those who forget the past have no future
and those who can't dream can never achieve
pasted with big font on society's billboards
supported by brainwashed schoolchildren
and their pencil souvenirs awash with propaganda
i'd rather write obituaries for forgotten martyrs
with a free hand unrestrained, broken from
classroom chains and guideline handcuffs
describing the fallen heroes that inspire me
much more than a chalky blackboard
i don't want to be just a clone of the system
but i don't want to be out of the system
so i'm destined to fall in line or forever fall
grasping at radical liberal idealistic claims
and hide in the corner of my room
where the bright lights of the city can't reach
i forever make comments about the cliche
anonymous red rose lying outside the front door
but i admire the beauty and spontaneity
because cynicism is only a mask for fear
of someone knowing who i really am.
