The girl had short brown hair, that was cut in a longer bob, and was down. A hidden blue headband that had a huge peacock feather bunch in it held her hair out of her face, and matched her whole outfit. A white dress, that had straps so small they almost weren’t there pressed against her. The top was so low, you could almost see the top of the bra that she wore. The dress stopped after a few inches, turning into a skirt, that was a creamy white and had peacock feathers all over it. Huge pearl drop earrings and a matching necklace accompanied the dress, with a peacock bracelet and rings on her ring fingers. The look was completed with a pair of black stilettos, that were absolutely gorgeous.
Normally, matching so many peacock things would look terrible, but this girl could totally pull it off. The worst part, she wasn't wearing makeup, and still looked good. Worst yet, she seemed to be flirting with Tyler, and he didn't seem to care.
I looked around nervously, then said “uh, can you call your dad to pick us up? I kinda have to go home. I uh, forgot to uh, do some things.”
Jenna sceptically looked at me, but whipped out her phone.
“Hello? Uh yeah dad, its Jenna. Do you think you could pick us up now? Macey doesn’t feel so good.” She listened for a minute, then said “alright, meet us in the front entrance.” She snapped her phone shut, then said “He will be here in like fifteen minutes.” I nodded, then pulled her away, not giving Tyler and the mysterious girl another look.
I sighed as I watched Jenna and her dad go inside. They had dropped me off, then went to their house. I was standing on the front walk, watching nothing. I finally decided what to do. Pulling my shoes off and holding them so they wouldn't get stuck in the grass, I headed across the street to the park. It wasn't a playground park, just a large green area with a football field, benches, trees, and hammocks. I then sat beside a tree, and cried my heart out.
About an hour later, I heard the sound of flip-flops on the pavement. Turning around to peek around the tree, I found myself looking at the girl Tyler had been with earlier. She had changed, and was now wearing a cream tank-top, a indigo mesh like skirt, white flip-flops, and a white hat that had a indigo ribbon on it. Not wanting her to see me, I looked around, but didn't see anywhere to hide. Giving one last look at the girl who was definitely headed my way, I did the one thing I could think of. Lodging my shoes and purse in a crook of the tree, I put my hands up and grasped two branches. Pulling myself up, wincing at the scrapes and bruises I was getting, I stood on a branch, mentally thinking to remind myself to use extra lotion tonight. Taking a deep breath, I climbed up more, until I was three branches higher, and slightly hidden by the leaves. Reaching down, I grabbed my shoes and purse, then pulled them into my lap. A minute later, the girl walked up and sat down on the hammock connected to my tree and a neighboring tree. She pulled out her phone (a crappy looking silver Mortola), and texted someone. Then leaning back, she kicked off her flip flops and curled her feet underneath her. Swinging peacefully, she sat there for a good fifteen minutes. I just sat on my branch rocking back and forth, praying she wouldn't see me, and that she would leave. But of course, my lucky stars decided not to be on my side today. Because who else, but Tyler, walked up a few minutes later. The girl stood up and walked over to greet him. “Tyler!”
She spoke with a soft voice, but there was something menacing about it. Looking at my house for a second, Tyler leaned in. What he did next made me gasp. Because, he leaned in, and kissed her. My jaw dropped as her arms went around his neck and his went around her waist. He played with the bottom of her shirt for a minute, slightly pushing it up. She laughed, then moved her head so his lips were at her neck. She finally pulled him away, to a hammock that was down the way, so they weren’t in front of me.
Tears streaming down my face, I dropped my shoes and purse on the ground, then hopped down myself. Picking up my stuff, I ran out of the park, and to my house, where I ran up to my bedroom, and cried even more.
The next day I stayed home from school, even though it was Monday. That day, a ton of stuff happened.
First, my mom went to the doctor, and learned we were having girls. Second, I learned that some aunt and uncle of mine were just killed in a car crash, leaving their two girls parent-less, so my mom had offered to take them in, so I was going to have two new sisters.
