CHAPTER FOURTEEN
HIS BEATING HEART
They had a crazy night. Marky's wrath cooled down when Ismael consoled him. They went to a discotheque near the hotel and they had fun. They even forgot about their family who worried to death because they didn't know where they went.
Don Martin sat at the sofa inside their suite. His hand ran down his face. Gracia walked towards him. She placed a hand on the top of his hand that rested on the arm of the sofa. He looked at his wife.
"Cool down, Martin. Our elder son is here. Let's not lose him again," she said as her eyes got teary.
He sighed heavily. "He should follow my footsteps, you know it, Gracia. All the elder sons our family should inherit their family's business and manage it."
"What have really happened? Tell me," she said as Martin pulled her close and made her sit on his lap.
He held up her hand and placed her palm close to his lips. He gently kissed her hand. "Marky doesn't want to manage Bella Amor."
"I told you," she said in a manner that she wasn't blaming him but reminding him that she already said that.
Her husband closed his eyes. "I don't know what hit me when he said that he wasn't interested. It reminds me that he's satyriatic."
"And you rubbed it in his face?" she pulled away her hand and stood up. Her man had to admit that he did.
Gracia shook her head. "You have insulted him. Marky tried his best to recover from his psychological disorder, Martin."
"I know. But.. I just can't .."
"Accept it, Martin. He might be a little far from what you expect him to be but Marky's still a man. His beating heart gets broken when you remind him about the past."
"Do you really think we should turn over the responsibilities to Bella Amor resort to Mark?" He was now beginning to hesitate about his decision.
She kneeled down and reached his hands. "What do you think?"
"I want my own son to handle our resort," he said. He paused. "Have they found Marky and Ismael?"
"Not yet, dear. I am already worried. Ismael's not in his suite and Marky's not on suite 25."
Don Martin's eyes widened. He looked surprised and his wife noticed that.
"What's wrong, honey?"
He replied, "Marky's staying in suite 25?"
"Yes," she nodded. "Why?"
"Nothing," he shook his head. "It's strange, Gracia. That suite was known as the love suite."
Gracia leaned closer to him. "Love suite? Why?"
"Before I let you manage the resort last week, while I was gone to Spain to invite Dad to our family reunion, that suite already has that pseudonym."
"I said, why is that so?" she was his wife for years, but she wasn't yet immuned to Martin's long explanations.
Martin sighed. Talking about the history of the suite 25 or love suite didn't really matter but his curious wife looked interested.
"Okay, okay," he managed to say. "It's called love suite because couples always stay in that suite. When a bachelor or bachelorette stays in there, the first person of their opposite sex who enters their suite becomes their lover."
She giggled. "It's like your telling me an urban legend, fat-so."
Don Martin wasn't really obese, but he was one tall, fat guy.
"Fine, I'm not forcing you to believe it, but I'm telling you, it always happens."
She raised an eyebrow. "So, you're expecting that Marky will experience the same thing?"
Don Martin smiled. Even the fat guy didn't know.
It was already late in the morning when Marky woke up inside his suite. He had a hang over that made him groan as he sat up in his soft bed. He muttered a lot of unintelligable words, cursing the pain that he felt in his head. He quickly took a shower that helped to relieve the pain in his head.
He tried to recall his plans for that day as he ate an ice cold sushi for breakfast. First, he would stroll around Bella Amor resort and feed his eyes with the view of sexy girls roaming around the beach in their swimsuits. Next, he'll look for Naddie. He would give her instructions about his date with Ronnie. Then, he would attend to their family's exclusive gathering wherein his father will turn over the resort to someone that he didn't know and he didn't care who anyway. After the ceremony, he would leave the party and wait for Ronnie in his suite for their dinner date. None of that really made him excite, except the fact that he would see Naddie with a revolver gun.
As Marky jogged by the seashore, he smiled. Another brand new day after his nightmare last night.
Ismael tried to recover from the hang-over that he had last night. Going to the discotheque resulted to his hang-over but he was still glad because he had been with Marky last night. His brother was insulted by his father's remark and when he was called the black sheep of the family. He told Marky to get used to it, move on and he apologized that he had gone through that.
