For the Love of the Hero
I love how the night is dark and still,
Devoid of any sound.
I marvel at how the air can sizzle,
Anticipation rumbling the ground.
My heart leaps at how the hero strides,
A sturdy, strong and steady gait.
Watching as he draws his blade,
I know I’ve not long to wait.
I flinch and gasp as swords collide,
Sending out a spray of sparks.
They pull apart and collide again
To the beating of my heart.
My breath is stolen as the villain falls
And the final blow is struck out of sight.
And the hero stands, tall and triumphant
As great cheers engulf the night.
I treasure the taste of sweet victory
As though it were my own.
There’s not to do but watch him go,
As he makes his long way home.
There’s a mighty bond that connects and ties
All hearts, near, far, high, or low.
No matter how the story ends,
Who can resist the hero?