Third, my cheer-leading outfit arrived in the mail. And fourth, the worst of all, I learned that my school, to save gas, had decided to ban car-riders, so everyone now had to ride the bus or walk. When I learned that, I practically screamed, but managed to compose myself. Instead, I grabbed my jacket and purse and walked out to the car. We were going to go pick up my cousins.
When we got to the airport, my mom led me over to the gate for the plane that they were arriving off of. A bunch of people came off, and then my cousins. One looked to be about my age, the other looked to be about five or six. They both had barbie blond hair, and wore traveling outfits- navy pleated skirts, white collared shirts with a red tie under navy jackets, white knee highs, and black buckle Mary Janes. The older girl grabbed the little one's hand, then my mom ran over to them.
“Oh Mary! Carrie! How big you are! Look at you two!” I snickered into my palm about their rhyming names, but then my mom motioned me over. I sighed, but walked over. My mom pulled us all out of the way of some big man in a suit, then introduced us.
“Girls, this is Macey, your cousin.” she patted them on their backs, then turned to me. “Macey, this is Mary,” the oldest curtsied. “And this is Carrie.” The youngest did a sort of knee wobble, and I wondered “are they from England?”
Turns out I was far from the truth, they were actually from Florida, they had just been brought up in a more formal way.
Later that day, as I was listening to the sound of my cousins and my mom laughing as they painted their new rooms, I tried on my cheer-leading outfit. It was designed basically completely after Glee's cheerios outfits, so it was adorable. Red and whit pleated flare skirts, that had built in underwear, the tank-tops with our names on them, the baggy jackets, with our school's logo on the back, the shoes. I sighed as I looked at how much I looked like Quinn from Glee. My blond hair, pulled into a ponytail, with two red and white bows. I rolled my eyes, and yanked the outfit off. I just wasn't into cheer spirit. Putting the outfit back on it's hanger, I slid on my yellow summery dress. Creeping down the hall, I headed to where Mary and Carrie's new rooms were. Mary hadn’t wanted to paint hers, as it was my old room so it was already pink. She had set up all of her pictures on the nightstand, and I couldn't help but look at them. Most of them were of her and friends, at some camp. I grimaced as I looked at the terrible outfits. One picture showed Mary in a blue tank-top and shorts hugging a girl wearing a tye-dye (omg eww) shirt, and shorts. Yet another showed her being dragged around on the grass by a girl wearing some pale green oversized uber ugly shirt and short combination, that should be on What Not To Wear. Mary wore a striped shirt with hot pink shorts, but she looked like she was having a great time. I ran my fingers along her stuff then thought of Tyler. My mind wandered and I began to sing.
“Do you ever feel like a plastic bag
Drifting through the wind
Wanting to start again”
I put my hands behind my back and dragged my feet on the carpet as I sung. Going out into the hallway, I sang louder, walking to the door leading out to the balcony. I opened the door, and the cool breeze blew my hair back, making me look like an angel with my yellow dress.
“You just gotta ignite the light
And let it shine
Just own the night
Like the Fourth of July”
I ran my hands along the balcony then sat down. Resting my arms along the railing, and my head on my arms, I poured my soul into that song.
“You don't have to feel like a waste of space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow”
I raised my voice as memories from Tyler and mine's short time together came rushing into my mind.
The first time I saw him at the mall, Lucy's jealous expression, me giving him my number.
Us at Pink-berry, laughing over the fat guy working at the counter.
The first time he found out that I knew his sister.
The voice of him over the phone.
Us at Carter's party.
Then finally, the last one, him kissing the other girl at the park. I badly wanted to call Kaylie and find out who the girl was, but I didn't dare. I finished up the song, and was surprised to hear clapping behind me. I spun around, and saw Carrie, who I guess was taking a break from painting. She looked even more like an angel then I did, as she was innocently dressed in white. A white button down blouse, knee length tight white skirt, and white ballet flats. A white headband held back her yellowish blond hair, and she had cherry chap-stick on. She looked way older then she was really, and I instantly decided I liked her. She stood up clapping, and blushing, I took a small bow.
“You were wonderful miss.”
I laughed. “Thanks Carrie. And you do know you don't have to call me miss?” Ever since she had got here, her and her sister had called me miss.