This morning, his head was still aching. He decided to take some walk by the seashore. He was about to take his grey sweater when he saw the red jacket beside it. That was the jacket that Naddie gave him in the ice cream parlor. He was poked by his curiousity again. How did he have that jacket? Who was it's owner? He decided to carry the jacket with him, in case that the owner would recognize it and take it from him. Ismael passed by the receptionist area and saw the Spanish-looking girl again. She looked so busy as she read the record book. He stopped by the receptionist area and greeted her.
"Good morning," he smiled.
The girl looked up and smiled. "Oh, good morning, Sir Federal."
"Just call me Ismael," he smiled wider. The receptionist looked demure as she nodded.
"S-Sure, Ismael."
Ismael felt something different for this girl. No words could exactly tell. He felt a mix of glee and sorrow. It was hard for him to comprehend why there was sorrow in his feelings for her.
"As you can see, I was.." He was getting cold feet. "Uhm, Can we be friends?"
She looked at him with wonder. "Well.."
"You know, it wasn't really that I am.. Well, I just have a feeling that we can be good friends."
"Call me Ronnie, Sir," she smiled.
He nodded. "Sure, Ronnie."
His beating heart couldn't explain why he wanted to know her better.
CHAPTER FIFTEEN
THE GATHERING
The moon was round and yellow across the empty sky where no stars were present. Inside the Bella Amor hotel, right in the ballroom, the decorations were already present. The theme colors were gold, silver and white. Round tables covered on white and gold table clothes were already in their places. The planner provided a big empty space in the middle of the ballroom for those who would like to dance in the party. As the clock struck 6 P.M., the people from the higher society, such as the rich millionaires and their faimlies, came to the gahering.
There was a lot of people when Marky and Ismael came. Marky planned to come first, but when didn't want to come anymore, his brother forced him to. Everything started with a dance party. Old acquaintances grouped themselves together to reminisce good old memories. Ismael left Marky on their table to talk to his collegues.
He tapped his fingers impatiently on the table when a lady sat on Ismael's empty chair. He looked at her and smiled. His smile could knock the hell out of her. She was so weak against his smiles.
Naddie raised an eyebrow at him, pretending that she wasn't affected by that smile. "Staying alone? Being a party-pooper, huh?"
He gently shook his head and raised his wine glass. "Not really, Naddie. I just didn't want to come here."
She stole his wine glass and drank champagne. After that, Naddie replied, "I heard about what happened last night."
"Shit," he muttered before he told her, "It's the same old story."
"If only I knew.." She shook her head. "Never mind."
"Say it, Naddie." He was curious.
"I said, don't mind about it," she turned her head to watch the people at the center of the ballroom, dancing to a slow waltz.
He took the wine glass and sipped champagne. "Tell me, if you only knew..?"
"It's nonsense," she rolled her eyes.
"You always say nonsense and I'm used to it."
She blushed and looked upset at the same time. "Since when have I said something nonsense, mister?"
He smirked. "Well, remember when you were holding a gun in front of my suite's door? When you are talking with Sandy?"
Naddie blushed. What could be more embarrassing than being heard talking about a guy's psychological disorder by the guy himself?
Marky continued, "And you said that you're making sure that Ronnie's not going to have sex with me."
She wanted to run away but her knees were shaking. He chuckled when he saw her pale face.
"It's because.." She was trying to find the words to say. "Because.."
"You're jealous," he winked.
"Ha. Ha. Stop annoying me, mister," she sneered.
A soothing music replaced the waltz music. If You Asked Me To by Celine Dion. That tune always made Naddie teary. Her heart was quite attached to that song. As she heard the musical introduction, her eyes landed on Marky's face. He looked back to her eyes. A flame seemed to grow inside them. A flame that could burn them in any minute. A flame that could be called love. Passion.
They smiled at the same time. Marky chuckled. He stood up and extended his hand to her.
"Maybe, I could stop annoying you and dance with you instead, shall we?"
She smiled and placed her hand on his hand. He held her hand tight as she stood up. His warm fingers were wrapped around hers. When they reached the crowd of dancing couples, Marky pulled her close to his body. Naddie placed her left hand on his nape while he held her right hand and placed it close to his left chest. Their feet moved slowly. She couldn't look straight in his eyes. There was a long silence as they danced.
