I had a dream a while back and it’s been in my head for quite some time.
It was about super heroes of some kind. I dreamt of my fiancé Sam, my sister Susie and I. So, for now, I’ll keep our names.
I dreamt Sam was super strong, I could fly and Suz could zap people. That was it, the dream ended. But, the idea stuck.
What if? Susie could zap people but she was always high powered (powered on) and unless she calmed down, was really mellow, she couldn’t be in the rain, couldn’t take a bath or shower.
Sam was not only super strong, he could only lift up to twice his weight. He has weight issues his whole life, because the bigger he is, the stronger he is. But he’s also more sluggish, hard to move and get out of bed in the morning.
And me. I could fly, but only if I give myself a jump start. Like, run twenty feet before launching myself in the air.
There you have it. My characters. In my dream, they were in our modern world, every day heroes. But I dug out some old ideas of mine and found one.
A world where there are three suns. With each sun, a race is born. The sun is in the sky like four months per year, when it sets, another sun/race rises. I thought maybe the suns could also be seasons.
Now, while the seasons are slumbering, the other one is causing havoc. An old war has kept them hating each other. They think that if they destroy the other races, they won’t have to slumber anymore and they’ll rule their planet. Because, in fact, they don’t slumber, they are caught in limbo and don’t want to go back there anymore.
I thought that as time goes by, the races actually have to live together. At first, they would all be awake a few seconds every few years. Like, an eclipse awakens them or something. But the planet and suns and whatever are whacked and now they spend like, a day together every ten years or so. Last time that happened, there were rapes and brutalities and children were born from those unions.
Which is where my mc’s would come in.
I thought of having Susie kidnapped (actually, it was my sister’s idea haha) and taking into the wet season. She would need to remain calm or be locked up while everyone around her died.
I thought maybe the children could find a cave or house or something and start writing on walls. They get to know each other by finding the others’ comments. They form a friendship this way.
Those are my general ideas. I need help. Can you guys see anything I can’t? Can you find a link in this that I can’t? The puzzles pieces aren’t quite fitting in, and I don’t know if it’s because I don’t have the full picture yet, or because I don’t have the right setting for my characters, or I need to think about it more.
Any input/insight you have would be great and might help jog my own ideas.
Thanks in advance!
Tanya