“Sorry miss. I'm just used to it miss.” she was the one who blushed this time, and I laughed nervously. I was thankful when my mom called her in to help them put up something. She slightly curtsied to me, then scurried back in. I stared after her, then sunk into a white chaise that was on the balcony. I tilted my head back, and closed my eyes. I was interrupted by another text. I sighed, then checked my phone. Four missed calls and sixteen missed text messages. I groaned, threw my phone down, and headed to my room. Slipping off my dress, I slipped into a gray tank-top and a pair of hot pink jean shorts. Slipping on a pair of black converse with pink laces, I grabbed my purse and headed out. On the way I grabbed my phone, then ran downstairs.
I held the monster shirt up to me, and looked at my reflection. I shuddered at the sight of a girl wearing purple pajamas that had polka dots on them, tucked into a pair of blue Fuggs, then turned my attention back to the shirt. Everyone at school had recently started wearing these monster shirts, so of course I had to get one. I put the one I was holding down, then held it up in a size smaller. Nodding and then smiling to myself, I picked up the shirt in four different colors, then headed to checkout. On the way I passed a case with sparkly socks, so I grabbed a pair, then went and checked out. I was in hot Topic, the slightly goth teen store that everyone shopped at. I payed for my stuff, then walked out, blending in with the rest of the mall shoppers. Heading over to Oreo's, I got a huge black and white cookie, then sat down and popped a buck into the massage chairs. Eating my cookie and looking around, I sighed as I looked at all of the people who looked so happy, like they didn't have any problems in the world. Standing up and throwing my wrapper away, I brushed my hands off, then headed to Kitson. Standing in the doorway I peaked into the store to see if Tyler or the girl were in there. Neither were, so I walked in. I went over to the shoes section, looking for a pair of gold shoes. Not finding one I sighed, but looking around one last time got up and walked to the Coach store.
“Perfect!” I exclaimed, looking at the millions of pairs of gold coach shoes that lined the walls. Picking out two pairs, I walked around the store, looking at stuff. In addition to the shoes, I got a purse that was white with the Coach sign on it, six scarves, and a key-chain for my purse. Checking out, I put my stuff on the counter. My eyes actually widened in surprise at the total ($1684.20). I knew Coach stuff was expensive, but I didn't think it was that bad. I shrugged then grabbed my bags, and walked out.
The next morning, my mom decided I had to go to school. Mary and Carrie were starting school next week, so my mom said she wanted to take them around town, but she didn't need me around, so I had to go back to school. I smiled as I slipped into a pair of white splatter-paint sweatpants, and a matching turquoise jacket hoodie. A hot pink cami was under my hoodie, my white messenger bag backpack and purse were packed and ready to go, and my cheer-leading outfit was in it's bag waiting. Sitting down at my vanity, I brushed my hair, and then straightened it. Pulling it into a side pony, I slipped a white ribbon around the ponytail holder, then curled the bottoms of my hair. Standing up, I slipped my phone into my pink Ella Moss purse. I slid on a pair of blue flip flops, and slipped a coat of lip gloss on, till my lips shone. I applied my makeup hastily, then stood up and headed downstairs.
I tucked my feet under my chair and sighing, picked up my fork. Nudging the salad that was on my plate, I put the fork back down and looked around. Girls surrounded me at the lunch table. Like every school, even when you are dating someone, you don't sit with someone of the opposite sex. So our lunch table was segregated into a few sections. First, at the end was the boys table. The losers sat on the left side of the table, cool kids on the right. Skip two seats and you come to the girls, which is just wherever you want to sit. Skip four seats and you come to another group of girls, that has four girls in it. That would be the uncool group. Skip another seat and there is the group of boys, some of which are cool, some not, there just wasn't any open seats down at the end. Then there is the silent lunch table, and then finally, the teacher table.