But if you'll ask me to,
I just might give my heart,
And stay here in your arms forever..
"Naddie," he spoke under his breath.
"Hmm?" she said, still not looking in his eyes.
Marky pulled her closer and held her tighter. She rested her head upon his shoulder.
"I want to say something. I want to tell this long ago, but I have no guts."
Naddie closed her eyes. Her tears were beginning to fall, drop by drop.
"Naddie," he pushed her away to look in her eyes. She gently opened her eyes.
He gasped. "Why are you crying?"
"This song always.. " she sighed.
Marky shook his head. "Anyway, about what I am going to say.."
The song was already in it's climax and Don Martin was already taking the microphone. Marky leaned closer to Naddie. The song ended and Don Martin began to interrupt.
"A pleasant evening to everyone," he spoke in the microphone. Everybody automatically turned to look at the speaker. While Naddie was looking at his father, he muttered, "Dad really has a good timing."
"What?" Naddie heard his voice but she didn't comprehend what he said.
He released her from his arms. "I'm not saying anything."
His father spoke again, "Before we indulge ourselves with this party, I'll be making a big announcement."
There were looks of confusion, curiousity and excitement among the guests. The members of the Federal family who were present there didn't look that surprised. They knew that this announcement would be about the heir of Bella Amor resort.
"I proudly turn over the management of Bella Amor resort," his father announced, "to my son, Mark Andres Federal!"
That shook the ground where Marky was standing. He didn't want to manage this resort, for God's sake! He didn't want to follow the footsteps of the man that he hated, his father's footsteps.
He wanted to walk out but Naddie held his hand tightly. They looked at each other's eyes.
"Congratulations, Marky," she smiled.
He scoffed. "Congratulations? I don't want this, Naddie."
He was about to go when Naddie held him tight and pulled him back to her. "Take it, Marky. I'm here to support you."
"But Naddie..."
"Bella Amor have been waiting for you, Marky. You are destined to own Bella Amor."
"I don't care about the millions I'll get in this resort."
"But.. You love this resort, don't you? This is where.."
"...where I wore the hat of shame. This resort is where I harrassed you, tried to rape you. This is where my father hated me and decided to send me to Germany. I don't know why I loved this hell!"
Everybody were already looking at them. Marky walked towards his father's side, took the microphone and said, "I'm not accepting the inheritance."
That surprised everybody. Mark dropped the microphone and left the place.
CHAPTER SIXTEEN
ONE FATEFUL NIGHT
Marky went to his suite. He sat grumpily on the sofa and looked around. He should be preparing for his dinner date with Ronnie. This was going to be the night of revelation. He would tell her that he's satyriatic and he would see if Ronnie could accept it.
He quickly prepared a candle light dinner and went to the balcony to look at the ocean. What a very cold night.
Ismael wanted to follow Marky but his mother stopped him.
"Give him some time to think by himself, Ismael," Gracia told her son.
He sighed. "Yes, mother."
The party continued and Marky's rejection to accept the Bella Amor resort was forgotten that fast. It usually happen when people had so much fun. The clock struck 7:30 P.M. and Ismael received a phone call from his client in his construction firm. He quickly answered the call outside the ballroom.
He sighed. "I told you that we'll talk about this in my office."
"This is urgent," the voice in the phone said, "Tell me how much this transaction would cost me."
Ismael rolled his eyes. "I'll get back to you later, I'll go to my suite and start my computation in my laptop."
He turned off the phone and quickly returned to his suite. He saw Marky, standing beside the door of his suite.
"Mark," he called. His brother looked at him seriously.
"That was kind of.. embarrassing, man."
"Dad deserves it," he scoffed.
Ismael nodded. "Why are you standing there?"
"Waiting for someone."
"Naddie?"
He shook his head. "Someone else."
"Who?"
"One of the candidates for Mrs. Ismael Federal," he grinned.
Ismael shook his head. "Not again, you're still enthusiastic with that idea, Marky?"
"Well, anything for my brother." Marky could still remember his promise to Ismael. He would find the right woman for him. The woman who could accept Ismael for who he was but at the same time, the woman who could change Ismael.
