposed to other-worldy chemistry
Ribbons of gas spiral out of glass
I’m glad you told me to roll up my sleeves
I feel the hiss of steam hitting my fingertips
The crunch of grits beneath my heels,
Treading colour
Into linoleum
The mercury is rising-
and the world is shrinking
outside of my transparent imagination
I made a mistake, did I?
See me now
Poisoning my already intoxicated brain cells
And I swear
My periphery is in colour-
Rose tinted glasses are quite easy on the eyes, I think you’ll find
And the light bends and refracts
into it I divulge my secrets
and the beam splits
shooting them into the loneliness
This is no mistake, I’m quite enjoying the scents
The yellow brings sulfur, but magenta,
Rose perfume and
Bittersweet regrets
Tell me-
when does absolute uncertainty become relative?
The taste of the air rests
Like a smouldering phoenix feather
On the palette
Fire needs fuel, oxygen, ignition
I need food, imagination, experimentation
So I paint science
In the brokenness that causes tears
Blood clots in capillaries
No air getting through to me
Circulation running out
I’m stranded like a plastic bag jellyfish
The single unshaded lightbulb
Dies
I swing up onto a table
And start
All
Over
Again.