Our group's table was a mess as always. Drinks were spilled, phones were out, chip bags were open and crumbs were everywhere. No-one cared though, which is what I loved. I picked up a grape and popped it into my mouth, then took a swig of water. Putting the bottle down, I picked up my cell which was vibrating. Without looking at who it was, I hit the end button. Lately, I had not been answering any of my calls or texts, and had not been talking much. My friends knew there was something wrong with me, they just ignored it, knowing better. A whistle blew, and we all sighed, but stood up and began cleaning up our mess. Grabbing my Evian water bottle and protein bar, I slipped them into my purse, then stood up. Taking a last bite of tofu burger, I headed toward the trash line. Dumping my trey, I brushed my hands off then went and got in line. Standing next to Ashley and Cassidy who were both on the squad, I listened to their conversation about how they thought the coach was going to put us for the pryamid. I already knew I was going to be on one of the top rows, as I was super light, and that Ashley was going to probably be on the very bottom or second to bottom row as she was mainly muscle. Not saying anything though, I followed them out into the hallway, and then into the bathroom. Finding a mirror that wasn't crowded, or smelling of smoke, I pulled my hair out of it's ponytail. Brushing it down, flipping it, then pulling it back up, I pulled out my curler and plugged it in. our school's bathrooms have outlets in them, as we take pride in looking well. Re-curling my hair, I turned it off, then walked out.
Later that day at the mall, I walked with Clara, Makenzie, and Jenna into K's Boutique. The days before and after games, the team players had to dress up, and we had a game in three days.
We all instantly headed over to the new racks, and began flipping through them. Mackenzie pulled out a purpleish dress, that had a layer of black almost invisible mesh over the whole thing. Black polka dots were all over the whole thing. She held it out. "What do you think?" We all studied it.
"Rate it, one out of ten." She said.
I replied instantly. "I give it a seven. It is kind plain."
Makenzie rolled her eyes. "Hello? Have you forgottn who I am? I soo don't dress up that fancy."
"Well, then in that case, it is perfect!"
"I agree. It is absolutely perfect for you." Clara said. She gave me a meaningful glance. "It will go good with your eye color."
Everyone chimed in. "Yeah, its perfect for you!"
I blushed, then walked over to a different rack.
An hour later we all had perfect outfits. Mackenzie had the purple dress, and had matched it with a pair of black sandal heels with straps, and a small black purse. Clara had a black one shoulder dress, that went down to her knees. She was going to put it over a thin white tank-top dress, with a white purse and a pair of white ballet flats. Jenna had gotten a pink (of course) strapless dress that had tiny sequins all over it. She decided to wear a pair of ballet shoes with it, and also paired it with a small white purse. Then there was the dress I picked out, which everyone agreed was the best. An all red dress, except for the white polka dots on the bottom and diamonds on the top, was going with a pair of black dress flip flops. I felt better when I matched it with a giant black Guchi purse and everyone said they loved it.
We went and check out, then left.
The next morning was a teacher workday, so I slept in until (:30. Normally I go much longer, but I was awakened by a beep from my phone. I looked at the text that was from jenna.
"Look outside"
It was that simple, and normally Jenna doesn' text that short, so I knew she was up to something. Hurridly getting out of bed I hurried over to my giant bay window that led out to my balcony. Opening the doors and going out onto my balcony, I rubbed my arms. It was getting colder these days, and the mornings were especially chilly. One glance was all that I needed.
Running inside, I slipped on a pair of white keds and ran as fast as I could to Jenna's house. Not bothering to knock, I ran into her house and up to her room. She looked up when I came in, then jokingly said "what? Did you fall asleep in your cheerleading outfit?" I knew she was reffering to my pajamas- a red tanktop, white Abercrombie sport shorts, red knee highs with white edged, and then my white keds. I ignored her though, and pointed outside.
"What the hell?"
She joined me. "Yeah, I know."
We were looking out at the park, were we saw Tyler and the girl curled up on a hammock, peacefully sleeping. I groaned, and sat down heavelly on Jenna's bed. She joined me. "Do you know who she is?"
I sighed, but answered.
"Yeah, actually I have know about this for a few days now, I just did't say anything."
Jenna gasped and turned to face me. "Why didn't you tell us? Do you know who the girl is?"
I shook my head and sighed, then lowered my head. I could feel my cheeks turning red for some reason, and I blushed even more. I could feel Jenna watching me.