Ismael shook his head, "I'm going inside my suite."
Ronnie was walking through the hallway, trying to find suite 25. Marky's suite. She was wearing a red dress that reached her knees and a curly hairstyle. These past few days, thoughts of Marky wasn't making her that excited at all. What occupied her mind was Ismael and that day when he greeted her. He wanted to be her friend but she haven't yet seen him today. She missed him.
The hallway on the fifth floor was sort of dark. She stopped by suite 25. Is it 25? 26? She shrugged her shoulders and decided to press the doorbell button. No one opened the door for her. It might be a little rude but she opened the door and walked inside the dark suite.
"Hello? Anyone in here?" she spoke. The room was cold.
She kept on searching for Marky inside the suite, until she reached the bedroom. She saw a man sitting in the corner of his bed, embracing himself. She could see the bright spark in his brown eyes.
"Ma--"
"Get out of here!" he growled.
She was taken aback for a second. What was happening to him?
"You invited me here and now you want me to go away?"
"I invited you?" He said questionably. "I didn't!"
"What? What am I here for then?"
"Please, go away! Right now! Leave before I did something that you won't like!" That was a threat.
Ronnie gulped. She was a liberated woman now and she wouldn't let this man shake her knees.
She climbed to his bed to pull his collar. "Listen, mister. I am a woman here and I gain some respect. Whatever you are up to, stop this shit and I don't want to see--"
His kiss interrupted her. That was kind of torrid. He kissed as if he was hungry for it. Ronnie gave all her strength to push him away but she couldn't beat him. He got her tied to his bed, his body atop of hers. In a matter of time, Ronnie felt herself responding to his kisses.
When they got undressed, everything started to happen.
Naddie walked slowly by the seashore.
Should I talk to him? What should I do?
She sighed and decided to go to Marky's suite. She stopped in front of Marky's door. Before she pushed the doorbell, she saw that the door of Ismael's suite was open. She heard a faint sound of groans and moans. Naddie felt chilly as she pulled the door and closed it.
Now, here she was, facing Marky's door. She pushed the doorbell. The door opened and revealed a shocked Marky.
"Marky," she said.
He forced a smile. "The chaperone's here but the date is.." He looked at his wristwatch. "Ronnie's 15 minutes late already."
"She's not yet in there?" she asked.
"Yeah. Please, come in."
Naddie shook her head. "I'm not staying for long. I just came here.."
"To confront me about what I did at the party, I assume?"
"You don't have to bring back the past, Marky. Move on. Look at you father, you hate him but he still entrusted the Bella Amor resort to you."
Marky pulled her inside his suite. He locked the door. "Take a seat," he ordered. Naddie sat on the sofa.
"Listen Naddie," he started as he sat beside her, "How would you feel, if you are suffering about things that you are not supposed to be suffering at?"
"Like.. an innocent who was sent to jail?"
He nodded.
"I'll feel so bad."
"And how if, you claimed a crime as your own to protect someone you love. Would you still feel bad about it?"
"I.. I don't know."
"And how if, the consequences goes like.. your father hated you for that crime and he couldn't accept you anymore?"
"Look, Marky. Your father loves you. He just can't accept your disorder but.."
"It hurts Naddie. I'm not really satyriatic but everything hurts me. I don't know if I should regret pretending that I'm satyriatic..."
Naddie's eyes widened. Shock was written in her eyes. "Y-You are not satyriatic?"
CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
CONFESSION
They remained staring at each other's eyes. Marky gulped. Problem one: He was caught. The truth spilled before Naddie like a thousand of jelly beans that he accidentally dropped from it's container. Problem two: He had no alibi. Problem three: How to keep her mouth shut about this.
Naddie shook his shoulders. "Tell me the truth! You are not satyriatic? Why? How?"
He sighed. "That's it, what you heard is what you get."
"No, I've got so many questions. Explain everything, I don't get it!"
He pulled her close to grant her a warm kiss on her lips. How Naddie quickly returned those kisses. Love had eaten her confusion. Great. Now they were getting too far. Too far? Yeah, too far finally arrived when they landed on Marky's king-sized bed.
