Daddy,
There's a hole in my heart.
One right where your name should be.
And those experiences that should have been but never were,
I've missed out haven't I?
I shouldn't have to look elsewhere for you
You should have been in my life.
Instead you let yourself be replaced by someone
Who for all intense purposes
Could do nothing for me.
I'll never understand why I couldn't just open my eyes
And see you standing there at my doorway.
Looking in the room to check and see if I was safe,
Or chase all my nightmares away.
There's a gap in my life
That I've searched for nearly every day.
Prayed for more then anything
Never understood why it wasn't you
Tucking me in at night.
Switching days with my mom
To see who would read me a story.
And take me to my first concert,
Listen to me playing those horrible instruments,
And singing to the wrong notes,
Making wishes and chasing dreams.
Why weren't you there?
I can never answer that for myself,
But I wish someone would tell me.
Could it be that I've moved too often,
For you to even want to stand in my life?
How could it be that you weren't there?
I wish I could make excuses for you,
And say that it's okay,
But there's a hole in my heart,
A gap in my life,
I've wanted you here,
That, I'll say, isn't a lie.
But I've written you letters,
I've emailed you,
And again and again you stop contacting me.
Was it just a thought that you'd be in my life?
Just a dream that you'd be my daddy?
I've tried to fill the hole in my life,
Tried to replace you with other people,
But over and over again I fail.
No one can truly be,
The father that I want them to be.
How I wish it was you,
To this day it's all I do.
Wish you were the father in my life,
That never left me,
That never gave me this broken heart,
That was in my life,
And gave me hope.
How I wish you were him,
Dear GOD I wish you were him.
Instead there's a hole where your name should be,
Coating my heart with misery,
Making me feel that I wasn't enough,
To be the daughter that I needed to be.
I've hoped and I've prayed,
Stayed strong and never strayed,
But still you left me.
Leaving me with a gaping wound,
And injury that even I couldn't close,
Putting question in my mind that I could never know,
The simplest of answers to.
No, you left a hole in my heart,
Broke me and tore me apart.
I guess I'm not your little princess anymore,
Because you shoved me and my heart through your door,
Leaving me standing there looking and wandering,
When I'll find someone to fill the spot that was orignally yours.
There's a hole in my heart,
That I can't close even if I tried,
And to say I haven't tried, would definitely be a lie.
