Chapter 3
“She hates me.” Troy said, dropping his head onto his hands. I felt the pain from his words but I knew I couldn't do anything to change it. “She hates me. How could I do that to her? But no, I’m her husband. She shouldn’t hate me, she should love me! Oh God! Marc, why does she hate me?” Troy asked Marc. His words were spoken with so many emotions that I could almost feel the raging turmoil within him. I wanted to run to him, to comfort him and tell him that everything would be alright but I didn't. There was a small piece of my heart telling me to leave him be so he could feel the pain I felt in the year that he had been gone and sadly, it dominated the part that wanted to take him back and forgive everything he had done.
“You left her! You left her when she needed you most. You forced her into your marriage and then you left," was Marc's answer to his question. Marc's voice was filled with betrayal and hurt as if he was the one that Troy personally hurt. And in a way, he was because he was there to see me break down and as my best friend, he stood by me no matter how much it hurt him to see me like that.
"Do you remember how you did that?" Marc continued after the definite blow to Troy's heart. "You scattered both of your clothes from the hallway on the stairs right in front of her parents’ room to her room and then you lay down beside her practically naked. Do you remember what happened the next morning? Her parents saw the clothes that led to her room and when they opened the door, what did they see? You two together in bed, you were shirtless, the blanket only covered the lower part of your body and she was topless too. You made it look like you slept together and the worst part was that she was hugging you like a pillow.” Marc paused and looked at Troy’s reaction. I watched with morbid curiosity and then I found myself remembering that same day, the day that changed my life.
Troy was smiling sheepishly at the memory of that morning. “What happened afterward Troy? Tell me.”
“Her dad started screaming. He was asking her how she could do it in his house but she didn’t even flinch. She only woke up when I nudged her awake. She didn’t know what happened or how it even happened but she couldn’t ignore the ‘evidence’ and the fact that she was almost naked.” Troy said smiling to himself while I flinched because I could hear my dad's raised voice loud and clear through my memory “Her dad wanted me to get out but I asked him that if she got pregnant would he want his grandchild to grow up without a father.” He said with a deep sigh.
“Yes and then they forced her to marry you for the sake of the child.” Marc agreed. “But after you were married she didn’t let you touch her. Yes she let you live in her room, sleep next to her on her bed but she never slept with you, or at least not yet. Three months into your marriage and you still haven’t consummated. In those three months, what did you do?” Marc asked. I knew he didn't need to ask, he knew everything but in a sense, he was taking revenge.
“I courted her. I slowly gained her trust. Everyone actually thought it was sweet of me to court my own wife.” He said thoughtfully as he remembered what he did to earn my trust. On the balcony, I watched as he reminisced about those sweet times when he would do something to surprise me. “I thought she would never learn to love me until one night we were in bed and she told me she was ready.” He said as he looked up, our gazes met and our eyes spoke as we both remembered the first night I surrendered to him as his wife.
‘We were lying in bed that night. He was reading a book while I was contemplating our relationship. Suddenly an overwhelming thought occurred to me; I loved him. From the morning my parents caught us together in bed, I knew I loved him. That was why I let him sleep next to me, why I responded to his kisses whether we were in public or in the seclusion of my room. I was only afraid of getting hurt once more which was why I did not let him sleep with me. But that night I conquered all my fears. I was nervous, my heartbeat rose and I was pretty sure that my skin was on fire. I put his bookmark in place and closed the book that he was reading. I put the book down on the bedside table and then turned back to him.
“What are you doing?” he finally asked me. But instead of answering I straddled him and then kissed him tenderly. He didn’t need anymore words, one minute I was on top of him the next he was on top of me unbuttoning my pajama top. My heart pounded in my chest, my breathing became ragged and my whole body was heating up. His lips never moved away from mine as he took his own clothes off so I was shocked when he abruptly pulled away from me. His eyed raked over my face. My own looked at his face, confusion and shock reflected in the chocolate brown pools.
“Are you sure?” he asked me quietly, passion and desire flaming in his eyes.
“Yes…” I answered then paused for just a moment “But only because I love you and for no other reason.” I told him, he was hovering on top of me, his arms on either side of my head supporting his whole weight, clad only in his boxers. He was stunned at my proclamation.
“C-can you say that again? Please?” he requested and looked at my questioning eyes. “I just want to make sure I wasn’t dreaming or hallucinating.” He explained, I smiled at him and an idea formed inside my head.
“Say what again? I didn’t say anything.” I teased, flashing him an innocent look. His lips claimed mine in an urgent kiss. He kissed me until my lungs burned for air.
“Please?” he asked me one more time. I smiled at him lovingly.
“I love you Troy Reid and I am proud to be your wife.” I declared. He kissed me again and this time his kiss was more passionate, more urgent and more demanding and then I knew that my message had finally gotten through to him.
“I love you too Mrs. Reed.” He murmured against my lips when he finally decided that we both needed to breathe.
And then the next morning, when I woke up to the sound of my alarm I remembered everything that happened. Each kiss, each touch was seared into my memory. I woke him up.
“Baby, wake up. We have school today remember?” I told him while I gently shook him.
“Can’t we stay at home today? You tired me out last night. You kept me up.” He told me, his eyes slowly opening.
“I kept you up?” I asked innocently. “Weren’t you the one…?” I was stopped by the sudden fierceness of his kiss. His aggression stunned me for a moment but the heat that surged through me after that stunning moment almost melted my heart. I put my hands on his chest and pushed as gently as I could with restraining hands. He stopped kissing me and looked at me with questioning eyes.
“What’s the matter?” he asked, clearly hurt by my rejection. “Don’t you want me, too?”
“Baby, as much as I would like to do this right here and now with you, I can’t… at least not right now.” I said with a taunting smile.
“Does that mean later?” he asked, his eyes glinting with mischief.
“Maybe…” I said as he rolled off of me. I kissed him tenderly then went to the bathroom to prepare for school.’
A soft snoring interrupted my thoughts and I realized Rosalie had fallen asleep in my arms. I broke off eye contact with Troy and looked at our daughter. She had his face but my eyes and hair, one look and no one could say that she wasn’t our child.