Naddie opened her eyes. It wasn't only her soring body that gave her pain but also the blinding sunlight that passed through Marky's window. She muttered a lot of ouch and aw as she tried to move. The white blanket slid through her soft skin as she sat up, revealing her upper limbs. She gasped to find herself naked. She could have screamed and she did when she saw Marky standing by the opened french doors of his balcony, grinning.
She quickly pulled up the blanket to cover herself. Marky walked slowly, closer to her. He pasted that unremovable grin.
"Cut it out!" she said, blushing.
"Why are you covering yourself? I saw that already," he replied as he stopped in front of her.
Naddie did't know what exactly happened. She just came to his suite last night to confront him about what he did to his father and she found out that he wasn't satyriatic? She gasped. How could she ever be sure that he wasn't satyriatic? How if he was fooling her to make her feel assured that he won't take her to his bed and.. She felt like her nose would bleed. That was a very intimate night! But how if Marky only intended to use her as a sexual tool for that night? She felt like she wanted to die now.
She popped out from her thoughts when Marky began to pull down her blanket. She tried to pull it up.
"C'mon, I just want to see my wonderland again," he smirked. How Naddie wanted to kick this perverted man! Where to kick? Anywhere her feet would hit him. So, her body was now called wonderland and Marky's the very first tourist. Great. This satyriatic guy fooled her.
"Where's my clothes?" she growled that surprised him. But Marky remained cool and calm. He stepped back a little.
"Where?" she asked again.
Marky glanced at the floor and looked back to her. "On the floor, baby."
That was only when she noticed his attire. His lower limbs were covered by a white bath towel and the rest was naked before her eyes. Her eyes explored his hunk chest. She turned her head before her thoughts get too far.
Naddie quickly stood up to get her clothes and the devil stepped on the side of the blanket. It automatically dropped on the floor.
They gasped and screamed when they saw each other. They covered themselves with the blanket.
"Who are you?" Ismael asked her, still shocked.
Ronnie looked like she was about to cry. "You're not.. Oh, God!"
"Ronnie?" He recognized her at last.
"Why.. Why.." She was speechless. This guy was not Marky!
He saw the tears in her eyes. He held her shoulder but she shrugged his hand away. "I'm sorry, it's my fault.. I.. I didn't listen to you," she sobbed.
Ismael sighed. "I should have managed to control myself much better."
Ronnie turned to look at his brown eyes. "Let's just forget this," she smiled.
He forced himself to smile back. How could he ever forget what happened? That question remained in his mind.
"I didn't intend to do that, Ronnie. I am satyriatic.."
She looked at him with confusion. "Satyriatic?"
"Well, a psychological disorder. Being addicted over sex. I've been trying to control this for years," he stopped talking. Why was he saying these things to her? He already said it anyway.
She stood up with the blanket covering her body. "That explains why you are an expert in.. bed."
He looked at her. "I wasn't the first guy who had.."
She quickly shook her head. "You are the first one. I just said that because, you know what to do when you're in bed."
What else could be more embarrassing than talking about sex with a girl you accidentally and unintentionally.. you know? She went to the bathroom to wear her clothes. When Ronnie went out, Ismael was also dressed up. Without his nerdy glasses, he looked as handsome as ever. He had a little resemblance with Marky. Very little.
"Maybe, I should take you to your.."
"No," she interrupted, "I can go on my own."
Ismael nodded. "I think you're disgusted at me, right?"
Ronnie smiled sincerely. There was a warmth in her heart when she saw that look in his eyes. "You're not disgusting. How could you say that?"
"I'm satyriatic. Imagine, I've been with a lot of different girls," he didn't notice that she was already standing close to him.
She patted his cheek. "It's all in your head, hm?"
He couldn't stop to lean down and kiss her lips gently. Ronnie kissed back and suddenly, pulled away.
"No, this is wrong," she scolded herself that he could hear clearly.
"Ronnie.. What's.. What's wrong?"
She looked up to him. "I'm in love with someone else, Ismael." He hand touched her lips. "Oh, why did I kissed back?"
Ismael looked at her. He found what he and Marky were looking for. Ronnie said goodbye and quickly left his suite.
